I helped mom for years with one of those old beasts. We always had powdered detergent and a lot of water carrying. If I remember right we could adjust the pressure on the wringer to squeeze out more water or to get bulkier items thru. And yes it could grab fingers if you mighty careful! A lot of work. Definitely a two person job for doing the laundry up for a whole family but good memories of working together and being treated as being equally important to get the job done.
HJi Mike. Thanks for that. We had a boiler with a built in gas ring underneath and a hand operated agitator and mangle. Times have changed just more than a little. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel
Those are great machines Mike!! I remember when I was a kid in the 60's mom had one of those. My aunt and uncle that live (if their still living) in Rose Hill, Va had one as well. Of course they lived the old ways, they made their own butter, jellies, jams, heck the only thing they bought at the store was coffee, sugar, flour and salt and pepper. Everything else they grew or raised themselves. That is a life that has or is slowly slipping away. Thank you for sharing! Juddie - J & J TOA
That's alright brother I remember my mom using a ringer washer as well. Far as I'm concerned many of the old ways were and are still the best. Right till today I wash with a bucket, some soap and my hands or a plunger, it works just fine.
We had to leave our maytag at our old house old Square tub wringers can't be beat specially if water is scarce we could wash 3 loads many times before changing
I ALWAYS WONDERED HOW TO USE THIS OLD TIMED MACHINE. YOU DID A REALLY GOOD JOB OF DEMONSTRATING. YOU KNOW WHEN DRUVING THRU THE COUNTRY SIDE IN GA. YOU SEE THESE MACHINES ON THE PORCEDS OF OLD WOODEN HOUSES! GOD BLESS YOU. MERRY CHRISTMAS🎄🎀😇🙏
This brings back so many memories of my granny. I remember my older brother got his arm caught in the wringer rollers one time. Thanks for sharing God bless!
Only thing I've ever seen go bad is the seal under the agitator. If it messes up water can seep into the gearbox and damage the transmission. Theres a check and fill plug you can remove on the transmission and if you can dip your finger in the oil to check it. If its milky looking then water is leaking into it and you need to replace the seal and change your oil. Otherwise they're pretty bulletproof.
Omg. Is this what my grandma had when I was a kid? I just remember she would hook it up to the kitchen sink. I thought it may have been a dishwasher. Unfortunately neither she or my grandpa are around for me to ask.
Hello::: My Maytag I bought 8 years ago Broke. Computer board went bad. It comes on acts like its going to work but thats it. Went back to Lowes bought new one last weekend. They will not make stuff today that will last 10 years. They can make it last as long as they want it to !!!
Mike check out log cabins loom channel. He still uses his to wash with. He put out a video roughly two years ago about. Getting some parts ordered for his .
I’ll bet that the clothes come out of that really clean. How long do you let it agitate for? Really enjoyed this video. My grandmother had one in her basement she and my great-gran would use when I was a kid. They also had a cook wood stove on the third floor of their tenement house, lots of work for the boys to do carrying up wood! Earlier times. Thanks Mike.
