Writing "I Will Always Love You" was just one of Dolly's many career accomplishments. Included is the story of why she said "No" to Elvis Presley when he wanted to record what later became an international mega hit by Whitney Houston.
This woman's personality transcends musical genre, race, gender and region. Who doesn't love Dolly Parton? Who doesn't love her energy and zest for womanhood and life? No one, ever.
Between the good looks, brilliant song writing, beautiful singing, playing multiple instruments, acting, and just general likable personality, I put Dolly in the top ten greatest entertainers of our time. Not to mention smart business woman.
The song "I Will Always Love You" always reminds me of her variety show in the 1970s and 1980s. I know this is supposed to be a sad song but I have such happy memories of this song. Dolly's big hair and giggling and winking and "y'all come back now!" and her charm. Such a wonderful woman and a happy song!
I will always love Dolly's version. Whitney was amazing but there's something about the simplicity, the earnestness I guess with which Dolly sings it that stirs more emotion. A little more raw and from the heart. Whitney took it and made it an awesome power ballad.
So true. She very sure of herself. She once quoted, "There's a brain underneath my wigs and theres a heart underneath my breast. (ha, ha). I'l love her quotes. She's also has a great sense of humor.
She has never been trash ...... Always a beautiful and brilliantly talented woman ..... She is an amazing talent And so Loved ...... Very brilliant and intelligent artist Beautiful talented star
Oh but Dolly! You can FEEl the emotions from YOUR song and i love your precious angel voice that comes from the heart. To me, that has always been your song. Im from Sevier Co and play music and cover some of your songs. Love you always
If you want a version of "I Will Always Love You" to wow you and knock your socks off listen to Whitney, but if you want a version to touch your heart and convey a genuine heartfelt emotion, listen to Dolly's version. When Dolly wrote it and sang it she was doing it with and for real emotional reasons as the show explained.
Yeah she wanted to move past doing the Porter show. Dolly's version came from Dolly's heart and that's what makes it so special but your right, Whitney was absolutely magnificent. Gives me goosebumps lol
Dolly didn't refuse Elvis, she refused the deal that Col. Parker wanted to make. It all turned out really good and right anyhow. Dolly got to keep it after already getting a hit out of it and Whitney slammed it out of the park!!
Just got to the part in the interview where Whitney Houston sang a bit. What a otherworldly voice. And now Dolly is singing her version. She owns that song in more ways than 1. Angel voice
" I have met a guy who met Dolly on a flight and he as so amazed, how she was so interested in asking him what he did for a living, etc. Truly one of the kindest and brightest star around.
Say what you want about this woman but you can just tell she has a heart of gold and speaks of herself so highly. I love her confidence. Haters really don't get to this lady.
She is simply an UUTTERLY TRULY BEAUTIFUL WOMAN AND HUMAN BEING!!! You Will Always BE BLESSED. Thank you Dolly Parton for everything YOU HAVE GIVEN THE WORLD! You CAN NEVER... EVER BE FORGOTTEN, only ALWAYS WITH US. LOVE, ADORE, ADMIRE AND RESPECT YOU IMMENSLY....Thank You for existing ... ♥️
Today's snowflakes would do REALLY WELL to take this woman's advice!! She knew what she was doing, admits to using ALL of her female talents for her gain and she knew what the world was and is....and didn't make excuses for herself or others...men included. She was smart ..beautiful...could write and sing..and charm her way in any situation to get what she wanted. And you can't blame her for that. In fact..you have to respect that kind of talent. She just had a goal and a drive and desire to be something and she knew the game and how to play it, and she DID IT! AND WON!! BIG!! Shesh...the furthest thing from the younger generation today. I'm writing this on Jan 5th 2020 in case you're wondering.
The first time I heard I will Always Love you was when Dolly recorded it and it went to number one. About a decade later she released it again and once again it went to number one. When Whitney Houston came out with her version I did not care for her version. There is no disputing that Whitney had a great voice but it seemed to me that she blasted this song out in a way to showcase her magnificent voice. Dolly sang it to express the emotion she was feeling when she wrote it and I much preferred the version that was all about the lyrics. There is no denying that Whitney did a terrific job but Dolly understood the meaning of the song and why wouldn't she? She wrote it!
I will need therapy when Dolly goes home to be with God b/c I just LOVE that woman with all my heart and have since I was 10 years old. I wanted to record with her ever since I could hold a mic and stand on stage. I am KC and I approve this message
I LOVE Dolly's version her character sang to Burt Reynolds character in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. A great classic movie from the two of them. 💗
I had a guy to this day is retaliating against me because i needed to take time to generate a career. Had no clue who he was and how much power he had. He looked at me as rejecting him. Even though he was shackung up with a woman down the street.
If you had let Elvis record your song "I Will Always Love You", Dolly, it would probably made you more money , even if you had to give Elvis half the money it made if he recorded it. I would have jumped at the chance even if I had to split the profits. I wonder if you regret it now, even though you probably are fixed for life. Not everyone has a God given talent and I know you have worked extremely hard and also had fun with it. God bless you always Dolly. Love Glenda
No Dolly loves Dolly but Elvis's manager was a ass and told Dolly if Elvis sings the song we will own half rights to this song and Dolly was hurt but hey i wouldnt give up rights to this song and Elvis loved Dolly singing and her but Elvis manager was for money and didnt let Elvis enjoy himself !
DOLLY, WHITNEY, AND ELVIS'S LIVES, WE'RE BLESSED BY A BEAUTIFUL GOD GIVEN VOICE, AND LIFE , AND THE ABILITY TO MANAGE THEIR LIVES, BY WORKING HARD TO PROMOTE THEMSELVES.
Dolly is like my cousins. I have been to Dollywood and I was amazed to learn Ms. Dolly's baby Eagles. They reside on the side of a hill and US Forest Rangers decide when they are ready to be released into The Great Smoky Mountains. I had 2 cousins raise families in Knoxville, Tn. Tom Fisher of Maryville is now back with his 1st Step Father my Dad Robert H. Boyd who transitioned in 1995. My other cousin is Jimmy Boyd and yes he has a son and a beautiful daughter who is almost as beautiful as her Mother who was a fixture of UT. Tom got a degree in Civil Engineering and retired from TVA and while in retirement worked many times for FEMA. Jimmy & his wife Mary are in Powell, Tenn. Tom's wife Betty sold the big house in Maryville (next to Dollywood) and is now close to the Baptist Church in South Knoxville. They had 3 biological children: Steve the oldest is in Amherst, Mass. and they had David & Mindy who died in a sledding accident. Some time after their death Tom & Betty Jo adopted 3 children from the same family Michael, Jennifer, and ?. Not many families would do that. If not for adoption and my wonderful Clan I would be all alone. Love & Peace, Deborah
Whitney did a great power ballad with the song, but I prefer the more vulnerable, introspective reading that Dolly and Linda Ronstadt gave to I Will Always Love You.
Only she doesn't "Look Good" - there is a point when enough is enough. She was a beautiful woman now she looks like an older woman trying to hard to stay young. Plenty of GREAT female country singers have had wonderful careers without disfiguring themselves with plastic surgery.
It's what makes her happy and I find her beautiful still, not everyone likes it but its a personal choice that makes her feel better and confident so I say let her.
