I think your team should update that site more often. And some deal links aren't the best, as example, for 99% customers, Legion pro 5i from Lenovo US will cost lot less now than B&H you linked to.
This for sure! Got a 2023 m18 r2 with i9-14900hx, 4090 175w, 64gb ram, and 4tb ssd on sale for $2800 new. Couldn't be happier, set for the next 4+ years ez 😁
Core Ultra can be really attractive to quite a lot of people though. Its iGPU performance is far better than anything Intel has ever offered in the integrated graphics scene, and the new core architecture seems like it's very efficient, compared to the old Core i3/i5/i7/i9 CPUs.
Yeah, 100% definitely agree with this video. More OLED and MiniLED screen options this year is great to see but with no Ryzen 8000HX CPUs yet and other CPUs and GPUs really just refreshes, its definitely tough to otherwise justify buying a 2024 laptop.
Yeap, and the best part is that I can just buy the Scar 16 2024 panel and install it in my Scar 16 2023 and essentially have the same laptop for around 200 USD.
#5 - Not many people probably knows about this, but since AMD released FSR the community have already developed an FSR mod which give you basically free fps in your old laptop with old GPUs (like RTX 2000s/3000s, anything below isn't really preferred). I know this because few months ago I was searching for a new laptop (a replacement to my Legion 5 Pro 3060 that I bought 2 years ago) because games have been increasingly demanding, but thanks to this mod it basically extended the lifespan of my aging laptop for like another year or 2. FSR3.1 is also coming this year (integrated into some of the newer titles).
@@HandleIsNewAndBadNot 100% true but I partially agree. If you play AAA games like me you will start to notice that games are catching up with the laptop hardware recently especially my laptop's specs (eg. Horizon FW in my laptop can't consistently keep the fps on 60 average - w/o framegen but with DLSS). I fear that I won't be able to run Ghost of Tsushima aswell. If you play AA or Indie titles then true, you're good for atleast 2 - 5 years more.
same here mate I discovered this channel like 3 years ago, and I remember being obsessed with wanting a Legion 5 Pro(2022) variant with a 3060 on it. But here I am.. Guess it ain't for everyone.
Great timing. I have been hesitant on getting too excited on some of the 2023 gaming laptop deals already out there due to seeing the newer CPU models arriving. Now I feel better about snagging a deal when it feels right. Cheers!
Hello Jarrod I would love to know what you think about snagging a 3060 model in this day and age? I have been watching your videos since 2021 and you have always said that the 3060 was the sweet spot for gaming back until the 4000 series came around. The prices for the 2023 model here are bad and what's even shocking is that the older 2022 and even 2021 models for godsake is still terrible. Literally 1000+$ for an rtx 3060. I still haven't bought a laptop but I feel like my current non gaming one will die out very soon. @@JarrodsTech
@@jupiteruniverse8683if u don't need it right now, feel free to wait for next gen launch, for some reason rtx 40 series helped by frame gen not by raw performance But if u need it right now rtx 3060 still quite good I'd like to upgrade to rtx 50 series next year from my rtx 3050
@@jupiteruniverse8683I have 3060 HP Omen. It was purchased two years back for 1300 USD. It still works like new. I only play Halo Infinite which it is capable of running at medium settings and high enough frame rates. Game runs well. Heating well controlled. Gaming on a budget. It has only 6 GB VRAM so it cannot run modern heavy graphic titles at fancier high or ultra graphics settings. But still , considering that is a luxury as is gaming in itself, 3060 is alright and I believe need not to spend more, unless one is a professional and does competitive gaming. Medium graphics also look beautiful. If you only have to play games then better get a desktop than a gaming laptop, better performance at lower price.
So this guy says don't buy a gaming laptop but then 3 months later he's making a video saying what one's to buy? Jarrod get your shit together you goof!
He didn’t say not to buy a gaming laptop. He said not to buy a 2024 laptop. But people are still going to buy 2024 laptops so naturally he made a video to help people decide.
@@D4RKCOMETPLAYSThose look nice... screen is great, but seems that games benchmark lower than others with the same specs is why I didn't like it. I don't know if its they use lower wattage, or it just has to throttle more for cooling, but there is always a draw back to being too thin and light when you need more cooling.
