Im going there in 2 days but im sh*t scared man... I am trying to get over that and just enjoy the snorkling. I LOVE snorkling but I dont know the fish, I dont know their behaviour etc... Are any of these fishes dangerous? Do you have an advice for a newbie like me? :) Tnx man and a great video!
I am at the resort today, and I had a great snorkeling experience, I got over my fear of sharks coming after me too. I found 6 starfish, 5 alive, and a 8 inch conch shell and TONS of fish
Hey man I love the videos! I'm going to Dreams La Romana in Jan with my snorkel gear and GoPro. Hopefully there's still as many fish. Any tips for snorkeling there? How often are you using a red filter in this footage?Keep it up! I can't wait to see this stuff for real!
The maximum snorkelling depth was about 2.0 metres so I didn't need really to use the red filter much except when the weather was really overcast. However the red filter made a huge difference for the scuba diving excursions particularly for 10 metres or deeper. The footage shot in this video was mostly within about a 20 metre radius of the hotel jetty and may be about 100 metres west of the jetty. We explored two rectangle bays about 200 metres west of the hotel but there seemed to be less coral and so less fish. Another hotel guest we spoke to reported going beyond and finding interesting sea life again. Check Google Maps and snorkel / dive safe.
No, did not see any sharks of any kind. I reckon it's just too shallow and probably too noisy for the big predators, particularly where I shot that video. I also did some scuba diving much further out there but did not see any sharks. However that does not mean there are none in the region ...
Thank you so much I looked up sharks & saw they had tiger sharks so was kinda worried. Been to Maldives which have grey tipped sharks (non agrresive) but kinda scary lol. Snorkeling Iis amazing in the Maldives. I'd like to think D Republic can live up to that. 😂
@@lisastewart1545 We returned to the same resort in 2018 and unfortunately the marine life had declined somewhat at the same spot where I filmed the original clip. I think it was because in 2018 there was way more beach party music during the day than before. But we did find more marine life 200 metres in the quieter spots further west from that jetty (use Google Maps Satellite View). Post-COVID, 2024, difficult to know if it is better or worse. I remember Maldives being way better for snorkelling and diving, but Dom Rep is a bigger country with more to see. We chose La Romana because it faces the calmer Caribbean, as opposed to Punta Cana which faces the rougher Atlantic, and we chose the November to April period for more settled weather.
Such a shame marine life has suffered. I think The Maldives has spoilt any future snorkeling elsewhere. I'd rather go back to Maldives as I personally think its more relaxing with so much more coral reef to see
Goos snorkellng shots. My wife and I were snorkelling between the public beach and Dominicus on a small beach with coral but didn't see a schoal of a fish that you captured.
