Both saws have been wood's ported. Both sporting the same chain, bar, and 8 pin sprocket. Husky quicker as expected due to the increased capacity (approx 10cc) and extra torque. Basically you can lean on the 390 harder than the 7900 before stalling. Log relatively even in diameter so no real advantage to the Husky cutting second.

@eecho1977 Yeah the Dolmar 7900's are highly underrated by those that have never run one. Excellent saws.

No doubt - power to weight ratio is the best for Dolmar! No choice when you have to work all day with these saws!

I'm a big Dolmar 7900 fan too. I own 7 of them now. The Husky 390XP is an excellent saw as well though.

iv had both. a 7900 and a 390 are not comparable. the 7900 is a great firewood saw.and an "on occassion"timber saw.the dolmar wont hold up to everyday logging. mine had a factory defect on the intake boot.it was sucking air and running lean..and eventually burnt it up prematurely(like 3 months) a friend had a 7900 that had been run over by a skidder,but had a good jug.replaced jug and piston(thats when i found crumpled boot)so used that boot as well. and its been running great now for about 8 yrs..also went thru a coil early..not cheap) 372,390,394,395 husky are engineering perfection.iv vut millions of feet of timber w them. while my stihls stay in the shop.actually iv sold them all.every one of them.and will never own another. take it for what its worth from a guy whose cut almost 40,000 trees

walnutlogger 43 Thanks for the reply. I agree that the Husky is definitely the better professional saw and especially if you have workers who are heavy handed. Because I run my own saws I take care of them and haven't had any major issues with either the 7900's or 390XP's. Both excellent saws. I don't like that balance of the Stihl saws for falling. Too nose heavy.

I'm in Australia but all of my ported saws are built in the US. My main 7900 is running 210psi and has machining done to both the piston and cylinder. There are certainly hotter 7900's around than mine (Eric Copsey in the US builds some mean 7900's) but mine is right on the limit of being too hot for sustainable cutting. The only downside with these things is that their oiler struggles above a 32" bar :(

DOLMAR CHAIN SAW STRONG MOTOR,I'VE HAD MY 420 DOLMAR CHAIN SAW FOR 3YEARS NOW. WITH THE 18 INCH BAR I'VE CUT UP SOME BIGGER TREES I CUT TO BURN WOOD ALL WINTER WITH MY DOLMAR CHAIN SAW. IT'S DEFINITELY THE SAW I LIKE. TAMAH THOMPSON IN INDIANA

Hah hah yeah that sucks! Hey I've sinced leaned out that particular 7900 a tad (I own 3 modified ones and two modded 390 Huskys) and by leaning it out it gained even more ground on the 390XPG in the vid. All good saws. A modded 7900 will flog a stock 390. The Dolmar 7900's really are an excellent saw.

Thanks mate. It does cut pretty damn fast :) Tached at 14,000rpm no load so revs pretty well for a 90cc saw.

@mattward74, Yea im sitting there watching when you start cutting, then i pause it to see what the time it is, I get it all written down, im thinking that took a lot of work, but he will like that I did that, get to the end of the video...AHHHH!!! Oh well, Id like to get a dolmar, just for a starter saw, have that for a few years, and then get a husky or two, but i really like the dolmars after watching these videos.

Well aware of the displacement difference as I run both and have felled 1000's of trees with both. If you'd have read my description it pretty well outlined exactly what you have said. In saying that though I have a more heavily modified 7900 that will give my ported 390XP's a run for their money. Both the 390XP and 7900 are my favourite saws.
@mattward74
@mattward74 14 лет назад
Hey the Dolmars cop a bit of flak mate but basically from people that have never used them. I mean I love my 390 Huskys too, but the Dolmar 7900 is a far more impressive saw out of the box. Modified though and they are both awesome. If you do get one just make sure you buy the Heavy Duty filter kit for them, adds a bit of power but also keeps out any sort of dust you care to throw at it. The Husky 390 filters don't, I have to oil mine.
@mattward74
@mattward74 11 лет назад
Yeah both are excellent saws for sure. The filtration on the Dolmar HD setup is a lot better than the Husky but both saws have a lot of good points. The Husky has a bit more torque (nearly 10cc larger) but not much in it.

Dolmar 7900 the best saw for the best power-weight ratio on the market and i think for quality-price too........ i'm owner of 7900..... i've 385xp but 7900 run more fast.... i've 562xp and the weight in comparison to the 7900 is the same.... i've put both on the scale...... the difference is that you handle the same weight having a lot of more power with 7900..... 562 is more slim 7900 seems more fat.... The antivibe of 7900 have some problem but i can say that is a good saw like Husky and Sthil, no worst no better but have the best weight-power ratio on the market..... Only a little problem.... the vibration are more than Sthil.... You can understand better if you work hanging up on the tree all the day....

