Dometic RV Refrigerator Freezes No More

This is a Dometic RV refrigerator. It has been freezing things.
The factory uses a Thermistor to control the temperature in this unit.
They are fixed or non-adjustable and prone to failure.
I am replacing the Thermistor with an Articca adjustable Thermistor, or Thermostat.
It is the same price as a replacement thermistor, about 22 dollars US.
The Articca adjustable Thermistor has an adhesive back and is applied to the wall right next to the fin that had the Thermistor on it.Follow the factory instructions for connecting it to the existing wires. This solved the problem of the refrigerator freezing food and drinks. Look at the door in the video and you will see the frozen Ginger ale.
NOTE manufacturer suggests: Be sure to unplug the thermistor from the control board before cutting the old thermistor off.
All tho I admit that I just turned the unit off and did mine. Worked fine.
If your incline to unplug the thermistor, the control panel is in back under the black plastic cover. It has one screw at the top and to side flex tabs. Stick the tip of a screw driver in the little side slots and flex out on the box to pop it free.

*Love this unit! Using upstairs in my sons bedroom **Fastly.Cool** and he’s finally able to be comfortable upstairs without me freezing downstairs. Works for more sqft than expected!*

Used this product on my Dometic Americana. It worked like a champ. Easy to install, just follow directions in this video or on the included info sheet. Nice bonus is that it is adjustable. I would like to thank you for putting up the video and making the product available. Saved me time and money as I cannot be here for a tech to do the work. So I get to keep the service call fee.

Thank you. We have a brand new RV, never used an RV before as we are long time tenters. It is nice now not having to buy ice every other day. I adjusted the thermistor down and it came off. I put it back on but everything thing froze no matter where I put that slide thermistor. Your video mentioned the wire attached to it. I remember seeing a white wire but it is not attached to the thermistor. Seeing your video gives me hope that I can fix this problem. Somehow that wire is supposed to go in the bottom of the thermistor.

Why did he not show that part? He shows us everything from using a hairdryer to remove condensation to informing us that he had the old thermistor in the factory spot but doesn't show the most important part of the whole change over. Strange to say the least.

Awesome! I have a brand new travel trailer and didn't know I could adjust temp. that was freezing things. I don't need to replace anthing, just had to move the temp tab. down Thanks so much.

In my trailer / unit The Freezes work fine but the bottom is almost dead.(can not keep food) . I'm going to move the thermostat and see what happen. Note: it is connected to the electricity now but the trailer is not level. Thanks for the tip.

You cut the single wire on the original thermostat and connected TWO wires on the replacement thermostat. Where did that second wire connect to?

That one wire is just a jacket with two wires in it. You will see when you pull yours apart.

Do you have a video showing how you connected the wires to the Articca adjustable Thermistor ?

There is nothing to it you just cut the thermistor off and there are two wires inside the jacket that looks like one wire. Slice the jacket back carefully and strip the ends of the two wires and connect them to the new thermostat with the included wire nuts. It will come with instructions and images.

So tell me - moving the thermistor up is suppose to raise the temp and moving it down is suppose to lower the temperature?? What's the best temp? I have a frig thermometer.

It doesn't matter. Its just a resistor... two wires from the new hook up to two wires in the old wire sheath.

Michael Harrington it does matter if there are no instructions provided with the part you installed. These videos are mostly viewed by people with no experience looking for a solution.

I ordered the kit. My Dometic Americana model RM2852 always seems to be running constantly and freezes everything in the fridge part. This, of course, runs my seasonal site electric bill sky high. Has anyone else also had an unusually high electric bill because of this and saw it come way down after installing this product?

So you don't get ice build up in the fridge anymore? As i was watching this, i'm blow drying my fridge from all the ice... i live in an rv full time with my family.

it did cure my icing and freezing but check your door gasket also

@@greenrumour they seem fine, no imperfections. There is wiggle room though when I close the door. The RV is 6 years old, maybe they need to be replaced?

It's a wall mounted adjustable thermistor or thermostat. I just used the old thermistor clip for a place to tuck the wires

You're lucky! My fridge has NO/NOTHING to indicate which way is "warmer" OR the "factory settings"! In fact, the manual basically had 3 sentences to it:" 1.Good luck! 2. God Bless 3. Good-bye!" POS!...I rue the day I bought this Viking and drove it off the lot! I could read the salesman's mind!as he was gleefully winking and waving like a person leaving relatives at the train!!! " Good luck SUCK-a!"!

it's charging me $27.50 but it's still cheaper than a new refrigerator... did u hook those wires to a thing or just lay them behind the white thing to the old thermistor???
