I'm certainly not an expert in the warhammer nations, but who says you need to be qualified to make youtube videos :) Special thanks to sombre for making this cool mod.

The warhammer fantasy world is just our world with an Atlantis added. And mostly based off of ancient history, excluding the ratmen, but besides making mictlan dinosaurs it's very similar to dominions

One thing the Marauder Horsemen have going for them is that they have the mobile archer trait, so they can throw their javelins while moving. This means if you, for instance, set them to attack rear, then they will strafe any troops they pass with javelins as they go forward. The riders also have quite good defence (including their parry from the shield) so low or mid damage attacks don't tend to bother them. You're correct the horses are somewhat vulnerable, although Marauder Steeds are pretty high quality and the riders have the skilled rider trait in relevant amounts.

Light horses of Nurgle are one of the best expanders you can do. It doesn't matter much that horses don't have great prot (enough to take some hits and arrows before depleting their nice hp pool) if most hits are targeted at a rider who has 17 def. They can throw javelins, keep distance, throw another volley and then do light lance charge and hardly take casualities against most indies. Foot marauders, especially ones with tower shields are also quite durable. With fair gold cost and low rec requirement they do very well too when you just can't fill enough ranks with sacreds or chaos warriors. Luck independent hero means they just have flat chance to show starting at x turn, stronger the hero the later usually. So taking luck or misfortune does not affect their chance of joining. You can get demons out of blood too.

A technique I like to use for single player games is to not put all the AI nations at the same difficulty level. If you have, say, most of them on Master, two on Mighty, and one on Impossible, you can set up the game such that it's likely the nation you put on Impossible will be a good final boss for the game, since they'll tend to overpower the other nations over time. The other trick for managing Dominion pressure is to play a disciples game with AI allies who are on a lower difficulty than the average for AI opponents; if you can keep them alive, they'll build a lot of temples for your team. And it creates some good natural plot where you periodically need to rescue them. Meanwhile, you can be fighting multiple AI players at once without being overwhelmed, which creates fun variety in its own way.

Boycott Lucid's cronyism and his middle finger to Patron supporters. Any time you want to return my years+ of support would be great. Sombre is a thief who stole functions of my steam account and regardless of Lucid's original claim to make a dom5 community that was different and more open than the past he doubled down on legging humping the same elite group of cyberbullies and banned a guy for ~3 lines of text in as many years from the discord he had effectively paid to access. Lucid and Illwinter sycophants like him who refuse to be publicly critical are why Dominions is still crawling in the mud of nichedom after decades. Gamer's Workshop (warhmamer) has in the past sold its license to companies who install spyware in the games. I'm not sure what Sombre's connection to them is but as a rule boycott Gamer's Workshop products until they compensate gamers for the personal data that has been harvested and sold.

It's worth noting that only the last Chaos spawn on the list is mindless and most move at the same speed as the infantry. So you can mix them in as they appear until they can be massed. Their morale may stiffen that of their squad, raising the threshold for an hp rout, if nothing else. Once you can mass them, they are terrifying berserkers some of which have fear auras. I'm a huge fan,. Did you guess?

Yeah those are good points - i end up getting those hordes of chaos spawn later.... (foreshadowing) The bigger ones can also wade through your normal infantry - so when storming forts they often end up in the gate.

Cool to see some mod love for dominions. So many amazing mods out there and there is just no one makint content for them. I resently started playing the forgotten realms overhaul mod pack. It's meant for sp and isn't balanced at all, but thats the fun of it. Imo the coolest (and probably the strongest) nation is the aboleth nation Symphony of madness, but when I started it I got instantly overwhelmed XD, 3 starting locations very far away from each other with different units was too much for my brain :)

I think the Warhammer nations are significantly stronger than the average vanilla nation; often just higher stats and paths than you usually see. But it's not such a difference that you can't play them in the same game, in the same way that you can play a really strong nation like Asphodel in the same game as a mediocre one like Eriu and still have a fun game.

I havent played that many of them, but i think in general the units have lowish magic paths and tend to be quite expensive for what you get - i.e: chaos warrior 30g is pretty pricy for a scales infantry compared to the value you get from ulm etc. They also dont have scaling mechanics like any of the strong vanilla MA factions. I think the best argument you could make for them is that they are top of middle of the pack. My feeling from playing them is that they are more middle of the middle of the pack.

Iirc the intention for all of them is to be of upper third of vanilla nations strength wise. And some can get quite easily bonked by mid pack depending on matchup.

