You're the BEST! Just got a 2021 Forest River Wildwood. Only been in it for 5 days, and noticed the problem within 3 days! We did what you showed on your video yesterday....and ALL IS GOOD! It could have been so bad if we waited longer! Thank you!
Thanks! I was able to fix my gaskets/ seals due to your video. My oval seal was pretty nasty, but after cleaning it as best as I could, my cake decorating skills came in handy on the tube of caulk. The round gasket had actually been twisted! I was lucky to not have had the awful odor, but thanks to your video, it's one less thing I have to worry about.!
We bought a 2020 camper a couple years ago and started getting this gross odor this year. I called Dometic and because we've had our camper for more than a year, they would only send the replacement seals for the 300 model. Going to do the replacement this week. But, I'm definitely going to caulk those seals in, so we don't have the same issue in a couple of years. Thanks for the video!
We bought our FunFinder 27BH brand new in June 2018, and camped regularly until Texas State Park closures this spring. Since resuming camping in June, we’ve been overwhelmed with a rank old pee smell that surface cleaning can’t remove. We use plenty of water and I’ve used the external spray system to flush out the black tank, but smell returns. After reading several RV forum threads, I’m replacing the Dometic 300 toilet with a Thetford Aqua Magic V RV Toilet Hand Flush - High Profile.
Year later and having the same issue. Sham on them for not fixing this known issue!!! If it can be resolved, the manufacture should have resolved or redesigned it!!!
Great video!! have a 2018 keystone Bullet 248 RKS. Found this disgusting problem and took the toilet apart and did all you did and more!!! I also talked to Kendra at Dometic and sent in the paper work/documentation and hope they send me a new toilet!! Thanbks again!!
Dometic won't even talk to their customers about warranty replacement as of September 16, 2020. They pawn you off on their authorized service centers which want nothing to do with you. Absolutely no customer service on Dometic's part. I'll fix mine using the method you showed on this video. Thanks. You're great. Dometic SUCKS!
Here's how Dometic warranty service works. Call Dometic. They tell you to go to a dealer. You go to a dealer. The dealer calls Dometic. Dometic says send pictures. You give the dealer pictures and they send them to Dometic. Even though the unit is still under warranty, Dometic says the unit is too old, and there was probably some user abuse. Warranty denied.
Thanks, just did this, hoping it works. Dometic is "closed" for the holidays, hopefully their still sending replacements. Its really disgusting that they didn't do a recall on these.
Thank you for the video. Heaven forbid that a 2018 model-year anything hold up or be properly assembled with appropriate grease. Wish Toyota made a travel trailer....
I wish I would have found this video before I removed and tilted my toilet inside the camper....🤢. I figured it was just the seal on the floor and then made the same discovery as here on the video. I fumbled through and did the exact same things sealing the same places stressing that I was either fixing it on making it worse, glad to see that I hopefully fixed it.
I followed this video to the “T”. If I could post a pic of what the inside of my toilet looked like 🤢, definitely the problem. Now we have to wait a few months to see if it solves the problem but I’m very confident it has.
Bingo! My unit is a 300 series but the bottom bowl base was glued at the area where it’s clipped. And mine only has two screws securing not five. Solved the problem. I did use silicone on both sides of the o-ring and gasket. Thanks.
Thank you for this video. My husband and I own a 2108 Keystone Bullet since June 2018 and just this past weekend discovered the horrid smell upon return. We have boys and trust me I'm used to bad odors, but THIS, this was death!! We followed your detailed video and were horrified at what we found!! Dometic won't deal with us. They are sending a repair kit to a local rv dealer by us. We weren't able to bring our RV in because we couldn't get an appt until the end of November. We can't even upgrade the toilet to any other model due to the measurements. So basically, we are stuck with this model. For those that did the repair...did you wait for the silicone to dry before putting the toilet back together or did you just put it back immediately after using the silicone? Also, should we wait 24 hours before giving it a trial run? Thank you! Praying this really fixes the problem - I really enjoy our indoor / private toilet!!
The O-ring is what failed on ours. that O-ring became dislodged and was poking out into the drain hole. I thought about doin this repair, and it probably works fine, but decided I didn't want to ever have this happen again, so we just upgraded to the 310.
@@mariaesch572 think he immediately put it all together. It’s like working on car engine gaskets. You put a sealing bead of RTv gasket sealer on the existing surface to seal it better.
How do I know if this is my model? The sticker says rv 169098 then iapmo ts 1-2011e1. Smells aren't horrid, but noticed. And we've only had it for 4 trips.
I bought a dometic toilet, within a few months the flush system failed, shortly after that the spout on the cassette fell off and went down the sewage dump point. The slide on the toilet is always very stiff and I'm worried it's going to snap, ill be in trouble if that happens, Always trying to lubricate the mechanism but it doesn't help, won't be able to use it, having enough trouble repairing the issues now. Contacted dometic and they didn't seem to give a dam about the problems. Looks like i may have to throw this $700 one out and buy a decent toilet.
Well.....I just found your video and off to the hardware store I went.....inside was full of you know what....and to think I have been blaming my son for missing the toilet, I guess we will have to see together how the repair works...I also added a line of silicone right above the black ring on the inside of the toilet,,there is a small gap there...I just ran my finger around and filled it in.....I will report back as well......
I'm thinking about purchasing a Dometic 300 Series Standard Height Toilet but I am hearing that they leak a lot brand new, now I am nervous about buying one
@@Sshooter444 can't get ANY wrenches or sockets back there, it's in a corner no room to turn a wrench, bolts too tall to fit deep socket under flusher arm. About to remove this thing with a crowbar and aluminum bat. NEVER AGAIN. Thetford or nothing.
The toilet empties into the holding tank via gravity and a direct chute. I don't understand how you could get flow around and by that rectangular seal, unless you let the holding tank completely fill up. And that would certainly explain an odor problem!
This is exactly what I am getting ready to do. Did it fix the issue? It's next to impossible to find a replacement toilet and Dometic recently stopped replacing them for free.
Yup. I had 2 trailers both 2014 wildwood with Thetford and ZERO issues. Got a class c now 2014 coachman and this dometic is JUNK. The trap door is crooked so I can't make a water seal to keep out the smell from the tank. Last trip was 4 days full hookups but smelled the site tanks for ALL 4 DAYS. done. This is getting ripped out and trashed. Absolute JUNK.
Just spoke with Dometic, if you have this issue this is what you need to do and it will save you even calling them which is a very long wait. You will email customersupportcenter@dometic.com Provide them a picture of the Serial Plate Tag Bill of Sale of your camper (2 year warranty on the toilet) Full Name and Address (PO Box will not work) UPS is the shipper Color of the toilet either Bone or White Provide the description of the issue you are having with the unit. Which is probably why you're here already. Enjoy your new free toilet.
