After watching for only one year I have started to go back in time and watch some of your earlier teachings and you are flat out Brilliant. You are constantly on the mark and so calming, I just love the way you show how to get it done.

Impressive. Takes me back to my Boy Scout days when we went camping on a VERY tight budget. I actually used an old shower curtain for shelter and a cleaned out dish soap bottle for a canteen. Our stove was an old #10 coffee can. They worked.

Very instructive. My father, a south Texas cowboy who served as a boatswainsmate during WWII, taught me many of these knots when the opportunity, doing ranch work, presented. I liked the fact you went from hypothetical, to planning to application and showed each step as well as multiple uses for things. I at one time felt silly putting some hemp twine in camping stuff but more and more I see how valuable it is.

I really like how you PATIENTLY took the TIME to show us step by step how to make rope, shelter, tripod, etc. and didn't use much editing or anything, just SHOWED us in detail. I wonder if my wife would mind if i practiced this with our shower curtain in the back yard.. Some how i think she wont be real happy with me. Even if i would explain why and where i seen it from.. But all in all its a nice shelter with materials he found.. How nice would that be if you had better stuff to work with. This one reason i like his video's. He shows you several things you can use . goes into detail so you can do it. Heck if you had to get outa dodge because poop hit the fan you could grab some items of your own from your place where you live and make a shelter with just the steps he shown us here. He is showing technics on how to build things . take that and go with it.

Collecting rain water with the shower curtain as it's set up in the video, tie half cone as shown in the video, about six to eight inches from the bottom in the middle of the INSIDE of the big sheet, pull it till gently until it forms a valley tie it to a stake, when it rains place a container at the bottom of the valley to catch the rain water.

I am in Boy Scouts right now and the way we were taught to do a tripod lashing is different. Instead of wrapping around all three poles, I would wrap in the shape of a figure 8 on all three of the poles, but I still take all of the rest of the steps you used. If you have thicker diameter twine rope, it works extremely well. I know there are many ways to tie knots, so your method is as good as mine. Since I am in BS's I have learned a lot about making shelters and and cooking food, as well as starting fires with one match or Flint-n-steel. But I have just found your channel, so now this is one of my favorites, because I can look on your videos to find new ideas or learn new things. Just before this, I watched a couple of your dugout videos and they were great. I didn't know you could do all that with a small foldable shovel. You just got another Subscriber to your channel.

Honestly, this is priceless. When I started waking up to the fact that the shtf at any given moment, I scrounged up what I could from what I had lying around. I had a job but most of that money went towards school supplies and helping my parents out (I was 13). So the dollar store became my go to place. Now ten years later, making decent money, I'm still paying for school supplies and helping my folks with bills (things don't suddenly change because you age sometimes) but I have enough when I save for nice gear. I'll tell you what though: fancy expensive gear ain't worth jack when you don't know how to use it. Knowledge is the one thing that will keep you alive. That and staying cool, calm, and collected. Those knots made this video pure gold brother. Thanks for the knowledge. Goes to show my point: knowledge is key. If you really had to, the cheap gear will save you. And even when it all fails, of you got the know how you can repurpose broke gear. Keep it up!

I've had one of those little knives for over two years now. Yes it's cheap, and the blade will swivel once you start to lean on it with a decent amount of pressure - SO BE MINDFUL - but...two years later and it's still in my pocket right now! I don't leave the house without it. I work (labour), for an excavation company, and that knife is great for sawing through roots in awkward places that you can't get at with a spade. It grinds through soil and rocks and anything else that is in the way, and it chews through roots 2 or 3 inches in diameter. It gets jobs done that I would not want to use a good knife on. Well worth a buck or two. In fact, grab a handful of them, for that price. Great video, Corporal!!

I dont buy super expensive preppers gear 2 because if u lose it or anything its a waiste of money good video finally someone who thinks for the regular working men that got mouths 2 feed and rent 2 pay and cant spend 300 on a knife or a backpack

best $5 camp ive ever seen

Mad props to showing you can take anything and make it work if need be. The other thing that I've noticed as how much more relaxed you seem in the newer video's. Outstanding videos and thank you for all you do.

