@@r_be I’m trying to figure out which rifugios (mountain huts) to stay at the next time I visit. I’d like to stay at fully service mountain lodges at the top of the chairlifts.
Wow what a video, just subscribed. Me and my friend are going to Dolomites for the very first time since it's on our Ikon pass. It's taken us so long to do research on this place lol, kinda hard to find information. Our plan is to fly from JFK to MXP. Then we are going to stay in Selva Di Val Gardena. We just booked our place, almost everything reasonable in price was sold out for February and March 2025 which seemed surprising to me, not sure if that is a normal occurence where you have to book a year in advance. Some resorts in Corvara were the same price, but we chose not to stay there as it would be a longer drive. Speaking of a long drive, we might stay a night at Lake Garda after arriving in MXP just to cut our drive in half. Not sure how bad the drive is. I see you took the train and bus from MXP, how long did it take you? Would you recommend a new traveler to do that or is it kinda complex? Thanks.
@@MountainMitchYT Dude, your channel is professional! I’m just an amateur. 🤣 You’ve already booked your accommodation, but a couple suggestions - most places have a one week minimum, so if you search for 5 nights, your results may be limited. It can be cheaper to book for 7 nights than 5 nights, which seems crazy. It’s common for accommodation to charge double for 2 people so it’s $100 for one person and $200 for two people. I’ve had decent luck using bookingsuedtirol.com as western sites like Booking.com and Hotels.com are significantly more expensive (but you may have protection against cancellations, etc). Best bet is to use Google maps and find hotels in the village you are looking at and email them directly - you can save hundreds, and in some cases thousands. A lot of places do book up early during the ski season. Val Gardena is awesome! Love the village and love the location. I’ve never driven in Italy, but the trains/buses are so convenient and good, that I wouldn’t drive to the Dolomites unless I was bringing a lot of luggage and my own ski/snowboarding gear. MXP is an hour by metro to Milan. MXP is about 6 hours by train and bus to Val Gardena depending on how late you arrive at MXP. Lake Garda, Verona, and Trento would all be good places to stay if you need to break up your trip for a night. I love traveling Europe by train. As a new traveler I would definitely travel by train because you’re not going anywhere that you couldn’t access by train and bus. If you were visiting the Dolomites in the summer and wanted to explore the whole region, then I’d suggest renting a car (though traffic is also brutal). Train travel isn’t hard as Google maps will give you the best travel info and you’ll find WiFi around stations, McDonalds (the Golden Arches are everywhere), and cafes.
