Dolly was asked about people thinking a song she wrote was Whitney Houston's her reply was "Whitney can get the credit as long as I get the cash." Dolly also has a great sense of humor and doesn't take herself seriously.

Dolly and Porter Wagoner (the host of the show who gave her the start) had a falling out because she left the show in 1974 after her 5-year contract was up, and he even sued her 5 years later. When she was leaving the show, though, she wrote this song for him. Many years later, when he fell into financial ruin, she bought his music for several million dollars and then immediately gave it back to him. They reconciled, and she visited him in hospice on the day of his death.

Dolly Parton was a cast member on "The Porter Wagoner Show" (a syndicated Country music show) from 1967 (when they began videotaping the program in color) to 1974, when she left the show to embark on a solo career. Parton had to wear special dresses and outfits to cover up her large breasts, in order to not offend the program sponsors. Once she was on her own, she was more open about showing off her large breasts, and the rest of her body. Even so, Dolly Parton was/is Dolly Parton, and most people like and love her for just being herself; a kind, generous, and gracious woman with a sense of humor.

Not only does Dolly have a beautiful voice, she has a beautiful soul. What she's done for the people of Sevierville, Tn is just out of this world. This part of Appalachia tends toward the "less privileged" (I'm from NC, just about 2 hours away from her hometown) & Dolly has given the people there jobs & improved schools...the area was hit by major fires a few years back & she donated money to people who lost homes & places of work. She is also very accepting of her LGBTQ+ fans and has set up a program for young children to get free books. She's one of the few celebrities that I find truly admirable. Beautiful inside AND out.

Saw her in concert over 40 years ago and I was second row center and she was stunning beautiful and she never acted like she was. She was tiny just all of 5 feet at the most and a vibrant personality, warm and bubbly which just drew you in and you felt like you were in her living room and she was having a visit with you and playing you some songs. There were no light shows or smoke, just her and her guitar and I don't remember the band but I guess they were there.

You are right, that is a great song. I haven’t heard it in years. Thanks for the reminder about it, I’ll listen to it again myself.
