Love seeing the process. When that one part accidentally came apart, I was so nervous it was all going to fall down when you tried fixing it after all your hard work
Absolutely amazing, Lilly! It hadn't entered into my wildest imagination that you leaned the tall wall against a white background, or that you'd laid an extra layer atop these great walls! Keep up the wonderful work!
Nice, the way it started on the side looked really interesting. Waited to see this for a long time. When it doesn't have any size reference, it doesn't seem so big in size...I didn't realize before this was as large as it was.
This style of video is really interesting, reminds me of those channels I was telling you about that do soothing narration over video of them making/building/doing something. Cool to see that applied to a domino project, and I'd love to see more videos in this style, maybe for bigger or more complicated projects. I was also surprised you didn't mention the decision to add the black "shadow" on the logo with black dominoes, some of which were supported by clear dominoes. Anyway, cool to see a video in such a different style, although I totally understand how hard these are to make. It requires a lot of footage and it can definitely hinder the creative process when you have to worry about filming every single movement you make. I tried doing something similar to this with machines, but gave up after half an hour because I was making no actual building process and I got so fed up with having to stop what I was doing to move the tripod and set up another shot.
Thanks for the detailed comment, Lyle. Yeah I was reminded by what you said about those soothing narration videos when I was editing this together. I totally forgot to mention the shadow! I filmed the voiceover 2 years later narrating what I saw as I watched back the rough edit. We didn't get any shots of me building the shadow, so I guess that's why I missed it. I'm glad you like this type of style. I feel like I'm much more thorough and clear with explanations. Yeah making a video in this style can definitely be a lot of work. Having the film crew there to film me as I built was SO helpful. If I had to do this all on my own and keep moving the camera angles, it would be so much more difficult to actually get work done. I totally get that.
I found the way you started it by laying flat ones on the floor and then adding the next layer leaning against the board. I also enjoyed the detailed explanation of how to set up the string(s) to trigger the fall. I really liked seeing how you measured the string and WHY you set it up that way. The "why" of doing something really helps when you want to develop something new or even just try to duplicate something you have seen.
Thank you Lily! The things that struck me especially were the left and right edges and how you made them. There is another way but that's really tricky and what you do is nicely balanced and stable. Also i liked very much the dark gray or black dominoes in the white 5, giving it just that bit of depth with a little artificial shade. And if you feel you need a new intro, this one's cool!
Most interesting to me is that you setup the string trigger before building the domino line. I feel like that would have made me so nervous to have that live while finishing up, lol!
I didn't realize you built at least some of the speed walls at an angle. That was very interesting to know. I do agree that it would be cool if you changed up the intro every once in a while. This would be a good one to start.
7:00 I really liked the idea of building the speedwall on a leaning surface. I find it useful and I think I will use it in my project also.:-) :-) :-).
You make it sound so easy! I love your videos thank you for these amazing tips! Something that I found useful was that you need to have the string at the right length. I didn’t know that (lol) I don’t do big dominoes like this, I only have your 100 neon coloured dominoes, but this is so useful, thank you!!! 💗💗
What did I learn - the string lengths - you need maths and physics to work out the right weights and angles!! Homeschooling kids who like dominos are still using maths and physics!! LOL And art for the design and patience for the building..... I am big on homeschooling in case you can't tell. LOL Just found you and your channel this week. (end of Feb 2020)
Really Impressive video!! I can not imagine think you'd put a domino on the tilted wall~:) With patience, I was compelled to applaud the challenge to the end~!! Great~!
I really like your intro now, it's really impressive. So was this though but I think I like what you have now better. Maybe the next one should be along those lines but idk this may be cool for a intro. I learned some building techniques like building slanted, doubling up, creating a boarder so some domino's don't fall over at a unwanted time and what length to cut the string.
yeah I kinda want the next intro to have dominoes toppling normally, not in a structure, becuase that's more recognizable as a domino effect. Still thinking though. Glad you learned so much from this video!
Wowww. My 3 about to b 4 year old showed me this video. And I have to say. U are amazing. Keep up the great work. And awesome music choices :) I heard the music from afar and it attracted me. Then I saw u video. High5!!!!
I think it is all cool . I think it takes more skill & patience than I have .How long did the set up take you ? Maybe add a timer to show your work ? And how long it takes you to clean up & sort . Tips & tricks are a great thing . Thank you for sharing .
A cool thing I learned was how to get dominoes to go across the top of the wall. Another cool thing, how to make your structure sturdy without falling over while it was being built.