@@D4RKCOMETPLAYS That's true, but a 4090 in such a thin chasis is going to perform horrendously and at a reduced factory speed due to thermal throttling. Don't buy 4090 laptops, use a lower powered GPU like 4070 instead.
They are fresh so they cost more money. Performance increase is minimal. Most of them come with win 11 installed. There are no good ones yet that hit that bang for your buck spot real nice.
Do people even look at the year of a loptop? Do'nt most people just compare the componatns and performance and of course the price? That would mean anyone would come to these conclusions.
I update my laptop every other GPU generation (~4-5 years). I love my Asus M16 3060 and not looking to update until 50XX or AMD equivalent, so that's at least one more year.
yeah, I think some people look to upgrade too often. I have a Legion with a RTX 3080 in it from 2021, and it still slays everything I've needed it to... never felt like I needed something better yet. I'll probably be looking more at 2026 for an upgrade.
Same. My Legion 7i with 3080ti is pretty decent even for today's games. I will probably upgrade when the 6080 or 6090 comes out. But then again, I might have a desktop by that time.
I ended up buying an HP Omen 16 (2021) with i7 11g and RTX 3070 in 2024. 😂 Plays everything I throw at it at Medium/High settings in 1080p/1440p on average.
i am not gonna wait ANOTHER year. i'm just waiting for march and buy a beefed up 2023 model for a lowered price. i've been procrastinating for 4 years now. my laptop had a gtx 1050ti. its OLD.
One advice I can give you is to buy the laptop you want in one go and don't settle for less. Too many times I bought a cheaper laptop than the one I wanted, ended up selling it for a loss, and buying what I really wanted at the end.
what about the new Legion 7i? got new better cooling and screen options. And also at least in the UK (easter sale) price for 2024 model is cheaper then 2023 Legion 7 slim
I think I'll wait for rtx 5000 laptops. Since the 4050 is too weak, the 4060 price is far from 4050 and close to 4070, and the 4070 only has 8gb vram, all this while older 3070, 3070 ti, 3080 leftovers models are being sold cheap although with no framegen. Would rather wait for 5000 series for no compromises
In Europe RTX 3000 laptops are more expensive than RTX 4000 series. For 999 € we can have a I5 12450H + RTX 4060 8G HP Victus laptop. For a model with RTX 3060 add 300 more euros. But things gets worse as things are no more logical. Laptops with 3050 at 1400€, laptops with 4050 at 900€.. The shops are making this very confusing, nothing are correlated.
Reason 4: some are removing expandability. Like the Asus G14 doesn't have an upgradable RAM slot this year, but last year's has one. I have 48GB of RAM in my 2023 G14 and it's great for photo editing
The only laptop i would recomend is Legion 5 Slim rtx 4060 140w, bought it for 800 euro brand new from store, crazy good laptop for gaming and everything else. Using it with a 32 inch 144 Hz 1440p monitor and i'm more than pleased
I got my acer nitro 17 at the very end of 2023. Wasn’t sure if it was a good decision because I figured new laptops would come out in a few months and I would’ve just ended up regretting not waiting. Glad to see I made a good choice and I’m totally happy with it.
I was glad to be able to get a 2022 Lenovo Legion 7 (with AMD Ryzen 5900HX & NVidia RTX 3080) for only $1,700+. The current pricing of high-end laptops is getting absolutely ludicrous.
I almost pulled the trigger on Scar 18 which would've put be back 1000 dollars more than the 2023 version. In the end I ended up getting neither because why not just wait for the new GPUs and CPUs?
