I knew huskies would make the list lol. I have an 8 month old husky pup. She’s very sweet, very smart, and very stubborn. Luckily we knew what we were getting into and we’ve been putting in the training work since day 1. Some days she’s a perfect little angel, and then sometimes she like, “ Oh you want me to stay? Make me.” Follow through is key with her. You give her an inch, she’ll take a mile. But she’s still a really good pup. She LOVES to work and I’ve used that to build food drive. And to wear her out I taught her to run next to my bike. She’s shaping up into a model citizen, and she’s going to be an excellent canine companion.

Our dog is a Boarder Colie and Husky mix, and she is a handful. Always wants loves to play, lots of energy, very dramatic and strong-willed, so I completely understand everything said here.

Mine is a border/ Jack Russell mix. Extremely smart but willing to chill now that she is almost ten. Still keeps all critters out of her 1/2 acre woods yard and spends time moving our cats around, expending a ton of energy in the effort.

I took in a stray that the vet estimated to be a 1 year old collie/blue heeler mix. Holy shit he is difficult so far 😂 if i leave the house for 10 minutes it's a problem, he has so much energy even though Im walking him before work and going home twice a shift to walk him again and taking him on a long walk each night. Im still working out the timing on his bm's and trying to crate train hin and its taking over my life, I cant do anything for the holiday tomorrow cause I need to build a fence and keep working with him

I just got a long-haired Chihuaua pup, at 11 weeks old. He is now almost 15 weeks old and is almost completely potty-trained, and understands commands, and actually tells me when he wants to go to bed, in his little kennel with his little stuffed pig, that he cuddles at night. I always heard how hard it is to train Chi dogs, and well, that has not been my experience. It is my first tiny dog, and I am rather enjoying it.

The bigger problem is that people don’t even try to train them. They treat them like toys and not like dogs. You treat your Chihuahua like any other dog. Don’t put up with bad behavior. Socializing well. Etc. etc. and you will have a wonderful dog. Might still have a little attitude, but that’s OK.

I also have a Chihuahua I got from the pound. Very trainable and pleasant. Too many Chihuahua owners don’t recognize their ‘aggression’ as a combination of fear-based reactivity and very often, joint pain from being morbidly obese. They think it’s cute to have a snappy little butterball, and would be shocked to have someone tell them they are shamefully neglecting and often outright abusing these lovely little animals.

I had a friend who lived in an apartment and got one of the Border Collies. The dog developed extreme separation anxiety. I kept telling her that the dog needed more exercise and brain work and every time, she commented that they would go on long doggy hikes with a group she belonged to once a week and the dog was so good when in that group. Of course, the dog was! I kept trying to tell her you must give the dog that much exercise daily! I kept trying to drill it into her head that she had gotten a working dog that needed to be worked every day! Both mind and body needed to be worked every day. She just couldn't wrap her head around it and continued to complain about the dog's behavior and needing something to calm it down. We aren't friends anymore. I wish people would get dogs that fit their lifestyle and needs. Working dogs need to have a job! I have never once thought about getting one of these dogs. I might in the future as I am looking at buying a home/farm where I can have goats and sheep and horses plus, plus, plus. Then I will need a good herder and some guarding dogs. I will be researching what I need, I know I will need Guardian dogs for sure. This life is nothing new to me, I have lived on a 1000-acre ranch.

In my household, we have two rescues and one purebred. An Australian Cattle Dog, crossed with Border Collie, a Shepsky, who is our youngest, and a Malamute. It works well for us. The oldest, the Cattle Dog, herds the boys around and plays mother hen, keeping them out of trouble. She's also a tattle tale. But the boys love her, and look after her, especially in the yard.

I agree with you about border collies. We have two female Littermates less than two years old. They came from a working farm in Wisconsin, championship line, so the instincts are bred into them. We are 60, so keeping them exercised is basically our days. We love it But after 4 to 5 sessions to Frisbee throws a day, we’re tired, but we love them so much. We hired a professional trainer when we brought them home at eight weeks old and that got us on course of establishing who’s boss and keeping things sane in the house. Incredible breed, but I wouldn’t recommend to busy families. However when my son told me he wanted to get a puppy, I told him not to go to the border collie route until he was sure he could put in the time. He wound up getting an Australian mix rescue. Love your videos. I’ve learned so much.

