i am always attracted to samples 😂 and ma‘am, even if i don’t buy right away, that not because your product sucked! it could be that i just don’t need a cake today, but i will keep you in my mind for when i do! i once came back 8 months later to purchase something that i had a sample of 😊 so please keep that in mind and don’t think you „wasted“ a sample. if it’s good, we‘ll come back and maybe even recommend you to friends and family!
I tried samples of fudge at a booth when I visited family a couple states north, I didn’t have cash to buy any at the time but I raved to my family about it, and sure enough they’re still loyal customers to that sweet lady’s confectionery business!
Most of the time my husband and I don’t bring any money when we first go to a new market. We try all the samples and look over everything. We get cards and take pics of what we like. Then we budget that cash for next time we go and buy everything.
@@ByDaniSimoneI feel like the best equivalent of samples for you would be either paper coupons for a free fitting, swatches of fabric, a mannequin with a beautiful gown, or a gallery of your portfolio. You could always have Jordan almonds, tea sandwiches, or sparkling cider on display to give them a “taste” of what a fitting would be like at your bridal boutique. A sample is just a clear indication of what’s to be expected. What does that look like for your business? Take the highlights and draw people in. 😉
When I first opened my restaurant 20 years ago my uncle told me instead of giving a free sandwich on the first day that we should charge $1. We had a line wrapped around the block. It wasn't about the $1. He told me customers not willing to pay $1 are only there for freebies. Sometimes it's about the type of people you attract to your business. Good luck with your business. Great tip! A dollar was a low enough investment that someone who was genuinely curious about trying your food wouldn't've been put off by "wasting a dollar" if they didn't like it.
A sandwich is different than a bite size piece of cake though. I would pay a dollar for a full sandwich, I will not pay a dollar for a small cube of cake. Charging less than a dollar makes them have to deal with change which people also don't want to do and it's not worth running a card for less than a dollar. What works for your business doesn't automatically apply to other people

@@polljones8921 even if she used environmentally friendly wraps she would still do 0 impact on helping the planet. if you buy ANYTHING from the store you have no right to bash on her, because food and items get wrapped in plastic, they get carried in trucks that pollute the air and so forth. therefore, you contribute to earths pollutions
i couldn’t create that waste tbh. tiny serving plates and tiny cut slices for the customer, all the way! Or under a glass “dome display” like cake shops. It also looks classier. :)
Samples are like the advertisements of the farmer’s market. They’re a worthwhile investment. And they’re among the few kinds of advertisements that are actually enjoyable to experience!
I hate taking the risk on not enjoying what I buy so I just avoid it all together, even if I’m pretty sure I’ll really like it. Samples help me with that so much and pretty much always helps seem the product to me, I’m always so grateful when people have them
Let me tell you something! I watched this video yesterday and did our first farmers market today. The samples idea made us sell out of all our product. The product that we did not do samples for did not sell as much. It really works.
@@TheStationBakery I bought fudge from a great privately owned online company. They had different kinds of fudge I had never tried before but they looked interesting. I hate wasting food so I didn't buy any of it. Well, after the 4th or 5th time buying the same fudge, the owner of the company placed a handwritten note, of thanks for my patronage in my box, along with samples of 2 of the other fudges I really wanted to try. I liked one but not the other. The next time I ordered fudge, I ordered my usual plus the one sample I liked. I can't tell you how many times I go to restaurants, & see something interesting, but because I'm afraid I won't like it & it would go to waste, I don't order it. Giving samples is a fabulous way to introduce people to your offerings. If they don't like something, no harm, no foul but if they do like something, you have a customer for life. Yes girl! Samples are amazing to have on-hand. Some people are tight with their money and wont take a chance. Plus, it draws people in that may not have even looked your way. Im glad this worked out for you! Get that money girl! 💙

So true when she handed me my sample she was shaking so hard the sample turned to a Mcflurry but I just couldn't stop mate. I kept trying each flavor to make sure she really wasn't a 1 hit wonder 👍
I love you for giving out samples. In this world, where too many people want you to buy what they're selling, and take it as a loss if you don't like it; it's actually refreshing to see you giving out samples. It's like a tip to the customer ❤
I think the samples was a great idea! People prefer to try before they buy because they can't afford to waste their money. That was a smart idea and I'm so glad it worked out well.
Exactly, and some flavors may not taste good to people even if they've previously liked it. E.g. I usually like chocolate but some chocolate cakes are horrendous - way too sweet.
I'm extremely picky, I'm more likely to buy and return if I have a sample and liked it, while without a sample I'm far less likely to buy a product cause the high risk that I'm not going to like it.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Her whole presentation shows that she put a lot of thought into her products & business. It's very professional; something you rarely see at farmer's markets; it stands out & invites you in.

