The definition of a parasocial relationship right here. Jake kept me company so many years while I did my weekend tank maintenance. Coming back to this video to hang out one more time. I never actually met him, but yet, I miss him. 💙
Love the content. Continue to be the voice of the silent majority of reefers! For real… i think your overall takes on the hobby in general are the same as those who quietly have amazing reef in their homes and mostly away from social media! Keep it up!
very nice tank. you can not only grow corals, but your colors are crazy. i have been doing it over 30 years and still learn things all the time. I am LPS guy never got into the sticks but i have some. i have a bubble coral over 20 years old. love the LPS.
We have Asterina in my school's reef. We don't give them any respect but we don't worry about then. I have only once ever seen an Asterina negatively impact a coral. Cheers, Chris
Cool video. Like the updates I do have a question. What’s the best way to wash your hands before you put them in the tank? Water only? Use soap? Do you know? Appreciate all the videos 🙏
I know you've done some fish videos, but the focus of the channel being corals. That's very cool, but EYE would like to see more fish, inverts, etc... Reef life that can coexist. I do appreciate all the "hardware" and tech reviews. Just a thought. Thanks for your channel.
The asterina starfish can be extremely unsightly when they grow out of control. I had to tear down a tank once when i had like thousands of them. I would rate them the same category of pest as vermetid snails as far as im concern.
I don't know why I'm watching because I'm not allowed to have aquarium no more but this aquarium you just showed makes me want to get another aquarium I'll blame it on you Jake the man and those starfish are the best man people say take those out no way they're the best
Question about the lighting. Can you tell us how many hours you have the whites on and at what percent . Same with the blues and other colors. Do you do a blast like 4 hours of Max lighting?
Hey guys, great video as always. Hoping you can help, where is the best place to start learning in depth knowledge from peer reviewed sources about reef tanks. Currently finding it really difficult to find articles specific to reef tanks and would love to learn more. Thanks in advance
What's the status on the closed loop tank? I see that it's still empty in the background. When is it going to be filled with fish or coral? It would be refreshing to see a successful closed loop system.
It's on one if those free youtuber / creator subscription sites. Have heard it in a handful of videos. Pretty sure Daniel Schiffer has used it in some of his commercials
I notice you skim pretty aggressive (your skimmer set level is pretty high in the neck and running filter socks) What’s your opinion of turning the skimmer setting down so it doesn’t pull everything out? Or as dr Tim says not skimming at night so the corals can consume the bacteria before the skimmer pulls them out Reason I ask is because I to for the longest time struggled with nutrients being so low because I would filter my tanks the same way as you are When I’ve backed off to much my filtration then I had issues with to bacteria in my system (fish would get ick and Lps brown jelly etc…) Would love to hear your what someone like you has to say thanks Jake 🙏 🙂
Forgot to mention the only reason I wanted higher nutrients is because everything in my tanks from nems to lps to sps was all pale I also noticed with my ulns the tank was super unstable algea cyano and dynos would take hold way to easily
There isn't really an all or nothing, black and white way to run a protein skimmer. I kind of go back and forth with it as needed to keep the coral coloration as vibrant as I can. I can adjust the water flow of the controllable PSK pump or raise and lower the water level in the skimmer to tweak the skimmate production.
@Reef Builders I like Astarinas too!!!! But I like coralline algae and when the get abundant in the system I’ve noticed they eat it off my back wall and rocks. Have you noticed this?
