My bully was just like that (color-wise), and as much a happy fellow as Alvin is...although he was 37 kg (80+ lb). A real giant for the breed. He passed away a couple of years ago, and miss him so much. Bullies are very unique kind of dogs, and only people fortunate enough to have shared their path in life with them know how special their souls are. To people unknown of this race, I used to describe them like this: "A bodybuilder with a child spirit and a clown's heart".😁😁
Personally I would advise against putting your face in the face of an unfamiliar dog (seen the bite happen a few times from that). Bravo on Alvin! Beautiful, well built and happy boy, and SO smart!👍🏻

Don't be fooled by his calm demeanor. I've owned both mini and standard Bull Terriers. That situation did not cue him to a threat and he responded appropriately. My dogs were always the same way. I accidently surprised them one day and they responded quite differently until they recognized me. Alvin has the heart of a lion but hopefully you never have to see it. What a gorgeous specimen he is. Makes me miss mine.
Ive had dogs my whole life and ive always said a dog is just an extension of your personality. Thats why some dogs are awesome like this little dude, and some dogs are absolute assholes.
Yes a beautiful dog & a terrific breed, it`s always a privilage to see these dogs out & about, sadly it`s on rare occasions that I see them but when I do it makes my day!
Och! What a cutie 😍😍 And yes, I agree with some of the comments below that the bully breeds take a lot of cues from their humans (we're currently living with our third bulldog/bull terrier from the shelter, so yes, I do know a bit about these breeds). But without any warning cues, this is such a typical reaction for a bull terrier - being friendly to any unknown and friendly human. Wow, I'm surprised he acted so friendly with the "stranger". Though he would have been a little aggressive at least initially. He's the product of love is what it is. He's a handsome dog. Love those goat heads these dogs have.
His instincts was useful. He sees something new bounds straight towards it and goes for the throat and begging to engage in play. When he’s repelled by the boy he gets up and goes back a bit rougher. This is tenacity. The boy gets bit and changes the play a bit to something a bit less robust and the dog picks up the queue and plays a bit softer and descalates the meeting. If the boy was a bad’un and repelled the dog violently, the dogs bred instinct for the throat and tenacity would appear and an attack would begin. BullTerrier are bred not to feel pain and never to give up. Bad people are not bred this way. The dog is a very handsome and happy one and a useful companion.
I kind of sensed that too. Alvin went ahead and checked him out FIRST and his was a bit way more welcoming in a way because he was a bit nervous. After 100% sure, this human has no bad intention it calmed down more. He was going for the face and it's never a sign of being submissive. For bullies, they should be trained not jump on people or greet them with mouth.
This are perfect dogs. The trick is that you have to teach him how to control his behavior they just got overexcited for everything and everyone which is realy hard because they lost their judgement very fast and they can become dangerously overexcited execially with smaller kids... Once you learn them how to controll themselfs you are stuck with a perfect dog wich will surely gave his life for you.
This reminds me of my friends Staffy terrier. Super friendly and he loves his play bites too, so much so that he'll unintentionally get too rough with them if you amp him up. These are great dogs.
Alvin is beautiful what a happy boy he's happy because of you your a proper bully owner I have a standard white bully he's 10yrs now and still flys around all o Dr the place especially when he has a shower on Sundays he wakes us up so he can have it keep up good work

I am of the opinion that, no matter the breed, the process of making friends should be a gradual thing, face to face proximity in particular. Handsome dog.
Always be careful with your face. My mini bully Billie , 4 months of age now, is overexcited when she encounters strangers or even my own children! That is her nature. Always optimistic, full of energy, you have to cope with that and guide more the people the bully meets than the dog! 😎Grts from Belgium, Marc.
