Doll Tutorial: How to Repair Cracks in Your Doll 

My mother use to keep her dolls clean with butter and she would rub them down until they shined. Sadly, all her dolls are gone and I had to start my own collection. If the cut is deep, you can use a little wood filler and touch the area up with matching acrylic paint. I do, however, like the idea of pastel colors to do light restoration.

Oh my! I just bought a papier mache doll from 1830. She has a great deal of cracks and problems. I am going to try this method on the BACK bottom of her shoulder plate as a test. Thanks for the tip!

How can you use a liquid cleanser without rinsing. Won't it get sticky. The doll i have is severely crazed. I was wondering if a thin layer of resin would be ok to use. I'm not interested in restoring, im not selling it. I just want to keep it from falling apart.

if its that badly cracked i just repaint them, sand it smooth or just remove the paint completely (depending if paint is lead if its lead i just chip everything away)

Oil pastels never completely dry, so I'm wondering if dust adhering to the patched lines is an issue

Don’t we have to worry about lead contamination with chipping paint on pre70’s dolls, and especially the really old ones from the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s? What kind of household cleaner is she using?

i sand them down and repaint them takes longer to fax as i rebuild some of my haunted dolls

Ok idea but that wont stay put and rub off. Is there some sort of sealer that you can spray on the face that will keep the skin looking smooth without the cracks reappering over time??

My mother was gifted a Peterkins peekaboo display doll when she was a child. Recently shes been gifted to me. Im afraid the cracks are too frequent and severe now for fixing this way. I have her in my room which isnt too hot or cold but now im really worried about further cracking..(you can see the cork under her scalp poor thing)

WHAT household cleaner? there are hundreds! Be specific please.

Household cleaner,? what does she mean ? bleach ? hard floor cleaner ? window cleaner ? etc etc etc Vagueness does not explain anything.

Never, ever put dolls in the attic or the basement two areas which will destroy dolls. Try to keep them in a box with tissue in a climate controlled environment. If you have a glass display case, this would be ideal. Never store composition dolls in plastic bins and remember these dolls need lots of care.
