I 100% agree with you. This is one soul the world needs on this crazy planet called earth. We just need to enjoy every sound that comes from this sweet wonderful woman's lips. Everyone could learn a thing or two from Dolly and if they did, the world would be a much better place.
Dolly Parton made me cry again. The magic is inside us...absolutely. Positive vibes from New Hampshire, remember to be kind to each other and yourself during these trying times.
These old bones will tell your story These old bones will never lie These old bones will tell you surely What you can't see with your eye These old bones I shake and rattle These old bones I toss and roll And it's all in where they scatter Tells you what the future holds (End chorus) Oh, she lived upon the mountain 'Leven miles or so from town With a one-eyed cat named Wink A billy goat and a blue-tick hound Her greying hair was braided And wrapped around her head And her dress was long and faded And her home a rusty shed In a little patch of burlap Tied with a piece of twine There were bones all shapes and sizes Gathered through the course of time She'd throw them out before you She swore that she could see The present, past, and future She could read your destiny Everybody knew about her Came to get their fortune read Concerning health and wealth and power Who to love and when to wed "Well, I just like helpin' people I's just glad that I could help Why, I know ev'rybody's secrets But I keep it to m'self." These old bones will tell your story These old bones will never lie These old bones will tell you surely What you can't see with your eye These old bones I shake and rattle These old bones I toss and roll And it's all in where they scatter Tells you what the future holds (End chorus) Some called her "Witchy Woman" Some said she was insane Some said she was a prophet Still everybody came "Just because a body's dif'ernt Well, that don't make 'em mad They've crucified a-many For the special gifts they've had." I had often heard about her Dreamed about her now and then For I too was clairvoyant Came about when I was ten I was fascinated with her And the things I'd heard about And I knew someday I'd meet her And one day, it came about "Well, I knowed that you's a-comin' I could feel it in my bones These old bones have also told me That I won't be here for long. Did you know that you's adopted? Did you know you oncet was mine? But the county took you from me Said I wadn't right in mind But I just knowed I had to see ye 'Fore these bones was laid to rest So I conjured up a message It musta worked, I guess This gift runs in the fam'ly I know you also know And I passed this gift on to you These old bones, they're just for show." These old bones will tell your story These old bones will never lie These old bones will tell you surely What you can't see with your eye These old bones I shake and rattle These old bones I toss and roll And it's all in where they scatter Tells you what the future holds (End chorus) I held her hand while she was dying And with the funeral through I headed on back up the mountain For Billy, Wink, and Blue And that little pouch of burlap With those bones so worn and old She gave me something special Now every time I throw These old bones will tell your story These old bones will never lie These old bones will tell you surely What you can't see with your eye These old bones I shake and rattle These old bones I toss and roll And it's all in where they scatter Tells you what the future holds (End chorus) SPOKEN: Now, I can't tell you what you want to hear I just tell you what I see It's these old bones a-talkin' Blame it on them, don't pack it on me It's just like that time that there boy died up at the sawmill Well, I knowed who done it, but I never said I knowed when somebody's a-cheatin' Or when somebody's baby's gon' be born dead 'Less somebody just plain out ast me Well, I just figger there ain't no point in Goin' 'round actin' like you know ever'thing Just 'cause you might why'know girl, you I want you to take these bones 'Cause I don't want no young'un o'mine goin' 'round unprepared You just remember that the magic is inside you There ain't no crystal ball
Dolly, I've listened and enjoyed your music for all these years and in just a few words of this song I'm getting goose bumps all over me! I grew up just a few houses farther up the hollow from a woman who had the gift. She was a much loved person in our community. Thank you for reminded me of her. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving
I've been listening to Dolly for years and years. I never could understand why this album never was on Spotify until 2020. It's such an amazing album to listen to, especially if you like bluegrass and mountain music.
I heard this a few weeks ago and gasped with pleasure. Then I heard the end of the song and cried! Yes, I cried. My Clairvoyant Medium gifts started when I was 3.5yrs old. I always tell the people who come see me that I say exactly what I hear and see!! 😊 But I don't use anything for show lol just me. Thanks for writing a song spoke to me and my gifts. 💖
It seems nice to hear a song talk about something like this I know more ppl would share their stories of things that not everyone experiences if they were not ridiculed...There is so much more to this world and reality ....quantum physics has already proved that much maybe one day all ppl will share their gifts and help give us a insight in to the things that the average eyes can’t see
Used to listen to this ALL the time with my Grandma when I was little. Whenever I stayed with her or rode with her in the car we listened to your song. Thank you Misses Parton for creating those memories for us. You are a legend and your music will not be forgotten.
I love this and listened to this over and over. The greatest story teller ever, just like Loretta! 2 of my favs. It's got to be her changing her voice though right?😂
Thank you for sharing this wonderful song! I grew up with Dolly Parton and she is as close to a saint as we'll have this go round. Her voice heals hearts and souls. This song in particular holds so much significance and love for me. Specially since it was me n my besties song. He was from Kentucky, so i always called him a "hollerwitch". We would sing this together everytime we could. Rest easy Kevbo...i miss you. These old bones were just for show ...❤
....the full-spectrum....of emotion.....delightfully....sung......in the homey charming....wholesome way...that only ....you.....beautiful.....human....timeless...Dolly.....could ever...conjure...and deliver....Love , thanks, and appreciation.........my one of a kind Dolly...xxxxxxxxx0000000000......your heart shines in storytelling.
My mama has the gift. I have a strong intuition bordering on psychic, though I would never call myself that. I know I get the gift from her. My daughter has that same strong intuition. This song is awesome :) I love it. And I love Ms. Dolly's ability to paint a picture and story with her words. Thank you Dolly Parton. One day I hope to meet you. Such a pure and lovely humble soul.
What a great song! My mom was adopted, and just a few days ago, we found her family. I have two aunt's and uncle's I didn't know about. Her family one of her and had been looking for years, and we finally found each other. We meet in the spring all as one. I'm so excited, and your song, "These old bones" took me on a similar journey. Thank you.
I see everyone saying they are here from Netflix, I’m here bc I’ve listened to Dolly since a very small child and will always do so. This song really is close to my heart and forever will be.
Love the heartstrings series; watched it for Colin and Ginny but developed a love for the whole series and even more respect for Dolly than I already had 😍
The first time I heard this I thought, This would make a great movie. Still do after a few dozen more listens. I mean nothing against "9 to 5", "I Will Always Love You", and "Jolene" but this thing is a masterpiece and far more moving to me.

These Old Bones is my favourite episode of Heartstrings... moves me so.... Kathleen Turner did Dolly proud. Dolly personally asked her to play Ms. Shaw
I adore this story song, takes me back to the day I met my queen, this was playing in the background, such happy memories of the day my dream came true
