When it comes to chemotherapy protocol options for dogs with lymphoma, the good news is that there are lots of options.
But that can also be overwhelming and confusing.
In part 1 of this 2 part series Dr Sue will break down all the chemotherapy protocols for you. She covers:
✔️ the goal of chemotherapy when treating lymphoma
✔️how well tolerated chemotherapy is in dogs (different than people)
✔️all about the CHOP multi-agent chemotherapy protocol - this the best protocol and she explains why
✔️ why it matters if your dog has B or T-cell lymphoma and how that may change the chemotherapy protocol choice
✔️ expected response rates, survival times, and remission rates
✔️ some other therapies we use for lymphoma dogs including radiation, bone marrow transplants, and immunotherapy
✔️ alternative protocols if you decide not to do the CHOP protocol & 🔜 more on those options in part 2

Man I wish more people viewed your vids. You have such great information and give excellent advice. I find it so educational. My little girl Haley was diagnosed with T-cell Lymphoma in April. She started on the MOPP Protocol with the goal being to get her a bone marrow transplant at NCSU in Raleigh, North Carolina. She went into remission and then had a relapse. She then went on CCNU and went into remission and held it. Before she went down for her bmt she did CCNU then Elspar the following week and high dose Cytoxan the third week. She had one week off then started the process in N. Carolina. She was staged and had absolutely no camcer found in her body, spleen was normal, no evidence of disease in lymph nodes, etc. We were ecstatic. She's at NCSU right now recovering from the bone marrow transplant. She was in isolation for almost a week bc her neutrophils were at O, which is normal. She's doing amazingly well. She's the 91st dog they've done and she's recovering better than any others. The one hiccup was a 20 second seizure coming out of anesthesia after her first dose of full body radiation. She responded to meds immediately. The next day they gave her anti-seizure meds with the anesthesia and she did great.

I am so glad Haley is doing well. I have been a huge fan of Dr Suter and his bone marrow transplant program since he started it. It is a great option for the right case, but unfortunately as you know requires travel to one fo the few centers in the US that do it and is quite expensive. But I am so happy Haley is recovering in isolation and I know you will be so excited once her neutrophils rebound and she can go home. Keep me updated, and please subscribe too! :)

I love how energetic and passionate you are about this. But the big elephant in the room is the financial aspect of this. What do you say to someone who wants more than anything to give their dog treatment, but would be financially ruined if they did? Let alone the potential variables of how they'd respond and potential relapses?

i think it is just a fact of life that not everyone can or even will. i think it is a personal decision. i watched a good video that dr. sue did about when it's time to euthanize, and the specialists touched on 'financial budget' being one budget to consider, as far as when it's time. my mom's dog likely has lymphoma, and she cannot afford chemotherapy, as heartbreaking as it is to think of losing oreo...especially since she lost another dog a few months ago, and my dad died 2 years ago. a lot of recent loss.

Hi Dr. Sue. Great videos, they have been great resources. Do you have any videos on radiation therapy? My kitty was diagnosed with Hodgkins like lymphoma and surgically removing the masses is not an option.

Wow our vet said they don’t change the thereapy if it’s B or T they said they treat them the same.. therefore we elected not to see if it was B or T.. we just started CHOP could you possibly elaborate on the difference in treatment.

HI. DrSue, I have an 8 years ago cat, about a month ago there was a growth on her right ear near the head. I’m attach is picture of it. On July 7, we told Mitt to the Vet and their told blood test. The tests came back negation. The Vet wants to remove the ear, but I was scare the lymphoma would spread all over. Plus I don‘t have $600.00 or $700.00 spend on it. As you can see the pictures I have cerebral Palsy and as a 68 years ago on a fix income. I wonder if you have any ideal on how long she have just by picture? I watch the clip on pills for dogs, have you come up with a pills for the cats. The picture with Mitt on my lap, after two cats in twenty-two years it was the first I hold one of cat in my wheelchair…..

I was immediately thinking about euthanasia before watching you videos. Even the vets I have talk to are skeptic about chemo... How do lymphoma in the small bowel and liver do with chemo? They told me stage 2-3?

Seriously, mate look into Black Salve, Bloodroot, Colloidal Silver, Black Seed Oil.... your dog will die with these poisons, they can only prolong life, not cure
