As a Turk, I agree with everything you said Sister, but as a Muslim brother, the reason why Turkey is in this situation is because the country took in more than 6 million Syrian refugees, unfortunately, because there are so many Illegal workers the wages are super low, our president wants to make the country more religious, ALHAMDULILAH, and he did this by lowering the interest rates to almost nothing because of RIBA. Your experience is Turkiye wanted to be religious, a good Muslim country, but people's imaan will be tested because of it. People shouldn't just say Turkey is like this and like that, people especially Muslims should say, is housing millions of Syrians more important than my increased rent, we should ask if is it better to have lower interest rates or expensive groceries, this is a question of our imaan. As a Muslim aren’t you supposed to help people? So your attitude towards people that need help shouldn’t be so negative. It seems like you are saying the immigrants are a nuisance. What if you were the immigrant? It’s easy for you to look at them the way you do, because you have the better country. What if your family had to leave for a better life? Turkish people come here for better jobs and higher wages *because* they are low in Turkey. I treat them as such, because it’s not bad to want a better life, it’s actually admirable. Instead of treating them like I own the country. That is not how a Christian should behave - who am I to make a person feel unwelcome. It’s not my land. I could die tomorrow and have to explain to God how I treated His children on His land. And that’s for people who *chose* to be an immigrant. Refugees didn’t chose. Do you know how hard it is to be a refugee? Then on top of it you are treated like you are unwelcome. You know what it’s like to be a child that feels like that? Think about that. Think about how your attitude affects these people and their children more importantly. How should they see themselves? As Turks? When they are constantly treated like outsiders that aren’t welcome? It’s very sad. Turks have heritage form other countries. I know Turks with Greek and Bulgarian heritage. This isn’t that different. Immigration is not new. Have some compassion for people that didn’t even chose it. And those illegal immigrants - think about why they *had* to leave. It’s not that different. When did you have to leave your country for your family’s safety? What would you do in that position. You think it’s easy - you just do some paperwork and become a refugee? No.
@@missNCW I think you misunderstood anything I said tbh because I'm not calling the 6 - 9 million immigrants a nuisance, but there's a difference between having racist sentiments and stating facts, the migration crises, that UK and the US created in Syria has caused huge refugee crises in Turkey. It's not normal for a singular country to take on that many people. As a Turk, our people mostly do not speak any other language simply because we have never had colonisers to teach us their language. We didn't force any other people to learn turkish either. That is why there is no other country in the lands of former turkic empires' lands that are speaking turkish other than turkey and other turkic countries.
as a British I studied turks for a long time, and I now that Turkey occupied the northern part of Kurdistan, even they don’t have right to speak and study their language, I’m expecting that you gonna deny it as most of turks do, however Kurdish people have parliament members, anyone speak in Kurdish they put him in jail.
@@RaGRoG904 First off the term "kurdistan" is a fairly new term that was invented by british to carve up the ottoman empire in early 20th century. Before that there is little to none kurdish states that have lived longer then a person's lifetime. Historically "kurdish people" you refer to are known as northwestern farsi tribes that speak a dialect of classical farsi that is commonly used in the time of early turkic conquests of the area. There are tons of historical maps (even from the crusaders) that refer to those lands as turkish lands or more specifically turkmen lands since muslim turks were called turkmen at the time. Even salahaddin was a general of a turkic empire. He spoke arabic and turkish. His brothers names are turkic. This new effort to create a kurdish identity is just to disturb peace in turkey and create a pawn to control the area through them. This was a joint effort started by british, french and later on russia. After a while USA joined in. There are literally no mention of kurdish lands in no archives in the world written before 1850's. Printing press was invented in 1400's I dare you to find me a single document referring to those areas as kurdish before 1850. About kurdish language. Kurdish language is not mutually intelligable even between different villages. Again there is no mention of kurdish records, poems, poets or anything in kurdish language written before 1850. Also kurdish was never specifically banned. You can speak in any language in Turkey but official language is turkish. Neither government nor people has to learn and use an artificial language just to appease colonisers like yourself. Just a few weeks ago a woman tried to talk in kurdish in the parliament. The only punishment she got was her microphone getting muted. Her name is beritan güneş altın. You can look up her speech in 21st of February 2024. You will see how she is not in jail despite having proven connections to the terrorist pkk. You keep creating enemies with the illusion of being protected by the sea. Someday your people and your country will pay dearly for your ancestors crimes and I assure you, we are not as kind as germans. @Balanding1 Learning the language is a show of goodwill and a good step, but not integrating into cultural norms will always result in you keeping being a "yabancı" in your term. If you don't plan to live the rest of your life in Turkey, then of course I don't expect you to adopt the culture, but if you are, you should. Turkey has fairly high genetic diversity. As long as you don't stick out with your behaviour, you won't face discrimination.
I totally agree. I came in Türkiye 7 years ago through the scholarship that you mentioned. Believe me if I would not have had that scholarship it would have been impossible for me(us) to survive. Back than it was affordable I could say but the last 3 years have been insanely tough 🙄 . Add to this that we had to move from dormitory into an apartment due to our baby and family start... rough times, yes. But the city is amaaaazing, so much to explore, the history, the mosques and the islamic education opportunities( for kids too) attract you so much ❤. I am from iran. it's been 3 years that i study here. I think young people can speak English. Only old people can't speak like my parents, it's normal. I think still turkey is cheaper than many countries. I love turkey, lovely people. I swear to God I haven't seen any racist people. They're always so nice. They like when i speak turkish😅 if you respect their culture they respect you back.