A friend of mine recently asked me "Hey. What kind of laptop should I upgrade to? My laptop has R7 3750H and GTX 1650, and I recently got back into gaming. I just hate meddling with the settings (and he wants to mostly max out stuff). I want something where I'll mostly NOT touch the settings apart from the High/Very High presets. I have like 2K EUR rn, but I can save more in a few more months". Immediately I was like "get a desktop" but he outright refused, he is a mobile person. Looking at the options, 4070 laptops look in his budget(ish) etc, but THAT 8GB VRAM, I JUST CAN'T RECOMMEND IT TO HIM ONLY TO BE A "BAD FRIEND" IN A YEAR OR TWO, WHEN HE'S F#$KED BY VRAM LIMITATIONS. 4080 (and above) laptops are WAY too expensive. If only 4070 had 12GB VRAM, I'd have easily recommended it to him. Wish Nvidia could do a bit of a "Super refresh" for laptops and bring more VRAM to midrange GPUSs, otherwise it'll be a LONG wait until the next gen laptop GPUs come out 🫠
Gaming Laptops have improved so they don't die out as they use to buy getting 'cooked'. But Gaming Laptops seem to have motherboard issues to this date. I still think though, that normal notebooks and thin and light laptops are the better choice for most people. Gaming Laptops have rather become very good, but they are clumsy machines and still niche. More a portable desktop. Now even laptops are old school and tablets and smartphones, and may be in future VR are going to be the dominant devices for the masses. Otherwise enthusiasts still build custom PCs.
I am waiting for laptops coming with eGPU like the Asus Rog Flow. I saw that in China people are using the Lenovo Thinkbook as laptop and connects external GPUs through the Pcie of the laptop. So i am waiting for that to become more professional
You didn't mention the new Intel Ultra processors. I wanted an Alienware x16, Ultra9 but they have disappointing configuration limitations, as they do with the M16. Being as the M16 is soldered, and I can get 64GB of ram...I went with that. I had some lengthy shipping issues and I decided to have the order canceled (rerouted to Dell's US facility) for a full refund. I'm going to wait. I will only buy Alienware or Origin PC laptops so I'll wait until Alienware comes up with a decent screen brightness and less configuration limitations.
To me none of them are worth it now. With everything soldered on the motherboard, a life expectancy of at most 4 years and no one offering micro soldering repair, if something happens outside warranty you are doomed to replacing the whole computer.
With the handheld PC's getting better and more popular, they make even less sense unless you want to play the latest and greatest near max settings for like a year.
Hey Jarrod, I plan on getting a gaming laptop soon and I can't pick between the HP VICTUS 15 FB1013dx and the HP VICTUS 15 FA1093dx, the 2nd one is a bit more expensive (around 60-90 dollars) but has more VRAM - a better cpu and gpu, so what do you recommend? Note: I can't spend any more than this
Alright so I'll list the specs quickly, the first one has an AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS, it comes with 8gb ram upgradable to 32gb (DDR5 4800 MHz) and comes with a 512gb SSD upgradable to 2TB. It comes with an RYX 2050 (4gb) around 50W TGP. The 2nd one however which is a bit more expensive is the 2023 model which comes with an i5-13420H RTX 3050 6gb VRAM 75W TGP, aside from that it comes with DDR4 instead of DDR5 - everything else is pretty much the same. So is it worth spending 60-90 more dollars on it or would I be better off getting the 2050 AMD Ryzen 7535HS? I'll have to use this laptop for the next 4 years. @@JarrodsTech
My 2021 Zephyrus has so many issues, gotten to the point where I bought a new Lenovo this month. Cheaper and much faster then the 2021 Zephyrus so its a win for me lol
I recently bought a new Dell G16 7630 (from your deals link) and while I could have waited for new 2024 models from different brands to go on sale, I jumped at the chance to grab a laptop with an I9,4070 and 32gb of ram for the same price as most mid tier set up's. Really excited for when it finally arrives!
Listening Jarrod's video in Hindi really took me back in time when we used to watch Hindi-Dubbed Hollywood Movies, Shows on National Geographic and Discovery Channel!
I sold my 3050 Ti 4GB gaming laptop at the start of this year and put the money towards a desktop with a 5600 and a 6750 XT and it cost around the same as the laptop did but blows it out of the water.
and that's fine. Not everyone has the space to get a desktop, nor the time to build a desktop, nor have available parts for such a good desktop, though.
Why there is almost no 2024 gaming laptop with Intel Ultra 9 185H ? It should drain less power than 13th/14th H series with equivalent performance. For instance Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i has a full 100W 2175 Mhz 4070 in a thin chassis this year and performs very well. Same for Zephyrus G16. I am the only one who want a good gaming device with a bit of power efficiency and design in mind ?
