This had me laughing too hard. I think maybe they were just trying to cover its eyes to calm it down or to try to make it hard for it to bite them. And maybe it was mostly women on the boat at first who were afraid of getting injured by it considering it weighs hundreds of pounds and was thrashing around. I think people are thinking they are lighter than they are because they're cute or something. That's the most charitable interpretation. They could have been dumb too and that's often the answer nowadays.

The running out of time part was overly dramatic but they were smart to use the wet towel to keep the skin from drying out. Not as smart in placing it over the blow hole vs mainly the eyes (so it wouldn’t be so scared and hit them when they approached) but dolphins can hold their breath for a really long time so it wasn’t as bad of a mistake for they time it would take to lift it out the boat.

They got a dolphinatarian award from the dolphin society.

The dolphin was in shock, it just had the wind knocked out of it, then its blowhole was covered by the wet t-shirt so it couldn't breathe... this is why it was prostrate.

Well, it is a very muscular, slippery animal whipping around a 300+ lb. body. That said, they did react really slowly.

And knowing not to cover the blowhole is also handy to know, especially for the animal...

They needed help from experienced workers. Otherwise the landlubber tourists would be lifting a heavy, slippery, and panicking animal with only two points of contact (their feet) on a wet fiberglass boat. If anyone was hit by its tail, they could be injured. If anyone lost their grip, or slipped while carrying the dolphin, they risk hurting themselves AND the dolphin. If any tourists were injured, the tour boat guides could get sued for endangerment.

A Caribbean bottlenose dolphin is 500 - 600 lbs., the Pacific bottlenose dolphin approx 250 - 300 lbs. And they are pretty slippery.

That dolphin was thrashing around a lot, I have no doubt it could have broken bones if they weren't careful. Can't blame them for being nervous handling a wild animal.

The dolphins looked to be Roughhousing/fighting and scrapping over something. At 1stvi thought it was running from orca but all their fins looked of similar size so maybe it was just rivalling pods.

ONLY ONE PERSON WAS FILMING IDIOT and the rest were SCARED and first of all they weren't filming the dolphin STUCK in the boat they were filming the dolphins BEFORE THE DOLPHIN GOT STUCK IN THE BOAT

No kidding, who can think about filming at a time like this? There were enough people in the first boat to pick up the small dolphin and put it back in the water. People are so attached to their electronics it's ridiculous.
