Wonderful find. This one is in very good shape. Don't toss those little things in the center of the burner holes. They are important for proper burning of the fuel. If you lose one of the rubber things, a plastic lid from a can of salsa will work too. Won't melt from the fuel used.
I used one on out boat during a 2-year sailing trip around the Mediterranean. It was easy to find the fuel in France, Italy, Corsica, Greece, Turkye and Tunisia. It works great, economical, easy and saves you from the hassle of finding the right propane gas with the right fittings, etc. It is also very safe on board. I bought the lastest model with the rounded corners for our neew boat. We should all stimulate the company to restart manufacturing the now very rare (and therefor very expensive in the sailing community) but utterly fantastic cooking stove/oven combination, so two burners and an oven (with a burner unit inside) . I believe it's been out of production (feb 2022) but I'll be happy to stand corredted should it be otherwise
The Dometic metho stove came with our Hiace campervan. I was thinking of replacing it with gas but after using it on a few trips, decided to keep it. Works fantastic and is cheap to run. It's a bit slow boiling a full kettle, but for cooking, really good. Excellent for simmering as you can turn the flame right down to almost nothing. I wouldn't part with it.
My first use of one was in a hired camper in the UK 🇬🇧 I thought it was great the meths sold in the UK is pink coloured but I think it burns hotter and leaves less soot than the meths I buy in Australia
@@kisbushcraftdownunder ,, apparently (I haven't tried this yet) add about 10% water to the metho to reduce the blackening of your pots. It won't burn as hot though.
@@jurgentreue1200 The water works ok on the trangia burner I didn't see any loss of speed but it seemed harder to light with a fire steel but fine with a lighter. To combat soot leave a coating of dish wash liquid to dry on pots before use then clean up is easy
It seems a bit crazy to me they are popular with camper type vans here in Australia as they don't have to fit the vented doors to store the gas cylinder in
So I just got one of these, on a complete stroke of good luck, on Craigslist as I was about to move several states away, about to build my tiny house! I've had my heart set on using one of these in it, every since I found out about them a few years ago, and didn't realize, until just before I bought this one in November, that they were no longer making them! 🙊 I felt extremely fortunate to have found the one I did. Anyway, question for you! First of all, I assume it should be easy to open them, right? I haven't for the life of me been able to figure out how to open mine yet. I watched very carefully how you did it, but mine won't budge! 🤔 The other thing is, you mentioned having to remove that little black circle thing before you light it... does that mean you have to open the stove every time you light it? How necessary is the black thing? I noticed that the burner you lit, didn't have one. Is there an advantage to using it with, or without that in place?
It should open easily look for the locking tab under the top section in the middle and make sure the knob is in the off position if it’s open you can’t open the stove , the black round is a seal to prevent evaporation I only use mine when it gets stored away
@@kisbushcraftdownunder Thank you for your answers! I did get it open recently. I had been very confused about the black thing, and I'm glad that I understand now, for some reason I thought it had to be in place when you light the stove! 😬 😆 ( pretty important thing not to get wrong! ) Thankfully, I discovered that actually, it's quite the opposite! 🙈
I haven't heard about anything illegal about them I suspect they found it tough to compete with china some people don't like paying for quality gear. They turn up on trading posts but they get get a lot of bids and good prices
Worth good money now as discontinued, perhaps double what they were when new! Cookmate 3100 is slightly cheaper if you can find one and just as well made i fact a carbon copy really
I keep my eyes 👀open at flea markets so far not seen another when Iget around to building a teardrop I think it will be the stove of choice regards Mike
I bought one maybe 10 years ago but I never even opened the box lol it still lives in a closet, it's still nice to own though for emergencies. At the time I was torn between the Origo 1500 and 3000 and chose 3000. Hmm, even though it's now also discontinued I see that at some point they updated the 1500 to an Origo 2000, I wonder what the difference was between the 1500 and 2000?
Do you know where to get those rubber discs to cover the container opening? I have recently managed to buy a used Origo 3000 but I need new rubber discs.
To convert BTU into watts you divide it by 3.41 so the domestic burner is 7000BTU divided by 3.41 equals 2,052 watts more people can understand watts because the use kettles light bulbs ect in daily life regards Mike
Thanks for the video. Can you clarify that your using methyl hydrate. It says on mine to use denatured alcohol. Is it safe to use Methyl hydrate. Thank you.
HI Methylated Spirits is Ethanol (UN1170) in Australia here we put an additive to make you sick to stop people drinking it Isopropanol is also sold but as a rubbing alcohol but is more expensive hope this helps
