Wow a lot of work there Adam, some useful info there even if i'm not yet looking to go into atmos, (haven't got a Mac) the rea-stream over network interesting, didnt know reaper had a surround sound plugin, but i now understand some basics of how atmos works.
I spent way too much time trying to make this all work reliably with Reaper. But, in the end, I found it much easier and less-headaches to just buy Cubase and use the Atmos Renderer built-in to it, works on Windows or Mac. There are some limitations versus a complete Atmos setup using the Dolby's renderer or Production Suite, but for someone just looking to learn and try Atmos, Cubase has been great to use. My current workflow is to mix the song using Reaper as normal, than export the final stems and import in to Cubase to do the Atmos version mix. Not ideal, but a decent compromise to learn.
Summary: Every DAW supports Dolby Atmos as long as you are on Mac, or have a second computer for the renderer. You also need the renderer software. The 2 DAWs that have the renderer built-in are Logic & Cubase/Nuendo
DAR is available for Windows. That's actually where it came from as used to run on DELL rackmounts, but Dolby only made the Audio Bridge and VST for MacOS for some reason when it came out for MacOS.
Hi! First of all. Great Video... this is the solution for the last bits that I needed, to get myself ready for an upcomming job. Side note. Why did you not use the 32 Channel version of ReaStream (the one you get when you download the standalone plugins). Is there an actual reason or just. I had this so I use this
You can’t use ReaPlugs external versions on a Mac as far as I know, and also I was unaware that there was a 32 channel version in existence- the one I got was stereo only!
Hey Adam, I followed along here and everything is visually working in Reaper and the Renderer, but I do not hear any audible difference in the headphones as I move from front/rear or up/down. I am in headphone only mode. Did I miss a step? BTW I am on a MAC using the single machine approach. I do clearly hear movement if I just load a reference ATMOS master file into the renderer. Thanks again for the research to figure this out.
Did you define object numbers and timecode etc? Or if it’s a bed did you define all 10 channels going to the renderer? You may have to check all the steps again
@@adamsteelproducer Yes, I am stumped on this one. Time code is on its own track (as per the video), and the renderer follows along perfectly. I can see the correct channels impacted in the bed, and for the objects. I can hear audio, but it is all fixed in position, despite what the plugins and the renderer show. I tried changing the binaural settings to "Far", but still cannot detect any changes. I am using the vst plugin, not the AU. I won't hijack your comments thread here, so I will continue trying to troubleshoot. Cheers.
