im basically watching every single one of their videos i can find on youtube since i saw that vic firth promo video. cant wait for their album to drop.
I thank the Universe for these two guys, and for Knower and Snarky Puppy. Accountants have shafted music. These guys have demonstrated the ultimate in playing skills. In my day I listened to Chick, Jan Hammer et all. Saw them live even. But as I approach a youthfull late 60's I'm seeing a new era of excitementin music. I would love to be here in 30 years time to see them become the greatest on the planet like our jazz stars are. I'm in love with DOMi. She has a piano skill that is to die for. JD is so crisp that I can hear every tap. They have inspired me to practice again. Long may they live to be the Earths greatest jazz products.
Before you hand out "greatest jazz products" better give Jacob Collier a listen. Try him with Snarky Puppy.... and if you like guitar, Matteo Mancuso has made none other than the legendary Al DiMeola give a bow of his head to him... I truly believe RU-vid is changing the world; slowly removing ALL knowledge from dusty corners, exposing it to the world's minds, and they are reacting by standing ever higher on the shoulders of the WORLD'S giants in so many fields, music happily being one of them.
I’m right widya dave piano: Jan Hammer-DOMi does such elegant work in the higher registers. JD freshened up the old fusion style w/ less is more yet the impression he creates seems much more than the sum of its parts. It’s like he’s messing within the inverse square polyrhythmically in reference to DOMI. So nice watching the new talent beating their heads against the wall of creative giants. Zawinul, Bozzio,Chick,Tony Williams, JoJo. Collier-Cole-and Snarky pup are the saviors outside of pop we’ve been longing for. At 65+ yrs and over 50yrs of paying my fare share in dues. Hearing fresh musicians tearing it up with respect to the power of music totally re-ignites many experiences and complex emotions difficult to express without a life of music. Thank you Universe!
To get that kind of touch and precision at any age on the drums is extraordinary. To see that level of skill in a teen is a wonder to behold, he’s got the hand mechanics down and a unique style with the jungle and drumnbass grooves in there. What a monster! He”ll be able in his future to go any direction he wants! Domi... bravo as well! She picks great drummers. Great pianist... so open.
yes indeed! I am a classical pianist but huge jazz fan--she is amazing, she LISTENS as well as has technique and loose, fluid fingers. This may sound silly but her facility reminds me of Art Tatum no lie! Oh yeah she COVERS Oscar Peterson, my favorite jazz pianist since I was about 13 years old. 60 now...just a joy to watch them, so focused, energetic, and enjoying playing!!
DOMI is a gem among gems. It's very rare to find a keyboardist, or any solo musician, able to display such a technical prowess while leaving enough space for the drummer to showcase their own mastery and still do the job of keeping the music interesting and entertaining. She puts just enough in to amaze, but not so much that she overwhelms any part of the delicate performance. Instead, she punctuates and frames JD's beats in a way that turns them into something far more meaningful and expressive. You could teach a whole college around this video.
Man, I haven't been so excited about new music in many years, and following the lead from comments below, I also share the feeling that magnificent things are bubbling underneath the surface of the music scene, ready to burst after decades of surrendering the craft to execs and bean counters. DOMi giving tasteful Zawinul/Hancock vibes in several of her performances and JD Beck amazes with his precise and highly technical delivery, yet so emotionally loaded. Can't get enough of these two young prodigies and am lining up to their first record and live shows
On top of their stellar musicianship and musicality they are so at home with methods and tech: the way JD plays with the kit; Domi's wizardry with the interfaces.
wait WHAT THE-- i just noticed a subtle JD flex!! he's alternating between single and double stickings but maintaining the same hi-hat subdivisions... dude... i quit HA
"I thank the Universe for these two" ...I've read these words in another comment here at the same time I was hearing these words coming from my heart. This is pure GOLD to be thankful for in this earth! Thanks Domi, thanks JD! This is pure love in the form of music over there!!
Oooohhhwww and.........Wwwwooowww.........You could call me an old fart (born in ' 63), being an all-time admirer // lover of all that was made by Weather Report . Then stumbling upon this interpretation of Havona, I thought...."Hmmm, Impress me with your version" ................................................. and you did ! Loved every part of it !!! Thank you --- Big Time !!!
It’s wild. At moments, I’m thinking they’re drifting away doing their own things, and then they’ll hit an accent at the same moment. Then I realize they were synced up the whole time. Just incredible timing
I don't remember saving this video but it's amazing! Only two performers ! Doing any Weather Report tune is undaunting but many clone groups fall short of really expressing themselves the closer they get to imitating the real thing. Great tune by Jaco done differently and the space and tightness is refreshing.
Mind Blowing- what a gift these two young artists are bringing to the world. What we don't see are the hours, days, and years of practice they put in to reach this level of virtuosity,
💯I have to say I'm guilty of judging the thumbnail (just another couple of kids...) and NOT clicking until Rick Beato mentioned them. More fool me. They are very talented with mind-blowing technical facility.
This is incredible sacred stuff that you guys give justice too. Can only imagine the level of practice it takes to develop such prodigious talent into this level of player. Might be tricky as a "duet", sounds like a quartet lol, but selfishly id love to hear black market. merci beaucoup jeune fille et jeune fils. Vous etes trop forte et tres encroyable
I've started listening to Domi about a year ago and I was blown away and a couple of days ago I randomly saw the promo she did with JD for Nord lead called: (you can) Sniff (my butt) and I was blown away once again. Since then I've been roaming youtube watching videos of them playing together, can't get enough of the way they sound. I can't describe how perfectly they fit with each other. A musical union made in heaven.
@@christowers7307 Can't make myself not comment on an 8 month old comment. If you like that kinda stuff, check out Joey Defrancesco. Not necessarily as far out there as these two (at least not all the time), but what he does with his left hand and foot while shredding the craziest shit with his right hand makes my brain explode everytime. This is a classic imo: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7qwgC1y3gbQ.html
It's cool and I love how DOMi continues runs from one hand to the other, but her left hand is no Jaco Pastorius, nor is it close to Art Tatum's (no one is).
Oh my ... this is the first time I saw this band and it's the freshest I've seen since I first saw Mats & Morgan back in the day. This is seriously nice! Amazing!
Lovely music.. always such gorgeous melodies. Rhythm is perfect weather report suits their style. Brilliant absolutely brilliant so much nuance love to hear black market. Chapeau c'est magnifique 👌
Correct me if I'm wrong. It seems that the core rhythm of the song emanates from her, not him. This frees him up to syncopate in creative ways. This is a reversal to 99.999% of music. They are perfect together.
An absolutely virtuoso level performance… and she hops up at the end with a simple “Thank you, have a nice day” as if nothing happened 😂 This duo is incredible.
Ehhh w8 I am a freakin´ MEATALHEAD - what am I doin´ here? Wait... I enjoy two great musicians and a hell of a groove. Thanks for upload, I realy enjoyed it :)
Can you imagine doing all that and then ending with “well alright, y’all have a nice day😊” like you didn’t just leave everyone in that room scalp-less??? These people are on a different level lmaoooo
It's just improvised jazz and I like it a lot, altough I miss a bit of swing here. You know, Jaco had tremendous rhythm, time, drive and energy - maybe because he started as a drummer. But this video goes to my playlists now.
It’s probably not too late. It will just take maybe a decade of ardent daily practice. I just started practicing piano at 27 and it took me a while to realize that it wasn’t too late for me. Already playing some of my favorite songs after a year and learning lots of theory. Nothing is really stopping you but your limiting beliefs
