Hi Teresa, I'm really sorry... i forget how far down it was. I give away the bag to my relative, so i can't measure it for you. But i think it should be different depends on the type of the handles. I suggest to first place down the handles and find the best fit, before starting to sew it. The seam allowance is 1cm. :)
