On a routine ‘on the drive’ check of the caravan I found our fridge wouldn’t connect to gas. Went to RU-vid search and yours came up. Thanks for posting this and explaining in simple terms (helpful to a newbie) what to do. Fridge is now working again on gas should we need it. Happy days 👍🏼
Hi Johannes, We’re delighted you found our video helpful & our tip resolved your bleeping fridge issue. Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
Thank you very much, been very stressed out due to go on holiday with new motor home but couldn’t get fridge to work on gas, went through the reset procedure twice, as you showed on your video and much to my relief it came on, the joy of seen a steady blue light.😃 Thanks Lee.
Hi Lee, That’s excellent news 👍🏻 We’re delighted you found our video helpful & the reset worked perfectly for you. Sending our best wishes, Keith & Michele.
Thanks so much. Swift basecamp electric onsite went off last night and fridge would not go onto gas. Tried this morning after watching your reset and hey presto it went into a steady gas light immediately, so cheers👍big thumbs up from us
Thank you so much, Keith! Loved your video. You are a life savior, or at least a food savior... Why is this not the first thing mentioned in the manual?!?
Legend!! Have been stuffing around cluelessly for 2 hours, and after a few mins of your video I am now saved!! Thankyou very much! For others reference, on the Dometic RMDX21 model, you hold the warning (exclamation mark) button in for 3 seconds to do the reset.
Thank you for thr educational video!! ❤ stranded in the mountains with a fridge that wasn't working. You saved me a long trip, lots of money aswell. Do you have a book you recommend for rv knowledge??
Keith, you’re a life saver! We had our van from new in 2019 and had never used the gas on the fridge. It only came to light when we pulled up at a services and had lunch in the van, the bleeping drove us crazy as the gas wouldn’t light. Did your simple reset and hey presto! A tip for long journeys if you’re taking some frozen foods with you. We wrap everything up in tin foil and also put 4 ‘ice packs’, the sort you’d put in a picnic cooler bag. It helps to maintain the temperature, especially on hot days.
Hi Robin, Absolutely delighted the reset solved your problem, that’s great to hear. Great tip as well, thank you so much for sharing 👍🏻 Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
This was excellent advice. Seriously. Thank you for this short but helpful video. Ditto what this commenter says. Necessary info about the DC setting requiring the car be connected.
Hi Nick. Delighted you found our video useful and have managed to get yours working again. Many thanks for watching, sending our best wishes, Keith & Michele
Searched google ‘reset dometic fridge’ for our new fridge and this video was the first google result, already positioned at 5:58… thanks for another great tip as always Keith & Michelle, hope you’re making lots of plans for the upcoming Northern Summer (autumn here in New Zealand, hot sunny days, heater on at night!!)
Thank you so much for this video. We had a power cut in the middle of Italy and I COULDN’T FOR LOVE OR MONEY get the DAMN FRIDGE TO WORK. I followed your instructions & hey presto it worked 1st time. The dealer told me the fridge didn’t have a gas function. He must have thought I was stupid or something….
Fantastic demo mate... thanks. Mine is same as yours, and running on electricity. I tried what you said and reset it, and yes, it did start cooling again over night, but this morning it stopped again and even though on high, it refuses to freeze anything and the freezer fins are not even cold. When working proper they are really cold to touch. It could be coincidence, but it seemed to stop when I turned on my electric heater 1000w. As if it was not getting enough power, I will again reset and see what happens. Problem is it takes about 4+ hours to test if its working as there is no sound like normal fridges.
Came back to report. I reset it once more s instructed here, and I lowered the nose of my caravan 2 inches to make it perfectly level and its now been going perfect for 18 hours... so I guess it is fixed. Not sure if it was the second reset or leveling that did id. Thanks for everything... its good to know this reset trick.
