I was at this. He gave one of the best motivational speeches I have ever been in attendance of. Before he played he explained how much he loves his new HHX setup, and the benefits of playing open handed. This isn't a conventional rock solo, nor should it be compared to one.
knows the instrument has excellent technique, knows how the get the sounds he wants out of the various pieces of the instrument. love that cymbal riff at the beginning. top notch peace )
Dom is 1 of the drumming masters, his sense of time, sound, colors and style make him unique. Dom knows how to constuct solos, what and what not to play, it's why this man can can hold master drum classes throughout the world. And BTW Doms a nice dude as well.
I love Dom, I`ve seen lot of videos with him... He is great... Solo - very nice... It`s very great with balance... One of the most awesome solos I`ve ever heard.... THANX FOR YOU DOM!!!
so true! i think regardless of style and even maybe instrument this guy will leave you breathless hes just a musical inspiration to everyone... and seems to be the nicest guy to walk the planet! ha
@Fartermcfart67 hes actually very good in technique, but he isnt known for his drumming hes known for his teaching, he is one of the best instructors out there, he knows and has developed many techniques
I live a block away from him. I'm good friends with his son :) Trust me, his style is a lot different than others. And he can literally beat you down with the drums sticks. He's a legend
@elrojomuerto6x he's a great drummer with a very unique style, but some of his motions are fulminant and a little bit aggressive, he's playing like a punisher :)
This show was in São Paulo in Brazil in a festival called Batuka! Brasil International Drum Fest! Dom Famularo played there 07/18/2010 with John Riley (EUA), Fernando Amaro (BR) and Christiano Rocha (BR). I was there and was a great show. He's Very Good! And i could get his autograph.
You may be right about the musician part but his solos are sooo tasteful and full of finesse and I tend to forget about his studio experience. Take Dennis Chambers for example he has a black hole of a pocket and he has been on albums that my parents grew up listening to but everybody loves him for his chops and fast solos....
i have some points to make about this guy. 1 he is a really nice guy i met him at drummer live this year. 2 he does some really wierd things sort of like a puppet lol (amazin tho he is) 3. he looks so much like my maths teacher its scary
@mschmidt163 with dom i would imagine its a feel thing with him. hes such an emotion based drummer. He is a morller technician but i would imagine he goes with whatever works based upon the situation,
Seriously? Dom is not only a Sabian endorser, but one of their top spokespersons. He can have all the cymbals he wants just by asking. Why would he even NEED to steal a cymbal?
I actually agree with you skinnymoo....im not a big fan of this solo either... i think he can do much better. There weren't many things covered in that solo, to consider it godly..
good work DOM ;).....you are the best ! ! ! but my drum solo is inspired by steve smith :) look and comment thansk people.....p.s i use muffle for my drum kit....:)
I can't think of any. I remember when i was studying with a student of his, Dean Sanderson in NJ, he said Journey made him an offer in the late 80s and he turned it down. Other than that, I have no idea except for a handful of one-off shows.
Even if you are not playing against a metronome you could still be off. Like if i was playing a standard rock-beat and accidentally played a flam between my bassdrum and hi-het and my snare and hi-hat
here's what I think: is there a single video on youtube, where famularo plays with a band? He's only playin' drum battles or solos or maybe clinics. NOT A SINGLE VIDEO ABOUT BANDPLAYING. NO GROOVE.
They know how to do all that difficult stuff, but they don't need to let everybody know. They know. that's what matters - go to the olympic games for drummers all you "best drummers in the world" - it's goin' the wrong way. cheers
He may be a great teacher, a wonderful technician and so on... i know. BUT: DRUMMIN' is no competition. Drummin is not about who is faster, louder or more artistique. It's about music - all these youtube drummers, havein' thousands of drums, pedals and cymbals - what are you doing? why are max roach, tony williams, buddy rich, steve gadd, vinnie collaiuta and all the others considered to be the idols of zillions of drummers? Because what the do is not playin' drums, THEY PLAY MUSIC.