@mattward74 I def know what you mean by more torque! I also own a 5100 s my uncle bought the regular 5100 then i bought the s after using his! As for huskys to compare with the 7900.. I have used the 390,385,395 which is my stump saw! My all around favorite husky that I have owned is an older 365 with a 20'' bar great ground saw and wasn't to bad dragging up a tree when it had to!! Take care and be safe!!

Yeah I'm a big fan of both brands. I do like Stihl's smaller pro saws (200T, MS241C) but I'm not a big fan of their mid-large saws. Tough units but I don't like their balance.

@nnikosvideoclip Hi Mate. Both saws were wearing the same brand new chain. They are good saws for sure.
@mattward74
@mattward74 12 лет назад
Yeah the oilers are certainly marginal with a 32" bar even when the oilers are running properly. I own two 7900's and have owned 3 at one stage and they all only "just" delivered what I would class as enough oil for a 32" bar. That is one of the very few faults with these saws. I do love the Huskys as well though :)
@mattward74
@mattward74 12 лет назад
There wasn't as much pressure being put on it as you probably think. They can take a lot more than I dish out :)
@mattward74
@mattward74 11 лет назад
It would struggle to catch the 390XP but wouldn't be too hard to match the 7900 in this video. You have to be careful not to push it too far as a dedicated race 372 will be way faster than both of these saws but wouldn't hold up in a work environment. One of my newer Dolmar 7900's is right there with the 390XP in this video but is borderline too hot as a work saw.

@mattward74
@mattward74 14 лет назад
@25jlive Yeah I did muscle the Husky a bit more than the 7900 because it has the torque to handle it. I'm a big Dolmar fan too, I own a few modified 7900's and a 5100-S, but the 7900's have nowhere near the grunt of a modded 390XP. As far as tree felling goes they both feel as well balanced as each other. What Huskys have you used to compare to a 7900?
@Choice777
@Choice777 6 лет назад
that's why such a test should be done with weights. fix the handle to a rotating support and the and like 30kg plates hanging to the from handle under the saw, on both saws, and see which one cuts faster. with a manual approach you're not gonna put the same weight even if you try.
@mattward74
@mattward74 11 лет назад
Nah I think anything above a 32" bar is a bit long for a 7900 anyway. Above that I'll grab my ported 390XP :)

Husqvarna will outlast any dolmar on the block. I have ran saws of all kinds in the logwoods for 20 years and I have to say husky may not be the fastest saws on the block but they sure as hell last a super long time and can always rely on them to do their job. Husky wins.
@mattward74
@mattward74 10 лет назад
I definitely like Husqvarna saws. No doubt about it. The Dolmar build quality is right up there though running Mahle internals etc. German made as well. I have heard that there were early issues with antivibe mounts breaking but this was probably from heavy handed operators. I've put thousands of hours on Dolmars and Husqvarnas and never had any major problems with either brand.

dolmar: seconds were about 10, 9, 11, 8, and 9...avg.9.4 seconds husky: seconds were about 9, 8, 8, 9, 10 avg 8.8 seconds thats pretty good, pretty good for the dolmar considering its about 10 CCs smaller. just noticed you timed them yourself...lol, took all that time to time them for nothing haha.

"easily beat A stihl" Totally man! For example, the Husky 240 will eat the MS 660 alive.
@shinyokoyama8470
@shinyokoyama8470 4 года назад
A stinl ms660 will cut a log and a husky 240 in half before a Husky 240 couls get half way thru the same log. You are talking MS660 is one of the badest saws made its like 93cc and the husky 240 is not even a pro saw and come in a whopping 40cc and if its like most huskys that size its made by poulan. And all I do is fix chainsaws. I am not a big Stihl fan even tho they are made really good and have lots of power.You want to compete with a Stihl MS660 with a husky and maybee beat it move up to a husky394xp or a 395xp. I prefer the 395xp because its easier to get parts for well I should say aftermarket engine parts. Because its imposible to find aftermarket engine parts for a 394xp and you could get a quality piston rings and cylinder for a 395 xp for around 50 bucks and you dont want to buy OEM for like 250 bucks. These aftermarket parts the quality is getting very good. I give customers a choice 50 bucks + labor or 250 pluse labor for OEM and I have never had one go the 250 route and I have never had any complaints.

everyone has there own preference we ran huskys for 20 plus years in real hardwood hard maple etc and no 372 ever kept up to a 7900 dolmar never in hardwood if you say they do youre either full of shit or dont know what hardwood is, although we did have alot of carb issues with the first 7900 dolmars as for longevity about 1 year on each if you run a saw all day evry day for a year there shot

You do realise Joe that this is a 390XP in the video not a 372XP? Both are ported. Sorry if I misunderstood your comment but it sounded like you assumed it was a 372 vs. 7900 in the video. I've run a number of 372's as well and they simply don't have the nuts of a 7900 out of the box.