Great video . Information is better than the instruction booklet received with the caravan and so relevant regarding the battery as it could be misleading that the leisure battery could support the fridge, which obviously it couldn't due to the power required to run the fridge. 👍
Thanks SO much for posting this video. I was sure that I was going to have to take our new Bailey caravan fitted with the same fridge for warranty repair… nothing about this in the fridge documentation. Ours wouldn’t clear the fault warning after a gas bottle ran out and a new full one connected. Very relieved our long weekend away rescued!
Many thanks that just did the trick so helpful will be able to keep the beers cold at Oulton Park now 😅 and we had this issue, all fixed thanks to you 😊
Your video has just reminded me to check as we have not used the fridge on gas but just had it in for it's first service so sure it would have been checked, but will test on next trip, its got a fault on the outside of the door anyway on warranty gets a cold patch and condensation on the outside of the door. Hope you 2 are fine
Brilliant. Just checked mine for 10 minutes as advised, luckily all fine. Always on hook up so never checked but auto will switch to gas if site electric fails so worth trying.
Hi Keith , thanks for that information not seen it anywhere else wish we had known about it when we set off on our seven month retirement tour of Europe last year , our fridge smaller one to yours would not work on gas the whole holiday. 😎😬👍
Thank you so much!! You really saved us with this video! Insane but true is that this information is nowhere to be found in the users manual. Again, thank you!! We are so thankful for this video. ❤️
Many thanks Graham, You & Mandy must be getting so excited, only a few weeks until you collect your new 650 🥳 Sending our best wishes to you both, Keith & Michele.
@@keithandmichele Thank you. Yes excited but oddly nervous. I’ve been towing for 15 years and never had someone crash into me before, so likelihood of it happening again are slim. Think get that first tow out of the way and I’ll be fine 🤔
You’ll be absolutely fine Graham, you’re an experienced caravaner, the accident wasn’t your fault & the chances of that happening again, like you say, are so low. Think of it as getting back in the saddle after falling off the horse 🤗
Keith & Michele …..off grid???? What’s the world coming to ? Have you forsaken us for the dark side? 😂😂😂 Nevertheless…Very informative and timely Keith ! We Arrived on site here in North Wales yesterday and being warm decided to put fridge on gas as it cools quicker than mains. Our fridge is Thetford and after a minute reverted to an error with code 9 This signifies gas not staying alight - so quick on and off and try again and fridge stayed on gas . Basically air in system As ever a well put together vlog with Michele handling all the really difficult stuff with professional ease as you do the easy piece to camera Best wishes Howard & Sandra x
Hi Howard & Sandra, It was a first & very brief experience for us….certainly haven’t got plans to do it again any time soon 😜 Delighted you managed to get your fridge sorted, that’s excellent news. Have a fabulous time in North Wales, catch up soon. Sending all our best wishes to you both, Keith & Michele xxx
Hi Both Thought I would just let you know that this Video as proved helpful, Easter weekend we arrived on site and electric was paid for on a card that you have to purchase separately! Whilst waiting for the owner to arrive with these cards the auto tried to connect the fridge on gas and you guessed it ERROR 🥴 like you we use our van on hook up most of the time. I found this video and tried the reset today and hey presto we have gas power on fridge!! Thank you
Hi Mark, We’re delighted you found our video helpful & managed to resolve the problem 👍🏻 Hope you had a great weekend, sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
just a point about the battery symbol. These fridges are fitted to motorhomes too, hence why they use a battery symbol. Its never disconnected from the battery in a MH. Perhaps misleading for caravan owners although still valid, as if the car is disconnected the alarm is indicating no power from the battery (which is correct). Also, in case any one else finds it useful, I just had the gas error (E50) on my new dometic fitted last year. First time I tried to use it this year (today) it just kept alarming. Had gas to hobs and heating system. Switching the fridge on and off a few times and clearing the error as you showed in this video didnt get rid of it either. I resolved it by holding the purge button in for 10 secs on the gas bottle (even though i had already proved there was gas supply to hobs and heating). So worth trying a purge even if you've proved there is gas to the hob. Thanks for your videos and happy camping!