Samples are always a good thing it also helps with customers who are indecisive as they can try different options without having the pressure of committing to a flavour they may not like

Samples are a good idea if you can afford to give them out; I hate wasting food, so I tend to stick with what I know I'll like/finish, and samples are the main way that things get added to that repertoire (well, samples and picking at other people's food like a yule lad when I'm at their homes)
Samples are an awesome way to put your product out there. It takes confidence in your own product, which is already reassuring to potential customers! Even if somebody doesnt buy one immediately, if its a good product we remember. I still remember a honey sample i got three years ago, and ive been buying jars from them since. Especially when paired with business cards, this gives a lot of confidence in the product. Also your cakes look so good! They look so moist
Samples always help me make the decision to buy! Especially with baked goods! I usually like all the flavors, but this gives me a chance to decide on my favorites to purchase! Thank you for giving your customers confidence with what they are going to get!
It gets you a lot more attention too. People notice from across the market other people lining up for a sample and come over. It's a great marketing tactic and people think you're generous and want to support cause of this as well
absolutely true, i worked in several bakeries and grocery store bakeries that refused to give samples, so when i worked one day all by myself, i did it and our customer baser grew so big the store that i worked at had their other sister stores (3 of them), they all insisted onme making my best cakes and donuts. i had a long list of customers everyday that the stores hired three other ladies to help me with the orders. i baked the items and they helped decorate them and package the orders. we were very busy from that point on. so bravo for you!
Oh my gosh, I LOVE that you have them in enclosed containers!!! I avoid samples because of all the germs but what you're doing is totally genius! The cakes look delicious as well
@@chriszardis8543 SO many things use plastic, a farmers market is a drop in the proverbial bucket. Look at GROCERY STORES. Everything around your house Sometimes there aren't practical alternatives. And manufacturers are coming up with better, greener products, better ways to recycle. We have to live, we can't go back to the cavemen days.
Don’t be upset if someone does turn down your sample, though. There are those of us that will support you from a distance because we are allergic to ingredients that you use. I hope your business continues to grow!
Samples do get me though. I am one of those "I was gonna buy cake but look, a snackie." And then I get two cakes. Also cakes are hella freezer friendly.
I appreciate samples from shops & stalls because by giving a chance for the potential customers to be given testers, it will draw the customers to keep you in mind.

And also I can say there’s plenty of times I tried a farmers market sample and didn’t buy that particular day but then kept an eye out for that vendor the next time I was there and bought something :) sometimes samples are “planting a seed” so to speak
Samples are always much appreciated! I usually do end up buying something if I enjoy the sample, especially since while im trying it, i get to hear from the owner more about their business. So interesting hearing how people do what they do best. Love it ❤

And too you! may I suggest a flavor? My neighbor made me one for my birthday every year is a mint chocolate chip cheesecake and when I say it is to die for... Mint chocolate chip ice cream is still a big seller so you know there's a market. You don't even really have to advertise the color gives it away. But either way best of everything in your endeavors. And play with themes themes are fun you can do it for anything bachelorette parties and birthdays even for kids.. SpongeBob cheesecake. I don't know why that's funny to me. This is how many businesses built a following never be afraid to put yourself out there the worst that happens they say no but the ones that sample are definitely going to purchase - good for you I’m so glad to see you succeed ❤
Handing out Samples at the booth, with you as a salesperson also means 1. you have confidence in your own product and its quality, not hiding behind a wrapped package where the customer only "regrets" their choice after driving home and trying the product 2. it also opens up the conversation about your product. Usually people dont go to a cake booth and start asking "what ingridients, how was this made" etc? but if they tried a specific taste and theres something they want to comment on (texture, flavor, moisture) it opens up a dialog about your product and gives you the opportunity to further sell it 3. even IF someone dislikes your product, you could have a chance to ask them for constructive critic. what didnt they like? is it maybe just that one flavor that they dislike? if several people dislike a certain product its also a chance to reconsider it and adjust it according to the criticism. Eitherway, I am super glad you are having a good time getting your cakesales running. You rock, Queen!
That's fantastic! Congratulations on your Farmers Market stand! Samples have always been a great way to introduce customers to new flavors they might have been hesitant to order beforehand. There have been numerous times before long before COVID that I've bought an item at a coffee shop when I was just there for coffee because samples can also encourage up sales after the customers got a taste of something positive that they enjoyed. It's also great that you're providing covered individual samples over open samples! Good luck on your business and hope your sales stay consistent and grow in the future!
