I want my stories to be accessible to everyone! This is one of my favorites of my own novels, set in my extensive Hidden Lands fantasy world, read aloud by the author with a little bonus background info.

DOLL GIRL MEETS DEAD GUY:
It’s not easy being a doll girl in a flesh-and-blood world. Although her race was created from magic as second-class citizens, Sorla’s baked goods are now famous for miles around thanks to her hard work and unrelenting optimism. She’s even attracted the notice of Prince Seldon, who invites her to work at the royal bakery in the capital.
The one thing Sorla’s life is missing is love. Her youthful crush ditched her for a normal girl with generous curves (of course), and technically she is unsexed (parts sold separately). Flesh girls certainly don’t have to save money to buy themselves lady bits before they can even date.
Her ride-for-hire to the capital? Dorr, a soldier revived from a battlefield death, as is the way of his necromancing clan. He might rather have been left to die with his comrades. Instead, a few parts of their bodies were stitched on to fix his. Scarred and broken, Dorr wants to drop off his overly cheerful companion as quickly as possible-until he realizes that her pastries are the only thing that’s tasted good since his revival.
As they slowly open up over dog rescues (her idea), graveyard strolls (his idea), and of course, delicious pastry, love and trust grows between these two misfits. But the war isn’t over, and when the royal family expect Sorla’s pastries to save the life of the hero of the realm, she might lose Dorr and everything she’s worked for.
Cross a Ghibli movie with The Nightmare Before Christmas, add a little spice, and you might have the quirkiest of romcoms.
TW: This is a largely cozy & comforting story with found family, supportive family, and healing, but there are mentions of and flashbacks to war. Dorr is dealing with PTSD. There is also some reference to assault & some prejudice against intersex and asexual characters. If you are feeling very sensitive about any of these topics, this might not be the right story for you at this time.

It was so nice to return after my trip and find out that all the chapters were out! I tried to savour them a little bit and don't listen to them all at once, but I ended up going through them pretty quickly. I'm gonna miss this😢 It was really nice story, I had a great time with it! The ending was so nice, I'm glad all the characters ended up well, despite the result of the war. I'm looking forward to the next instalment with Una! I'm really curious to hear about the aftermath of the war and ofc I'd love to keep following these characters. Particularly Huston and Aren( idk if I'm writing their names correctly, sorry!), I liked them a lot! I didn't expect a queer romance on this story, it was such a nice surprise! I have the vengeful half on my hands now so I'll be returning to the hidden lands pretty soon 🥸✨ Thanks for sharing this story with us! It must have been a lot of work to film these, so I want you to know that your effort was greatly appreciated ❤

Aw I am so glad you liked the ending and the Una book is well along its way. And you will certainly keep seeing them. Eustan and Arn, but I don't blame anyone listening to an audio for not knowing...or a reader for not knowing how to pronounce things. We can't win sometimes 😅 I would LOVE to tell their story, especially since as I noted at the end, you only get a pretty hollow version of Eustan. The main reason I haven't started on them yet is that I'm not sure what will be going on for them externally. Their interior relationship I can well imagine, but DO they stay in the palace? Do they go live somewhere beautiful and left well alone? Does Arn's taste for fame lead them to the burgeoning music industry? I'm not sure yet.

@@lidiyafoxgloveauthor Ahh I would love to read a book exploring that! In my headcanon they would kind of butt heads about it in the beginning, but perhaps Eustan could be convinced to and even start appreciating travelling all over the place for Arn's career. He could take the time to visit and smell the flowers! Or not! I'm ready to be surprised! Either way, I hope you do write it, I'd like to know what becomes of them 🤓

@@phoebs987 Yes, a travel/road trip sort of novel could be a fun one... Perhaps the arc here is that Eustan, spending his life in the rigid world of court and military, has trouble even imagining an alternative, and Arn helps him to finally leave it all behind...

i missed the premier! D: it's 104 and i had to make sure my animals were going to be okay in their pastures and the barn 😅 This was a great treat to listen to while i cool off and get some hydration in💛 was telling some friends looking for new romance reads about the book ^_^

I REALLY enjoyed this! I usually don't read romance, but decided to give this a try. I found Sorla and Dorr so endearing, and the overall cast of characters was super lovable. Absolutely loved the story and the setting. I left a nice review on Storygraph (i don't use Goodreads) and I'm planning on picking up a physical copy sometime to expand my fantasy library! This also made me interested in Velsa and Grau's backstory, so I'm going to borrow those ebooks from my library as well :) Unrelated: I swear, your channel popped up at the perfect time for me. I've been thinking about getting into writing after only considering myself a visual artist since i was a kid. And even though the type of writing i want to do is a little different (comics instead of novels) I've been really appreciating the writing advice and worldbuilding videos on your channel. It's reinvigorating my love of art and pursuing a creative life. (I don't comment on videos, like, ever. So i hope that in itself is a testament to your work and your channel!)

The playlist is upside down (it begins with chapter 7 and ends with chapter one). Hopefully you can change it for people who come across it in the future. What a wonderful book this was Lidiya. I am normally very averse to romance, because I have encountered so many novels that romanticized abusive relationships (twilight copycats). Unfortunately they don't have a separate toxic-romance genre... That would help a lot, because romance gets an undeserved bad rep and I completely gave up on the genre. Doll Girl Meets Dead Guy was fortunately very wholesome. I got nervous with the prince, but relieved to find that Sorla had a good sense about that situation.Thank you for the wonderful read. Thanks for letting me know, I fixed it. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. It is too bad there isn't an easy way to distinguish between the two. Some other ones I've really enjoyed lately are Half a Soul, The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy, and Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeries.