Thankyou, Just about to leave for 2 months in the Alps and when I unplugged the hookup his same error happened. We've been away in the van using gas for the last 3 weeks and just popped home for a 4 day turnaround so left the fridge full and on 240v.
Delighted you found our video helpful DG Bene, hopefully this will rectify the problem. Many thanks for watching, sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
Hi Keith and Michele Another good informative video never even given it a thought about running the fridge on gas as you say I always leave mine on auto . so tried on gas today all works fine so after running it on gas for 10 mins I then switched back to auto and ran that for about half hour on electric . Then got thinking let’s see if it auto changes to gas if electric power is disconnected the auto symbol on fridge changed to gas could hear the sparks to ignite the gas but then fridge went into alarm . With the gas symbol flashing and gas not igniting 🤔 took fridge off auto and manually pressed on to gas fridge ignited and gas started up . Will have to mention this when van goes into have its service week after next . Keep up the good work guys all the best and another great video that ain’t making me spend all of Hazel’s house keeping money 😂😂😜😜 See you guys hopefully soon Mark and Hazel
Hi Mark & Hazel, Many thanks for your kind words, we hope you get this issue sorted 👍🏻 Hope you’re both well & enjoying some trips in the caravan. Sending our best wishes to you all, Keith & Michele xxx
What a life saver -I had just had my caravan serviced, we went away the next day and every time the power dropped the 'blinking' noisy alarm went off because it wasn't working on gas. I called my caravan supplier (they promised it was working when it left them!!) and they got me messing about with the control panel to no avail. Then said I would have to fetch it in - 100 mile round trip. Anyway I looked at your Video and hey presto my fridge now works on gas. Why isn't this in the manual and why didn't my 5* service know about it ??? Come on Swift!!
Hi Andy, We’re delighted you found our video helpful & managed to resolve the problem without having to do a 100 mile round trip! Many thanks for watching, sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
Great video as always. We do quite a bit of off grid caravanning, probably around 5/6 times a year ( due to my hobby) so haven't had this problem probably because of this as you said Keith. Nice to know what to do if it ever happened.
We've never used our fridge on gas so just tried it and it wouldn't work. Did what you said then hey presto it all fired up. Thanks Keith & Michelle another fantastic informative video. But then again we wouldn't expect anything less from you guys. Love to you both Xxx
Many thanks for your kind words, as always, Elaine 🤗 We’re delighted you found our video helpful & got your fridge running on gas 👍🏻 Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele xxx
Hi, this fridge was excellent and the freezer section equally as good. You may wish to try your fridge on gas for a short while to see if that makes any difference. Also, may be worth purchasing a fridge/freezer thermometer to see if both are reaching the correct temperature. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele
Hi Colin, Many thanks for watching, we’ve also had frozen tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce etc 😆 Hope you’re having a great season, sending all our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele x
Enjoying your videos down here in West Aussie.....but just a point you made Keith about 12v (car input) operation....I dont know if the Dometic "ice cream cookers" over there are different to ours, but on 12v the fridge runs unregulated via the panel controls. This is because as you travel you go up hills and down, twist and turn and these inclinations turn the fridge off and back on ( only like operating on level ground), so no requirement for panel regulation. However here in Australia, travelling across places like the Nullabor Plain, hundreds of kilometers of flat road, constant 12v fridge feed results in lettuce and cucumber popsicles, so we are aware of this and physically turn the fridge off for a while, depending on the ambient temps in the van, then on again. I have actually installed dash board switches and relays to enable the drivers to do this whenever they wish ( or remember.....remember what?) Because of this, the majority of newer vans and RVs are fitted with 12v compressor fridges (no gas at all) and operate according to the panel settings.....Just FYI....keep up the good work.....Cheers.
Many thanks for sharing your experience Graham, it’s always good to hear other people’s views 👍🏻 Sending our best wishes to you in Australia, happy travels, Keith & Michele.
