@@Lilly-qb2hn a bit of both. mostly because in the beginning you don't know much about him. so people played around with the character. like stories or fan art that he smokes cigarettes and owns a orange tabby cat. but yeah I do think the Kylux shippers might had helped with General Hux's popularity a bit.
I assume you're talking about when Rian Johnson made Hux awesome? In TFA he's supposed to be this snarling Nazi villain and you just can't take it seriously. He's a nice guy, but he plays sniveling villains you just want to punch VERY WELL. It's like casting Paul Dano. You don't cast Domhnall as your villain to give scary intimidating speeches. You just him to undermine him and make him look like a geek BECAUSE HE IS. He's a genocidal Nazi brat. Only Rian seemed to understand that.
Nope I felt it was really on point with his character. He was always a cowardly scheming villain and that is what I like about him. But ultimately it cost him his life. His allegiance was only to himself, never to the first order. He put his ambitions before his loyalty to the first order and general Pryde did what was necessary.
Didn't Disney create his character though? He always seemed like he couldn't be the main villain, and wasn't really the guy in charge. And so it proved.
Not a lot of Hux fans uh? Guys you heard the man, we raise at dawn. (Edit: I posted this 5 months ago and had like, 800 likes, now it has 2k... we are all in denial about TROS arent we)
poor Hux a once proud First Order General got disillusioned and disrespected within the ranks. Can't blame him for being a mole and helping the resistance heroes.
Met Domhnall at a Hozier concert in Dublin , nicest guy. I got hoziers setlist and he took it and ran away as joke , So I was left chasing after him haha. ( He gave it back obviously). So cool to meet him , He has a great sense of humour! Never thought I would be chasing General Hux in my life! 😂
Hux is such an intriguing and with portrayed character with a complex and interesting backstory - it’s a shame that Disney didn’t use him to his full potential.
What a precious interview. I take it Domhnall hasn't found out about that tiny faction of fanfictions about him and Kylo Ren yet, or to mention the fanart...He's in for a real chocker when he sees the popularity of his character among adult fans. Personally, I think Hux is a type of character that changes the dynamic of the dark side. He's the Starscream of Star Wars, always looking for a way to stick a knife in the back of Ren and/or Snoke and claim the throne for himself. I'm hoping he's got some scheme up his sleeve in the last movie, because a little bit of infighting among the evil characters is always fun to see.
@@Lilly-qb2hn Oh, didn't know about that. Gotta check that interview out! lol. I hope he got curious enough to read some of the better ones. This fandom has some truly impressive writing skills in it, from any fandom doing fanfics that I've read. (Well, there's the truly weird and plain strange as well. I wonder which type of stuff his brother showed him. XD).
Fred T I agree totally. His character has so much potential as a very ruthless character but Rian turned him into comic relief and JJ sealed his fate and changed him into a spy that came out of knowhere. Like, one movie he’s destroying systems then the next he’s helping the group that he tried to destroy with a system destroying laser. He could have been like the hitler of space and have a good character written but it was wasted. I’m not saying hitler was a cool person or he was good, I’m just comparing them because both where dictators(hux only spoke like one) and both gave speeches that rallied the people that listened. No matter what people say about hitler, the one thing you can’t den is that he knew how to pursuade and rally people.
His character was never intimidating though. It made sense for him to be undermined, and mocked, and then turn into a rebel mole. He's a brat who's only in it for himself.
It would've been awesome and an amazing twist if General Hux actually did join the Resistance after being the spy rather than just getting killed. But then again this was the same guy who made a speech about how the whole galaxy would bow down to the first order so tbh i really wouldn't believe that this guy actually would betray the first order. This guy had so much potential even as a side character and it really did go to waste and he just became comedic relief.
Hux totally has plenty of huge fans - but yeah, mostly not children. A problem is that he's a minor character in the films so you kind of have to read the books to get the full picture (some people are also uncomfortable with the "fascist" parallels in my experience, but as a fan of villains I'm used to separating "enjoying a character" and "agreeing with them"). But honestly, at this point with my exposure to the creative Star Wars fandom, I basically only care about the First Order characters even though the movies are clearly not using them to their ... most interesting capacities. Hux and Phasma are both really cool characters with great backstories, but you can't fit all that into movies where they're the villains and also ostensibly for children so you have to hold back a bit. Domnhall basically nailed the issue incidentally by noting how naturally violent he thought to be as Hux! On a similar - but tangential - note, I think a lot of fans are better at writing Kylo Ren because they can actually make him act like an adult sometimes, which gives me mixed feelings: on the one hand, the fanfiction tends towards good or great, on the other hand, it's not canon.
Honestly I never really paid much attention to him at first but I love looking at fan art of things I like. And wow, I’ve gotta say, Hux has some of the most dedicated and well done art of any star wars characters I’ve ever seen
I liked him in the first and was disappointed they just made him a punching bag in the second. But honestly, they could’ve done so much more with the spy plot in the third.