Some of the nations are definitely a bit on the strong side (the recruitable ethereal cav of Nagashizzar and Vampire Counts are quite potent as expanders, for example, and the Empire Knightly orders are each ready-made expansion parties that can be recruited very fast.) Ultimately, while not exactly broken, a lot of stuff in the mod can *feel* like it is, because it breaks the normal ‘rules’ of dominions in minor ways; for example, High Elves get a commander specialized in crafting with Master Smith 2, which is something even the vanilla Titan of the Forge doesn’t get, nor any other vanilla unit. And Lizardmen get Slaan, which are innate casters that have magic paths well above any recruitable vanilla mage in the game. Multiple factions have recruitable mages that have 0 upkeep, another thing which is basically unheard of in vanilla. Commander units almost universally get unsurroundable, normally reserved for stuff like chariots in vanilla, and many elite human commanders get superhuman stats compared to vanilla humans. The empire factions have access to Late Age path diversity in the middle age, and Wood Elves have recruitable immortal sacred cav. But ultimately, none of the aforementioned things end up being as broken as they sound, because they are costed accordingly, have serious limitations placed on their recruitment, or their trick isn’t actually powerful in the grand scheme of things. Or all three at once.

One thing that that is somewhat counter-intuitive about Nurgle is that, while he is all about disease and pestilence, he's not super into people dying of it. As a result, one of the effects of being an active worshipper of Nurgle, and receiving his Blessings is protection from certain effects of your diseases, very much including death. Which in turn explains why Nurgle can have increase Growth Scales: while yes more people are getting sick, and those that do get sick get sicker, the illnesses are generally non-fatal, and any diseases you or your livestock would have contracted if Nurgle wasn't present get replaced with less dangerous versions. If anything, I'm surprised he can't go more Sloth, I'm pretty sure Nurgle is also associated with things like stasis and apathy.

@@-Kidzin It could be 1% odds to fail for each stage and I'd still stand by my comment haha The only thing I haven't seen in a while is a key battlefield mage getting shot in the head by an arrow to lose the battle.

I myself am a MASSIVE lore nerd when it comes to warhammer. Nurgle is actually primarily the embodyment of stagnation, people often forget this major part of him the absence of moving foward, yet also embodying rebirth from death in new forms is a bit of a paradox in terms of his characteristics. If you really want good depections of nurgle I would advice reading the hidden libary horror stories of the chaos gods, really gives the cosmic horror vibes alot more when you are not veiwing whats happening from the perspective of 9ft tall superhumans lol.

Damn that is an impressive mod. Last I'd played his Warhammer mods in Dom3 where they were nice but rather overpowered and slightly lacking in appearance. Clearly he's since gotten a lot better at everything.

Not really, more like Asphodel's without the sacred freespawn: the Zombie plague is low quality chaff and Nurgle's rot gives better chaff with a Herald of Nurgle. The main draw is that it's free stuff for actions you'd take anyway.

@@dean_l33 He's free. You don't have to thug him out. He can ferry troops better than Aspiring Champions when they start out. He can bless the troops more efficiently than the Sorcerers and as efficiently as the Sorcerer Lords. Not a thug does not mean entirely useless. Papa Nurgle needs troop pushers and paper shufflers too.

There is no fucking way they are the same power level as vanilla dominions. They are much more powerful.

Depends on the Warhammer nation in question; the Orc nations are broadly comparable in power to some of the more run of the mill or weaker vanilla nations, and Kislev has powerful sacred bear cav and dual wielding berserkers, but both are nowhere near as powerful as Zhayedans or Vanhere respectively. Even the really powerful Warhammer nations aren’t currently so powerful that they eclipse the most powerful vanilla nations. Vampire Counts get some neat tricks, and potentially amazing expansion options, but they aren’t nearly as good at drowning the world in skeletons as Sceleria, and require gold resources and recruitment points, or gems, to initially recruit their armies, while Tomb Kings get cool animated constructs, but those constructs aren’t sacred like MA Agartha, and again, their undead units require gold, resources, and recruitment points to be recruited, and many are vulnerable to fire. High Elves get extremely good units and mages, but pay a massive premium to recruit them, and nearly all of their mages are extremely pricey. Lizardmen get godlike Slaan Mages of varying power, all of which put Royal Mallqui to shame, but their only other mage is a dirt cheap skink priest who IIRC automatically becomes a communion slave in battle, so those incredibly expensive, slow to recruit slaan with poor physical stats are required in order to actually accomplish much with your magic. And having too many of them active at once *will* bankrupt you. The Empire factions are good, and their ability to recruit mini-armies of Imperial Knights makes for powerful expansion, but again, doing this requires a huge amount of gold, is largely unsustainable because of upkeep, eats valuable commander slots in your forts, and beyond that they don’t actually have anything broken; their mages are good, but each sort of specialized, and they need to spend gems to actually get access to their equivalent of cap only mages. Ultimately, the Warhammer nations are powerful, but they remain within the ballpark of what you’d expect of one of the more powerful Vanilla nations.

Demons have another, weaker, shape outside of your own dominion. So yeah, if you want to use demons, spreading your own dominion is important.
