One word : Underrated.

this movie was amazing. It’s 2021 and this epic drama thriller beats hands down all the garbage that’s been pumped out these past years.

The transitions from past to present in this film were incredibly well done. It gives this movie a tension that builds as multiple plots unfold. You can feel the dread and lost hope that both the mother and daughter have lived with for most of their lives. With their secrets and revelations revealed, we are finally able to see their ever-present yet underlying bond. In the end, acceptance and redemption prevail.

Kathy Bates should have been nominated for Best Actress and Judy Parfitt for Best Supporting Actress for this movie!

I seriously wish that movie trailers could win Academy Awards. This is one of the best trailers I have ever seen in my life. First encountered it when I was a kid while watching Letterman late at night, and it chilled me to the bone. The fact that this trailer still leaves the same impact all these years later -- yeah, it's a masterpiece of marketing.

I remember this trailer on the VHS to City Slickers 2 as a kid the trailer itself to me was intense, full suspense and dramatic, the tone of the music gave off sad vibes of depression and trauma, it was a perfect for this film I miss the 90s..they don't make films like this anymore.

This great movie was filmed on my parents property...they built a long driveway, fake house etc...

I just watched this movie again recently after not having watched it for probably almost 20 years. I really forgot what a truly great movie this is. I´ve always had a crush on Jennifer Jason Leigh LOL 😄 but she really does a great job in this movie too. But to be honest one of the greatest peformances in this movie was by David Strathairn.

I just saw it and I have to say that Kathy Bates was really brilliant in this film.

The name of the score track used in this trailer is: "She's Dead" and we finally have it on the Intrada release of the Ordinary People soundtrack. If you love this music, go get a copy!

Sundial83 I agree. I'll never forget the first time I saw this trailer back in 1995. It was one of the previews on the Wolf vhs tape. The music, the pacing, the well scene all chilled me with anticipation. Extremely underrated film with an exceptional trailer.

Watched this with mom back in 1995 i was 15 years old then.. i am 43 years old now in 2023, My mom was 45 dueing that time.

This movie came out the same year as Misery or it would have been a STAPLE in American movies. This movie is one of the most underrated classics in movie history. It's hard to go up against Misery, another Kathy Bates classic. These 2 women MAKE this a classic.

I think Ellen Muth (who played young Selena) doesn't get enough praise for her performance in this movie. She was excellent.

My drawing instructor from NSCAD U Marilyn MacAvoy worked on this film. I remember her telling me she hand painted dishes for it etc. She was also the Art Director for Titanic side by side with James Cameron. Dolores Claiborne was filmed in Nova Scotia as well, where I still reside. Kathy Bates is one of the best actors of all time. Period.

Fantastic story and fantastic acting.

By golly, the script, direction and acting in this film is heartbreaking. It may seem like an overreach but I referred to this on my therapy after certain events in my youth became unfolding.

I watch this movie 1 or 2 a day i love both kathy bates and jennifer jason leigh.

I love how King did this from a woman’s view of things. Takes care of everyone just to be used, abused and treated as if she were nothing and what the woman is capable of when’s she’s had it! Be careful how you treat women fella’s. Some of us you need to just not even try it, every woman has a gift men should be terrified of. 💯

Just got the book today. After I read Revival I plan to read this and Gerald’s Game. Can’t wait to experience them!!

Why aren’t there more articles written about this movie, about the production, about the fact that the movie used Kodak film stock for one time period and Fuji for another, where’s the analysis about its portrayal of PTSD? Where’s the super special anniversary DVD Blu Ray 4K etc? Even when it came it out it was criminally under appreciated (minus TNT who used to run at 3hrs because they would come back from commercial breaks with Kathy Bates really giving some great commentary), EW gave it a freakin “D!” I saw it opening weekend and the audience was, if not packed, full and seemed receptive all the right parts (the place erupted when she told the bank guy about kicking his butt up to hunchback status). Not only is it a perfect contemporary (for its time) update on the old schools Women’s Pictures like Mildred Pierce right down to its full name title, it’s a good movie period.

The book is wonderful. I read it in one night. One of King's shorter novels, and not necessarily easier to read, but a real page turner.

IDK if it's the melody that's the same, but the Trailer Music sounds exactly like the Theme from the 1988 version of 'Childs Play'.

The background music sounds so much like the end credits music from the original Child's Play movie.

Jennifer Jason Leigh also played one of Lisey Landon’s sisters in the Apple TV miniseries, Lisey’s Story. She’s a criminally underrated talented actress.

This film was well put together, dealing with themes of trauma and abuse, PTSD, fragmented memory from sexual abuse, a mother trying to protect her daughter. Delores Claiborne is a woman who's trapped in an endless cycle of abuse that she can't escape. This is not a revenge thriller, but a film about justice, a woman who's worked hard her whole life, trapped in a Catch 22 and loses her mind when the system fails her and she has nowhere to turn to. A sad, but necessary book and film. One of Steven King's best.

Is it just me or the theme they put for the trailer is very similar of the "Child's play" (1988) main theme ? (You can also hear it in its trailer). Are they from the same compositer ?

I was there during filming. My in-laws house was in the background scenes. They wrote the solar eclipse into the film as it coincided with the shooting schedule. Great movie.