I used to dog sit two senior border collies for a few years. Loved them to pieces, but even as senior dogs they were pretty full on. The only difference is that I just had to throw the ball for 20mins & then they would nap. Rinse & repeat about, oh 10+ times a day, starting at 6am on the dot 😂 thankfully the owners had put a lot of time & effort into working & training them. I think the oldest was a show dog for a time. They were mostly well-behaved but very demanding. I would never get one myself but they are amazing dogs

I know they weren’t on the list but in terms of suitable dogs for people, I really love the look of Springer Spaniels. When my Labrador died in January, I seriously looked into getting a springer but, after seeing a couple and how high energy they were, I decided against it as I was worried I couldn’t always meet their needs. It’s all well and good saying I will walk long distance daily but sometimes things happen. You can get ill, stuff can happen it home where you need to be there and not out in a field with a springer. I got a 6 year old Lab x who does need exercise but is as happy just chilling out. It’s all about getting the right dog for the circumstances.

My Australian Shepherd is a border collie type dog. Smart, stubborn, and restless. I’m retired and I took him as a 5 year old from people who tearfully gave him up. I have the time to work him vigorously twice a day on and off lead so I’ve been able to train the nipping, dog aggression, and chasing out of him but he’s still a challenge. I can see how this type of dog could be a nightmare for people who don’t have the time to dedicate to them. I like him a lot but would never have chosen this breed unless it was to help a dog in a bad situation.

My boy Aussie was a wild pup. He almost broke me. Almost. He's 4 now and my best friend. Damn fine dogs, but they are not for an inexperienced pet owner or for a couch potato. Mine forces me off my ass to socialize downtown, go hiking, and go swimming at the state park. If you don't socialize them and make sure they get enough mental and physical stimulation, the result borders on animal abuse.

I have a pet border collie mix, and I will say Without hesitation, he is NOT a good pet. Specially living in an apartment in the city. I’ve had a sprained knee this last month, live alone And hit a financial bump. He is going Bonkers cuz “I’m” still learning more advanced training and I haven’t been able to take him out for the Minimum two hours a day I normally did. Luckily his mix with Pomeranian means he’s got a pretty amiable personality that’s happy go lucky 9/10 but you can FEEL the energy buzzing off of him! For anybody wondering WHY I got him, I’m an experienced dog owner but all bully and mastif breeds. I was looking for a smaller version of the same when I came across his ad. Previous owner was allergic and giving him up after a week. I saw the breed mix, saw his picture and Knew he was more BC than Pom. Decided at least I knew I’d have to step things up and he’d be a challenge for me. I didn’t QUITE know but if there’s problems I try to figure out what I need to do and change, not blame him. After all, he’s perfect. I mean, look at that little face! And yes every three words I have to throw the ball for him.

I own a registered working border collie. She is a 3 years old pet and wonderfully sweet. I am retired and we keep ourselves busy!!! We compete in rally obedience and obedience., all over our province. We have training classes each week out of town. My back yard is also set up for daily training. We have done scent work, trick training and barn hunt. I did find barn hunt was a mistake due to her wanting to chase more squirrels so we stopped. Now with training she is now good not to chase them. I find if you give them and job and keep them mentally and physically busy/stimulated they are extremely wonderful dogs. I can see where a border collie could go terribly wrong if you treat them as a normal house pet. Most people I know get one not understanding the breed (big mistake) and they pick up unwanted behaviours and OCD tendencies and other bad behaviours. I also find the general population don’t understand the breed either. That can make it hard on the dog and owner. They are a wonderful breed IMO. IF you put in the life long work, time and commitment . You don’t get days off. You are outside rain, shine snow you name it. You also need to know their limits. For example my girl isn’t fond of kids, they move fast and are unpredictable. I avoid these situations. Now I am trying slowly to introduce her to older children but fully under my supervision. Not every dog likes kids or other dogs. I would highly suggest getting a backpack for your BC and make it clear to them when they are going to work. She is my first ever puppy and we hired a trainer at 10 weeks old. We didn’t want to make any errors in raising her. The trainer thought we were nuts lol. Now he calls me for advice on herding breeds lol.