Hi Bill, Apologies but we’re not familiar with this fridge so can’t advise. Possibly worth a Google search? 🤔 Sending best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
Many thanks for the advice. Funnily enough last night when hooked up I was woken at 3 am! we have the same fridge as yours and the triangle and battery icon were lit and bleeping. [error code W06 - dc power not connected]. so completely miffed, we drove home, where I switched the fridge on with the engine running, still connected. All was ok. Then disconnected the car and tried gas. All Ok. Then tried electric 240v - all ok. Can you tell me what the problem was please?
Hi Andy, Delighted you got this problem rectified. Sometimes a simple reset or, in your case, the fridge being turned off totally, can rectify glitches. Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
Hi Penelope, All our caravans & now our motorhome have an external flip lock at the bottom of the fridge to secure the door when travelling. This was a standard factory fitting, not sure about older caravans though. Hope this helps, thanks for watching, Keith & Michele.
New MH owner here and getting to grips with out Dometic 3-way Fridge. Re: AUX-STARTER-GAS, I keep reading that the fridge will not run on 12v unless engine is running. Why is the AUX 12v needed at all ?
Hi @DOCWHOK9. You are correct, the 12v setting only work is when the vehicle’s engine is running. This feature is used to keep the fridge at the same temperature, so for example if you were to have the fridge cold when leaving site it would stay at that temperature when driving. Hope that makes sense. Keith & Michele
Hi leostar, Some caravan fridges will automatically switch to gas if the amperage supply drops below a certain current. This normally happens if the caravan heating system kicks in (which takes a lot of current) thus dropping the supply to the fridge. One way to test this theory is to turn off your heating system & any external sockets to see if this cures the problem. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.
Worst thing they ever did putting electronics on a fridge the electolux I had went for 30 years With just one thermocouple replacement,no flashing lites or beeps to wake you up . progress I suppose thanks for the info
Im finding that our fridge on/off button has to be pressed extremely hard for it to switch, where as the mode and button is a soft touch. Any ideas on this?
Hi Neil. It could be something as simple as the switch board needs to be cleaned or even replaced. Either way you would need to access the board to investigate. This maybe something for an engineer. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele
Many thanks for watching Paolo, yes…they can get very cold & start to freeze items inside unless the fridge temperature is turned down. Sending our best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
When we go away, we put the fridge on battery when we collect the caravan from the storage yard. We put our food in it along with two 1 litre bottles of water that have been frozen overnight . This helped to drop the temperature of the fridge quickly and when you arrive to site after a long drive you have some ice cold water ready to drink as it will have thawed a bit
We have the same fridge in our motorhome just a month old Fridge will not get cold on electric or gas been on 5 days Only at night the triangle 🔺️ warning comes on 2 in the morning I tried the reset and took all fuses out refitted still no joy fridge lights up not getting cold Does your freezer department get cold May have to book in in at the dealer for repair
Just found this very useful as my new to me 2020 swift eccles decided it wouldnt work on gas beep beep beep very annoying as have been trying allsorts before i contact the dealer and say its broken all for them to say oh jsut do this haha
The plug in stands for 110/120 AC current. The battery stands for a 12 volt power supply that probably feeds through a converter. Also, a height number of campers are pulled by a pickup, not a car. I think the battery only stands Defoe 12 volt power.
Hi Patrick, On our particular model this is the reset procedure as explained to us by a Dometic engineer. What he failed to tell us is that we should wet our finger! We’re pretty old 😆 Sending best wishes to you, Keith & Michele.
@@keithandmichele as well as dry finger my hearing not too goo either, just tried the triangle again and it doesn't move so you're right, it is the on/off button :-) thank you for your video
Hi Theresa, Dometic is the manufacturers name, they make fridges for leisure vehicles. Thetford is another well known name & they make fridges & toilets. Hope this helps, Keith & Michele.