Everything apart, his performance in tfa and tlj is still gold. The speech on the starkiller base was just great. Cold, terrifying, military. Just perfect! Edit: just realised they were both in the peter rabbit movie, James as Peter and Domhall as Thomas Mcregor
TFA, yes. TLJ? He truly did the best with what he was given. Great slapstick performance, but too bad it wasn't in line with the character from TFA. That was the writer's fault. Still love me some Bill Weasley.
@@krieghart5515 I would argue TLJ understood the character a lot better. He's a sniveling little weasel, he's not Moff Gideon or Tarkin where there's presence and you're supposed to be afraid of him and take him seriously. He's a little worm and TLJ treats him like that. It's a PERFECT recontextualization of what was sort of a miscasting.
After watching Rise of Skywalker, the first order would have won if they had listened to him. Instead of worrying about the force and shit and getting distracted with side quests.
Thank you James for inviting this gorgeous and talented man, sometimes is difficult to catch him but we, his fans, are persistent! He totally worth it! Love you Domhnall Gleeson!
“All remaining systems will bow to the First Order! And remember this, is the last day of the Republic!” Epic speech. Best acting performance in entire SW franchise?

Okay but honestly, Hux was great in The Force Awakens! However, the writing in Last Jedi made him the butt of every joke. So - how menecing he was in TFA was forgotten in TLJ. I feel like he is the Littlefinger of Star Wars and could truly tip the balance in the First Order. His dynamic with Kylo Ren is one of the most interesting parts of the trilogy. Hope they have more scenes together in the last film.

I actually really liked the tribunal of leadership between Hux, Phasma, and Kylo. For some reason that dynamic really interested me, too bad they didn't explore it too much!
General Hux is my favourite imperial, First-order General in the whole star wars universe. You can tell that General Hux has a lot of conflict in him. General Hux shows emotions, he's arrogant, cocky, sometimes too cocky and that's what you're looking for in a villain. The new star wars, you can tell that Hux hated Kylo ren and I wasn't surprised that Hux was the "Mole" in the first order. Hux was supposed to replace Grand Moff Tarkin and replaced him well. Hux Was a great character and I will never forget him. Rest in peace bruhz
General Hux is my FAVOURITE character from SW !!! I hope we'll have some great Hux moments in the new film. Domhnall should know how we appreciate him!
Hard to believe that he was also Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter movies. He seems like a total sweetheart. Usually the nicest people can play complete psychopaths. I love it!
Ikr?i mean give the saber wielders a break.hux and poe.especially poe , they are like contrasting and cool in their own way . Cant wait for age of resistance:hux
I've been obsessed over General Hux since 2015 now, and Hux has such a huge fandom! Just look at the stats, the amount of fanfic written with him in it alone! PLEASE SOMEONE TELL HIM HUX IS THE MOST BELOVED STAR WARS CHARACTER I NEED HIM TO KNOW
Domhnall is so lowkey as in you don't really hear much about him outside of interviews and his movies which is amazing because he's actually been in all sorts of movies from Harry Potter to Star Wars to About Time and like Ex Machina. He's truly an amazing actor. He's definitely more popular than he thinks he is but I'm just glad he doesn't get mobbed by fans or anything.
Hux is two different characters in two vastly different movies. In one he is a mad tyrannical leader in search of more power, in the next he's a bumbling buffoon reduced to slapstick tomfoolery. It'll be interesting to see what sort of character Domhnall plays in Plan IX.
@@nocturnal03 I swear he didn't watch TFA before making TLJ. He had the basic synopsis of the movie (TFA), but he clearly didn't understand the sub-plots or the characters. Finn went from possible Jedi to comic relief who basically fails in his mission.
