Lol that’s pretty epic. I know a thing or two about bending your instrument’s will to play notes it wasn’t meant to play. Saxophone had a thing called altissimo and I play tenor, which is lower than the alto in the song, so I have to play most of the song in altissimo which I personally can only go up like two half notes reliably right now. I think it’s cool that people have developed ways to make their instruments do what they want. In violin I think if you lay your finger very lightly on the string(as opposed to pushing down) it’ll play a high note. I don’t know that one for sure though, as I only played violin in school for three years
@@SavvySaxy I find the misnomer that altissimo is something that the instrument “isn’t suppose to do” isn’t truly a good way of looking at it. Adolph Sax put in his manuscripts that he fully intended the instrument to have an altissimo register, similar to a clarinet, so to say that it wasn’t supposed to is a bit misguided imo. It was certainly harder to develop, especially when the instrument had just been invented, since the harmonic series is entirely different than a clarinet, not much really written for it, and not much pedagogy of the instrument existed. That really changed around when Sigurd Rascher and to a lesser extent, Marcel Mule, really refined, defined, and methodized the concept of altissimo as the aural, musical, and conceptual aspects of the instrument. With their major successes in performance and pedagogy, a lot more people wrote for saxophone and thus with that came more altissimo writing. Long story short, altissimo was intended by Adolph Sax but wasn’t done at a high level/written for decades when it was refined. Sorry for the rant, hope you might find it interesting :)
I'd argue the recorder one is far more impressive. Bassoon is a very hard instrument but at the end of the day it's an orchestral instrument with complex keywork allowing it to play fluently in any key with a lot of chromaticism. It's a pretty agile instrument if you get decent practice on it. That's NOT the case with recorder, to play chromatically you have to finagle the notes with half holing and forked fingerings (yeah bassoon has that too but not as much as recorder).
the recorder is in fact a real instrument, as shown here. it's just that most recorder players you'll hear are children who have no real interest to learn how to play
Nope literally two octaves only. But this is actually an alto recorder I believe. You don't really need altissimo on recorder because if you wanted to go higher you could on a soprano recorder for only like $10... instead of quite a bit more for a new soprano sax....
This is why I am signing my 5 year old up for kids lessons. Sure, they make great cheap toys for kids, but you can definitely play real music on it. So I’m fine if she decides to stick with it or give up after a month.
Very nice! Try to watch your dynamics. A good rule- the faster you play the softer, the higher watch the volume, same with very bottom. Keep up your amazing work
Recorders don't have dynamics because changing your dynamics bends your pitch. Recorders get around this by having several different recorders because the higher notes are louder and the lower notes are quieter. For him to play softer he would need to switch to a alto or soprano for certain parts which is completely unrealistic.
