That existential dread when Undiscovered Games drops a new episode on a game that I don't own.

I LOVE games like this where the game IS the players, and the rules are all in the game rather than a myriad of icons to memorize. Thanks for your awesome coverage! My fave gaming channel!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I _completely_ agree with what you said. The game IS the players. Those are the best types of games, and I feel like now that I've realized that, I cannot go back to the other games. I still have a few of those that I love from years past, but I'm rarely in the mood to learn all the new ones with all those new rules & icons & such. These older games had elegantly simple rulesets with deep, interactive gameplay. Thanks again for the great comment!

Just picked up this game second hand, but it's in German. Found your channel and this video while looking for the English rules. Great overview! Subbed

That's awesome! Welcome to the channel! I have bought many games in German and other languages, so I completely understand what it's like to look to RU-vid and find tutorial videos. In fact, that was one of my motivations for starting this channel 😅 I hope you find some great undiscovered games here!

Thank you! I think you’ll love it! It’s a perfect use of blind bidding with fixed numbers. I love the interaction of trying to get inside your opponents’ heads & then being forced to get in each other’s way on the board. It’s a unique game for sure!

@@undiscovered_games Good idea. I'll classify your videos between "money-saving episodes" and "financially wrecking" ones (mainly because shipping to my country is not cheap 🫠).

Weird question: Did you mean to show the yellow piece with the rough edge when you said “rough edges?” 👀 If so, A+ for attention to detail!!! If not, that was an awesome video editing coincidence! I’m weird and I notice things like that 🫣 😂 Another great episode btw! My hubby (the world history teacher) really wants to play this now! 🤩

👏 👏 you win! 🏆 I _did_ put that in there on purpose. I try to throw in little things like that when I edit, so thank you for noticing! You’ll probably notice some other stuff if you look closely in my other vids. That’s so awesome you caught it!!! Thanks for watching!

Another excellent presentation of a totally unknown to me game. I would definitely be searching this one out if I already didn't have the game Ys. This has some interesting similarities with Ys in the "almost" blind bidding. Here you bid half of your tokens hidden and the other half revealed during a round. This is where I got the idea for the Stonehenge variant I offered on your last video. The extra that Ys has is set collection in the form of gems and commodity speculation of those gems. And, some variable player powers gained along the way. Another big similarity is the amount of time and minutiae around breaking ties. 😅 All in all it's an excellent game. If you are interested in Ys, check out the Chairman of the Board's RU-vid review. He does an great job of explaining the game.

Thanks for the great comment as always! Ys is actually on my shelf of shame, so that's a start!! I have owned it for several years and never got around to playing it! I am vaguely familiar with how it plays, so I will definitely check out COTB's video. Your comment has given me some motivation to get Ys played soon!! I'll let you know how I like it. In Doge, I love how you reveal part of your blind bid (the district) but keep the total votes hidden. It sounds like Ys does something similar by bidding half your tokens hidden. Can't wait to check it out!!

Awesome video, this game looks right up my alley!! I enjoy Aladdin’s Dragons and kept wondering if Doge was at all similar… then when you compared it to that game I immediately said YES! I always wished Aladdin’s Dragons had a bit more depth. It’s fun but Doge looks like it could be deeper & more interactive. Thanks so much for putting this on my radar. I’ve never heard of it, but I’ll be searching for it now!!

That’s awesome you’ve played Aladdin’s Dragons. That’s a fun undiscovered game too, but I definitely like Doge better for blind bidding with fixed tokens. Aladdin’s Dragons feels like I’m reacting to the game more than my opponents (like 70% game and 30% opponents). It’s more about the resources, cards, & tiles that come out & how heavy I want to bid on certain spots. Doge feels like I’m reacting to my opponents more than game (like 70% opponents and 30% game). The only thing the game itself does is providing the order of scoring. The rest is entirely up to the players, which feels much deeper & crunchier & more interactive. Thanks for watching! Let me know how you like Doge!

Never heard of this game before but my mind kept connecting to another game that plays entirely differently. San Marco by Alan Moon. I always think of San Marco as the game that got me hooked on modern board games. I thought it was pure genius that my young daughter could play it because there was no reading required. I had never seen a game that was language independent. Doge came out the year before San Marco but I don't see any connection except for theme.
@undiscovered_games
@undiscovered_games 8 дней назад
San Marco is great! I love the "I Cut You Choose" mechanism. I have not checked, but San Marco could very well be the game that invented that mechanism. It does have a very similar game board, but otherwise yes, it's a totally different game. There's a Reiner Knizia game called King's Road that is probably most similar to Doge. But it's still quite different. Doge really stands alone in my collection. It's always a hit when we show new players too.

@@undiscovered_games That's great to hear. So many good games out there that get overlooked or are just too old. Your videos are extremely clear and easy to follow. Another great one! So what if you tie with your number of houses as well? Sorry if i missed it I'm watching this at 4:30am 😊 Would love to try The Bridges of Shangri-La by Colovini as well.
@undiscovered_games
@undiscovered_games 3 месяца назад
Ah yes, the 4:30am board game binge watching: I've been there soo many times LOL!!! Good question! If you tie for most palaces & houses, it's just a shared victory at that point. You could probably come up with a house rule, though. I'm thinking something like whoever placed their final palace first, or something like that. The Bridges of Shangri La is my fav Colovini game. Absolutely brilliant. I never really considered that an undiscovered game, but it seems like I encounter a lot of people have never played it (or never even heard of it), so maybe I need to make a video on it! You _definitely_ need to play Bridges sometime soon. It's so good... sadly hard to find but keep your eyes open. Thanks for watching as always!!

This is wonderful and timely because I just dug this out of the "games I haven't played in decades" shelf to play tonight, and this perfectly re-oriented me. One situation that's not covered in the video so far (unless it's in the discussion section) -- if more than one advisor from Quarantia are currently on the board (owned) and one of them gets neutralized, how do you pick which one from the board to neutralize?
@Epiphyte
@Epiphyte Месяц назад
Oh, the rulebook clarifies this, and I think the step is skipped in the video. After voting occurs in the Quarantia, all three Quarantia advisors become neutral before either player decides what to do. If you demonstrated this and I missed it, my apologies!
@undiscovered_games
@undiscovered_games Месяц назад
Thanks for the comment, and I will have to check the video for sure, but that might be the one situation I forgot to cover. I tried to tackle all the little weird situational rules, but I may have missed that one. Thank you!!! I will add it to the rules clarification section in the video description. :)