I am nervous about classes not being in English, I read online sometimes professors don't teach in English and students/professors get frustrated when you ask them to teach English. I don't know Turkish very well, it will take me a year or two to learn it to a good level. Do you think they will teach in English? I will be going to Yeditepe.
Hello Amina, I agree most of what you are suggesting. However, there are excellent public private universities that medium language is English..These included: Bogazi university, ODT(Middle East Technical University ), Istanbul Tech University and others are amongst the top best universities in Turkey thought in English fully. As a graduate from one of these universities it needs to have SAT exam for undergraduate and GRE or GMAT for postgraduate students. Overall, I would also suggest foreign students to study prestigious private universities such as Bilent university , Koç University, Sabanci University, TOBB, Bilgi university and Bahcesahir University. These are the best if you are interested and went to have a good education experience.
To be fair, the reason the majority of Turks not speaking another language is not because they see Turkish as superior to other languages. It is simply because the foreign language classes here in school are very poor and not well organized. You would have to go to a private school to be able to speak English and those type of schools are expensive. Everyday people here, don't speak good English and lower class people hardly even know English. Another factor is that foreign language courses are also expensive. Also, keep in mind that half of Turks don't own a passport and even if they do, our passport is weak and traveling to a foreign country to speak in a foreign language is not easy for everyone. It's not like in Europe where you can travel within the continent in a matter of hours and access different languages all the time.
Sister i am from somali but i live in Germany for numpers of year so most of European country do not want to communicate with another language if you speak english in German or France you face problem they do not speak evan the places of government if you need issue for government and do not know their language you have to go with translater that is compulsory anyway evan public uni they used for thier language.
I think there is a big difference because Germans know English but they prefer to communicate in their language but in Turkiye they don't not know English and the only option is speaking Turkish!
At the end, it were Doctors in Türkiye who saved my mother and NOT GERMAN HOSPITALS. Elhamdullillah it were the Turkish doctors there who just with a check up for sth. else, found the tumor that the German doctors in the country I was born and raised in Germany could not find. At the end of the day, it is Türkiye who raises a lot of good doctors. There is a reason why people cry to go to Hacettepe University. You say it is not a muslim country, but sister can't you see, how much students in Europe struggle ? They do not hear the call to prayer , they do not have prayer rooms in universities.No one understands when they fast and eat but there is nothing to eat at our time at the cafeteria at uni. With this video title you will probably create storm similar to that Syrian Banana fiasco and I would personally suggest to choose your words wisely. There are a lot of people who are struggling in that country and titles like this can feed into their negative energy and thus will foster unnecessary tension between peoples. Turks in general are good people and from their meagre resources they help a lot of poor countries and provide scholarships to student from underdeveloped countries which you already noted in the video. Perhaps one should encourage more students to come to Turkiye if they can afford because that will enable universities to give more scholarships to the under privileged students. The cost of living numbers you put out is nothing with respect to the quality of education you are getting compared to many other parts of the world and mind you live in a modern city that is comparable to London or Paris. Also tell me anywhere in Europe from Romania, Czech republic to Hungary that do not have some of the challenges you mentioned and not also beyond your reach in terms of costs and etc? Probably Ukraine was the only place in turkiye's proximity that could have challenged turkiye in terms of price and that does not exist anymore because of the war.

if you ever travelled around europe you know that besides the countries who speak germanic languages no one speaks english . Only colonized countries like america ,australia,india ,south eastern asians, arabs speak english well. If you want to study abroad you have to pick countries that have english as their official language. In europe ,even if they speak english well for example like germans their universities are %100 german . You have to learn german if you want to go to germany and you have to learn turkish if you want to live in turkey . Its not like when you go to a place like UAE and everyone is international and speaking english . Turkey is a turkish country and is very bonded to their values.