One item that was overlooked from the dollar store that would come in handy oh so often. And of course, it involves another dollar. In the stationary section, there are metal file/paper clamps. This would be great for the shelter attachment to the ridgeline. Also, those folding knives, once the pin either breaks and or bends so the plastic handle breaks, take the blade and cut a slit into a hardwood branch for a handle and slip that blade into the slit. You can either do a twine wrap, cordage wrap, recycled wire wrap to hold the blade rigid. That makes the blade safer to use, less likely to break and get longer use out of it for your dollar. Which also brings me to one more item. (shouldn't we just go to an expenditure of $10?) In the spring and summer months of the dollar store, they sell gardening tools. Their little pruners are great as long as you do not cut too thick a branch with it. Their garden hand trowels/shovels are very handy. And their folding branch pruning saws, while not that strong, but handy, cheap and useful. Like for cutting that slit into the end of a branch for the knife blade or for cutting small wood for cooking fires. Their seeds are from american seed company and at the Dollar Tree are 4 pkts/dollar. And they started something new, they emblazon onto the package all the seeds that are heirloom variety. This means once you have settled down and need to grow food, you can do so and then let some of each kind "go to seed" to provide you with seed for next year's garden.

This is extremely practical. You got the stuff and broke is down perfectly so that anyone could do the same. I appreciate it!

Everybody needs to be a boy scout, at least be a first class. The merit badges are fun, especially if they have to do with anything survival . If you can see the stars, you ain't lost, a compass helps too tho. I went to summer camp 4 years and we always went to the " pioneer area". We camped every chance we got. It's a learning experience for sure.

Quite a well thought out video. Cheap and practical uses for dollar store items. Anyone can afford and just keep all these things handy. The shelter and tripod very handy and informative! Especially the tripod! Way better than the 120$ Henry survival kit review where nothing is actually used or demonstrated!

Corporal I own a Fly in Hunting and Fishing Lodge way up in Northern Canada, I been doing survival packs since I was a kid and still do to this day for my customers and myself, because I have had to put my plane down in the bush overnight many times mostly because of weather, Great ideas you have for people to get cheap survival items from the $ store, The only thing I would like to comment on is about those pack of lighters you got and are showing, The problem with those is they are hard to light and if it is a bit cooler out they dont light, plus I am a smoker for over 40 years now as well, those lighters are something I wouldn't recommend to get, because they dont work 75% of the time, You can get water proof matches at the $store or just buy a few Bic lighter they are a few bucks for a couple but are reliable and last a long time, or a Zippo lighter is the best water rain proof and wind proof, also the great thing about a Zippo is you can put any kind of fuel into them lantern oil you name it and they light, Thanks, Bear L.

I'll have to see how much it weighs but it dawned on me that the shower curtain could make a very good potential groundcloth. I prefer to use a drinking straw for a eye dropper but love the idea you have also.

Consider in lieu of an eyedropper, putting the sodium hypochlorite into the bottletop, then dipping your finger into the sodium hypochlorite and tapping your dipped finger to release one drop at a time. The final drop doesn't require tapping if the water bottle is reasonably full and your finger stretches down to the water level. It also serves to more thoroughly cleanse the fingertip and could be done with several fingertips in sequence, according to how many drops you need to add to the water.

In 1981 I hitch hiked all over the south west. I learned how to make a camp stove from a roll of toilet paper and a number 3 tomato tin. I cooked a small pot of beans on it! Great video!

I'm surprised at how well jute cord draws up liquid! I used some as a wick to diffuse cologne into the air; I checked after 24 hours to find liquid spilled outside the container. That stuff is nuts.

You are a very resourceful man and I thought this was a great video. We are preppers here and I will always remember some of these things you showed me. Thanks! You NEVER know when something could happen and you have to spend the night in a wooded area. I'm thinking that even if you were in your car, they tend to become like refrigerators and not the place you want to be in certain situations and any knowledge is better than none. I always carry a wool blanket and some food and water and a way to start a fire. You never know, you could be stuck on an interstate on a sheet of ice in a literal parking lot with no way for emergency vehicles to get to you. Be prepared for anything!