I agree. You have to understand what instinctive behaviors a dog has. A dog bred to herd, or guard, or track will instinctively display those behaviors. How unfair to expect them to adapt to a completely unsuitable living environment. You really need to research a breed before making the decision to select that dog.

I rehomed her because I ended up with too many dogs after taking in a couple more abandon dogs and I had a lady that really wanted the Siberian Husky, who had also come to me after being abandoned. She has given her a wonderful home now and the Husky couldn't be more well taken care of. However I miss the Siberian Husky daily. If I could have found homes for all my dogs and only kept one, it would have been the Siberian Husky I kept. Everything said in the video was true!! What was NOT said is that despite their lack of caring about what you want and obedience, they can certainly win your heart, despite everything else. They certainly have personalities unlike other dogs, but once I understood how she thinks, I couldn't help but fall in love with her.

I grew up with 9 Caucasian Shepherds (my grandma had a huge farm) and this breed is the only one I will always go back to. I currently own two (one of them is a rescue). However, I totally agree that this breed is not for everyone. They can be very dangerous. Not all professionals can handle them. One of my Caucasian Shepherds (the rescue one) accepted me as his ultimate leader (obviously), but tried to "put pressure" on my family members (growling at them when I wasn't around etc.). It's a tough situation that happens a lot with this breed (again, I've always had this breed around and I know what to do and how to do it), but most (unexperienced) people wouldn't be able to handle it.

The thing is that some people don't understand, that there are breeds out there, which are still to this day not fit as a house pet. Every dog can go wrong if not trained and exercised correctly, but herding/herd guarding and hunting dogs(in this case specifically those bred for hunting solitary like a lot of terriers and e.g. the dachshund) and those who sadly were bred as fighting dogs especially can go wrong in so many bad ways.

Why is it always the case that someone who really just wants a family pet has to muck it all up and buy a working breed? My godmather’s family had a Caucasian Shepherd. They had to close the dog in a room when they had visitors, because… well he would try to kill them. Once he attacked my godmother and to this day she has a giant scar on her shoulder. They rehomed the dog after that. CS are super popular in Russian villages as guard dogs. They use them at farms, factories, prisons etc. No one would mess with them

I am also a Dog Trainer and I dislike working with Jack Russell Terriers as they are usually in the wrong hands or wrong environment, not getting the stimulation or exercise they require. I do like the English Bull Terrier, having owned and trained several of them. But unless they are puppies I do not like working with them once they teen age or older when people bring them to me. Usually they have been raised as fur babies and have a long list of issues, like anxiety, and aggression being the biggest (towards people and other dogs). I recently worked with one and the owners did not follow my instructions and the poor dog had to be euthanized due to their negligence. I think in general all Terrier type dogs are on my list of "I do not enjoy working the with", even the Terrier mixes like Bull & Terrier types.

@@radkajanotova4895 in pretty much all countries a minority train their dogs properly. but I grant that bigger dogs are more often teained than the tiny ones which simply do as they please and are super reactive here. And whoever chooses to take a wolf hybrid, border collie or Husky or several other breeds in the city center of Prague or any other big city for that matter clearly knows nothing about dogs. too many choose their dog mainly based on what is fashionable. besides the fact that wolf hybrids are illegal in many countries for a good reason.