While some might label this as racism, it is our belief that certain prejudices are necessary to protect our nation. Given our country's strategic location, we must be vigilant about threats, wars, and terrorist organizations. Although Turkey is a secular country, the influx of predominantly Muslim refugees has caused concern among secular citizens, feeling as though their lifestyle is under threat. This is partly because of the scrutiny faced by many women, and men as well, over their degree of religious observance, often judged by their attire. Additionally, the presence of refugees and foreigners is blamed for the rise in living costs, notably housing prices, which skyrocket due to the high occupancy rates in single dwellings by these groups, thus placing Turkish families in financial hardship. You are right but I think only uneducated Turks will behave like that. Anyone who is well educated, exposed and travel the world will understand where she is coming from. A good citizen should accept the wrong of his country, and be happy about the good of it as well. I also have a question regarding the medical schools in Turkey not Being listed on the world Directory of medical school, do you seem to have any idea why is that? Apparently a particular medical school has to be listed on the WDMS to practice medicine elsewhere, at least in the UK it has to be recognized by th WDMS.
My cousin studied medicine in Turkey and went to work in Kenya. She got scholarship to work there. The first thing She learned the language and became fluent. She put her head down and only focused on her studies. She did want to move to the U.K. at some point, but decided to settle in Kenya. She could have also worked in Dubai but she didn’t like it there. Obviously she had to take some exams before working in Kenya, just like with any other country. So best to call whatever university you wish to apply to and see whether their qualification is recognised.

But unfortunately, things are a bit different and complicated when it comes to applying to practice medicine in the UK, EU, AUS, CAD, US and in some parts of America, you are required to take their medical licencing exam( PLAB 1&2- UK, USMLE - US and etc) to be allowed to work in their country and to be able to take those exams your degree must be recognized and registered in their country which is done by GMC (UK), ECFMG( USA) and AMC( AUS) and these councils will only count you eligible if your medical degree is recognized by WHO and listed on th WDMS. So there is no point in contacting a specific medical school in such case as it's not up to them.
First of all, until recently, its not every country that promoted english or French or use it as an official language. Just like Tanzania alot of people speak swahili so it can be difficult figuring things out. Unfortunately as africans we think everyone put importance of english or French, so we are surprised when we go to countries like Turkey, China Germany, even Italy that is why these countries require you to take language courses. Living conditions in Turkey differ, but its more expensive and difficult when you come to Istanbul. Istanbul is a commercial city so everything is money, and you are more likely not to meet traditional turks if you're there. Istanbul, according to me is like new york, like there are so many people from different places, you have bad foreigners and good foreigners, bad turks and good ones too. Its like most people just try to make money, so its important to not trust anyone. As for the money alot of people will attack you because you are from an African country and think your money is worse, so why are you complaining. The past years have been difficult, in terms of economy in most countries especially developing countries, it's even worse. One thing people don't think about when choosing courses to study is where you can practice. Example i remember my dad told me if you want to study Law, or jobs in health departments it better you do it in your country because of the exams you may have to take after. Or make sure you write those exams while studying.

You will see that most European countries have their own languages, not even English. Germany, Italy, France, Russia when you hear these countries, does English come to your mind? The point is if you are planning to go to a non English speaking country, just do your research well.
Canakkale on sekiz mart universitesi is public and they offer certain undergrad degrees with 90% of classes in English . If they have in Canakkale degrees in English it is impossible to not have in Istanbul. Plus if you go in a foreign country ,how you not going to learn the language of that country it is embarrassing. wrong information! there are also public universities who teach in english, medicine. yildirim beyazit university or gazi university in Ankara have English options, also Cerrahpaşa university in ıstanbul. all public and free, while also English.

But to be honest, I am really scared after the last situation I heard there (I mean, how some people there treat Arabs). I want to come from Palestine, and I am a hijabi girl, and I will come alone. So, please, can you advise me and be honest about everything there? Is there racism against hijabi girls? Is it safe for Arabs, especially girls? And of course, how do you see METU students and the environment on campus too? how people are there in Ankara. In my university which is Hacettepe, diversity is mostly welcomed. Ofc you may experience racism. Stupid People are everywhere. I heard there are lots of Arabs in METU as well. So you are not the only one. I have friends there too who are hijabi. As Amina said Turkey is secular. Just respect the culture. I hope you won’t experience any discrimination.

@@aminaismayl as you said depends on the university usually in public universities yos or sat is mandatory yet many of them require TOEFL(yildiz teknik) or you do their profeciency english test or many accept IELTS and TOEFL (like Bogazici)
I hear the 3 "cons" you shared here and would like to offer comments: 1. Turkish people were not colonialized, therefore, they did not have to learn English. It is regarded as a privilege although I appreciate the hardship on the foreigners. Can you find any happiness for the Turkish people in your heart that they stayed self sufficient and preserved their language all along? Isn't it more like all the other developed countries where you would have to know their language to live/study there? Except, you already know English or French because they are the colonizers?!? 2. Turkish lira is "shit" you say but it currently ranks 5 times better than the Kenyan shilling. So, I wonder why it is a problem for you. I would expect that you would want it to be even shittier, like 5 times shittier than it is, since it would make things more affordable for you. 3. Working without a work permit is illegal, forcing the foreigners get paid under the table which drops the pay rate and cause abuse, what were you expecting? This would be the case in every country I'm afraid. So, what is your point?

Dear Amina, I'm not saying you said anything bad. I'm commenting on the 3 cons you mentioned. I'm not negating them, in fact I'm acknowledging these 3 issues. However, I'm just expanding on them to allow more insight and I'm also inquiring with specific questions as to why these are problems, because it doesn't make sense for someone from Kenya to complain that Turkish lira is a low currency because wouldn't it be to your benefit when it is low? Also, calling Turkish "as if it is the holly grail" is a missed opportunity to acknowledge the historical context behind it that is celebrated by Muslims.
No need for you to get defensive.. I'm not disagreeing, the 3 issues you are raising are accurate. However, I'm just pointing out that these 3 issues are irrelevant for a potential foreign student considering to study in Turkiye. Why? 1. Turkish currency being low is a problem for the Turkish people but a great thing for the foreign student because your money goes further now. 2. Low wages is not relevant for a foreign student, this is a Turkish people problem because foreign people are not allowed to work and students are there to graduate and leave, so again not an applicable point. 3. Turkish people don't speak any other language just like other developed countries that were NOT colonized. This is just a fact people going to a foreign land is prepared to deal with... what is the point? 4. I'll add another comment you made about some people being mean to you. Isn't this a universal problem? This is irrelevant because everywhere you go, you will find all kinds of people.
1.English is a global language and pretty much spoken everywhere. Its the language of internal business, medicine and the like. 2. The lira is shit, its very week and inflation mskes it even worse 3. She didnt say she wanted to work illegally. May countries let their foreign students work while studying. It helps with costs. She said there is not opportunity to work. Lack of money affects her day to day when you cant even chose to eat good food because its so expensive
For your info sister even here in the Western countries it is very hard to get a job. So don't come with the perception that you can pay your studies and living cost by depending on getting a job while studying. Be prepared with enough funds to finish your studies without part-time jobs.
I completed Bachelor of Science in Soil and Environmental Sciences dept. under Bioscience faculty.I wanted to go to Turkey just because of the halal food ,to get to practice my religious values by wearing hijab and so on because its a muslim country.I wanted to move there with my parents after I get a job.I thought even though the language is different but the cultural along with religious values there will be almost same as my parents has and thus it'll be easier for them to cope up.But after listening this,I'm confused.
The religious aspect is good alhamdulillah, there are mosques everywhere we hear the adhaan every salah alhamdulillah, ramadhan is a struggle though coz not every mosque do taraweeh and tahajjud prayer and also they do it differently, I would advise try another Muslim country and also pray istikhara if it’s qeyr for you turkey is decent country.
I don’t advise you of you and your family can’t speak or have ability to learn turkish language is very hard most of the people is hard to deal with especially if you don’t know turkish they might take advantage and increase the price or treat you in racist way go to malaysia 🇲🇾 indonesia 🇮🇩 its so clean understanding everyone speaking English the most very welcoming modern and have beautiful nature and schools

As I Turkish woman who has experienced to lived in Turkey and USA, no, she is not exaggerating about smoking. Smoking is the big issue in Turkey. I am not a smoker and every time I visit my country, I disturb the smell of the cigarette even walking at the public parks. I also heard the same complaint from many foreigners . Another complaints are car prices and gas prices by the way :) I can add high residential property prices also