Im the dog trainer who loves the guard dog types. I own them exclusively. Are they big, dangerous dogs? Very much yes. Do they need the right home to he successful? Also yes. Are they hard to train? Sometimes yes. But they are also amazingly intelligent and empathetic dogs who can and will learn to be model citizens in the right hands. A lot of them fail because they never got both sides of training. They either got too much socialization and were never allowed to express their guarding tendencies where it is appropriate (i.e. the back yard or the house when owner isnt home) or they didn't get socialized and were allowed to express their guarding tendencies to the fullest and never got actually corrected when they were in a situation that they shouldn't (i.e. guarding the humans while off property, agressing at kids or old people or accepted visitors, etc.) They are at their best with their families and allowed to express some guarding. Love these big, squishy, fluffy critters but i wouldnt recommend them for most

Our BC is'nt a nipper, always been fine with nieces/nephews, she likes the dogs she likes, if she's unsure or not a fan of a barky dog she'll always go out of her way to walk round them, she's rarely on a lead and has impecable recall, ignores deer and rabbits but she does have a thing about cats and Squirrels (But can be called back/away from them) It took some training from us but she's well worth it. We've had Labradors, Staffies, Rotties, and a few other breeds between us over the years but we both (Almost unconsciously) agreed that she is our soul dog. But we'd also agree that the breed isn't an easy "Pet" she gets at least 2 1/2 hours of walks a day and other enrichment (sent work, brain games etc) to keep her mind active, definatly a steep learning curve if you are used to Lab's etc, but well worth the effort. Cheers

I have a very well behaved deaf working line border collie. She is at her most relaxed after a hard session of training complex signals for her to act on. By complex I mean training her to work out how signal order and which hand was used should affect her behavior. I think the problems with most border collies stem from irresponsible owners who can't/won't satisfy their needs for exercise and challenging mental stimulation. You can't just take a border collie for a walk on a leash and expect them to relax.

@gameoftros4875 6 дней назад
I have to be honest. I did pause the video to comment on the Bordercollie. As much as I love mine 1.5 year old BC. I sure do struggle with some things. Like, I have to keep a very close eye on her, even tho people give me lots compliments on how well he listen at me, I always respond with. "Well... I put 3 hours+ training/playing/walking with her EVERY day. I'm still not sure that I please her needs." So.... . Many videos on YT say that they are Great dogs, That is correct, but... Give them what they need. Cause even with the 3+ hours I aim for to give her what she needs, she sure still wants to chase cars, kids and is triggerd by many things. and only if I give her the brain and play time she will be waaaay less "crazy". She's not the biggert nipper or want to bite. Yet I say "no" to kids if they want to pet her, as she's not the best with kids. Soon, as she's about to be full gown I will start agility as well to please her even more having fun. Also she's super jealous 🤣 she wants all the pets from every one. and other dogs she kinde chases away then. I am staring to correct her on that. She has to learn to chare :)

Funny, but there is nothing aggressive in him, rather he is the one who fears other dogs he does not know. I think he does not know how big he is :). He is very smart, easy to train. Well when he was around 1 year he could do a lot of damage around the house, but that is over now. He is jumping on the trampoline with my 10 year old girl :), would never hurt her. Though I don't let him to other children. Just based on his size he is a hazard to them if he does not take attention. I think the Caucasians are just trained to be so aggressive or raised the wrong way. Once I "inherited" a 9 year old Hungarian kuvasz - she was more a challenge, but it also worked out as soon as we clarified who the boss was. Also my German Sheppard - Rottweiler mix was a very good boy - though he was a "street dog" for several years before I picked him up. My neighbor has a husky and she is also super smart and well behaving. People who should not own a dog can mess up any dog breed...

"It is usually because it is trying to kill things" Not funny in practicality, but I'm sorry, funny during this informative vid

I would think humans would be the most difficult breed to train… 😊

Working breeds without a job and possibly the instinctual ability diminished due to no proof of capability testing before allowed to breed. Then put those in the hands of people who don't know what the breed was selected for or think that the breed history means no training needed. Sounds like plenty of owners everywhere unfortunately. And it is not limited to dogs, horses less so luckily (probably a size thing), but for instance in sheep the idea domesticated = born programmed knowing what humans want them to do, how and when ... also pops up in various places.

What I dislike about border collies is actually something that humans do to the breed: people finding it acceptable for them to air snap but they still breed from them because they’re great at agility 😐

So don’t get a working dog if you don’t have work for them. Got it

The thing is... The well behaved Border Collies don't need a dog trainer. And when they go wrong, they go REALLY BLOODY WRONG.