Well, because intel cpus still suck in terms of battery life. If you wanted a laptop with good battery the only choice you have is ryzen since the core ultra cpus run horribly on lower wattage
Why on Earth I cannot hear the original audio, but a Mexican girl speaking Spanish over your voice, Jarrod?? Have I activated something on my computer? 18 years on RU-vid and I have never seen such a thing... :O
2021 notebook with 3060 ,can catch up with 2024 notebook with 4060. I dont feel a need to upgrade for this year too. If the market tries the apple thing - sell the same shit, more money... then they don't catch up with me at all.. lol they lose me
it's sad when i see those good deals on your website for 2023 models, but delivery to uk costs Subtotal: $1,529.00 Shipping: $63.41 Duties & Taxes : $324.85 You Pay: $1,917.26
Yeah I upgraded for a MiniLED screen... probably didnt need for sure but my old 2070 Super laptop was starting to show its age so felt like time and didnt want to wait another year.
i just bought mine following your website. almost went to the official website for their deal which is still $200-400 more expensive then your listing. you save me some bucks!!!!
I have a Legion 5 Pro with 5800H/3070 and I really want to upgrade but I can't find any new laptops that fit my needs since 4K laptops are pretty much not made at this point (I get that it doesn't make sense since a 4K screen is hard to drive on a laptop) Basically what I want is 16+ size screen and 4K+ screen with a refresh of at least 120Hz - it doesn't even need to have a dedicated video card or powerful CPU since it's mainly for media consumption.
Being a tech influencer U r too honest ❤ In our country infuencers & reviewers are just money grabbers. I was gonna buy a high end rig for university purpose but now its best to wait for 50 series
I have rog with ryzen 5900 and 3070 - year 2021. I am very happy with it and don't think for change - even more as rtx line 40 is not a big upgrade above 30 line.
I always look forward in you reviewing other types of laptops apart from gaming laptop. Not all of us are interested in gaming laptops. Some of us only play Fifa on our ps5
3060 models on the used market have reached under $600. Snagged one for $540US. And it has x8 RAM. Instant win in my book. Model is a MSI GF65 Thin. Im used to desktops but this thing still holds up just fine for its 1080p/144hz screen. 🤘
I'm using an year old 3060 Legion 5, and it still rocks. Game performance is literally same since launch, and I don't expect games to get demanding in this console generation.
You are exactly right Jared. I have been seeing huge discounts on Lenovo and Asus gaming laptops. There are 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, 4070’s available for $1500 and 4060’s for $1000 (16GB RAM though). Insane value right now on 2023 models
Last gen models are getting phased out. Very limited options. But luckily Lenovo/Asus and Acer have provide some actually great value for money RTX 4050 and 4060 options. The efficiency of these 40 series models means they provide similar gaming performance to last gen Full powered 3060/70 laptops which were more expensive that these new 40 series laptops cost now! Lenovo LOQ 4050/4060, TUF F15 12700H 4060, Acer's Nitro V/16 4060 have actually brought tangible value for money increase as this level of performance was generally more expensive in 2022/2023. Yea but 4070 messes up the whole stack.
Some seem to have large differences. Take the Alienware X16 for example, last year you could get the 13900HK, and max a 4080, but this year you can get the Ultra 9 processor 185H & 4090
1) No new cpu's 2) laps from 24 has same performance as laps frm 23. 3) don't spent huge money on laps 4) wait and buy a new lap as it may have new features
joining the military and the one thing i need to keep my sanity is my video games, just gonna buy one of the top laptops to keep me alright for the years to come
I just got a 2023 Strix G16 with a 4070, i9-13980, 1TB SSD, and 16GB of DDR5 for $1800 last week. I already had another 1TB SSD lying around so I threw that in, and I can upgrade my RAM to 32GB of DDR5 for less than $100. That essentially puts me at the same specs as the 2024 4070 G16 for several hundred dollars less. No brainer.
Depends on the tdp of the cards too. If that 3080ti is 150w+ and most 4070 cards I see in laptops these days are well under 120w, it's a no brainer to go for the 3080ti. And that 16gb will save you down the road as these hungry games that love to eat vram up even at lower resolutions keep coming out. Barely much games support FG too and when you do use it, it is cool but adds some serious latency lol. My 4090M was doing about 110-140 maxed out 1440p with RT on Returnal, and at like 2.1ms render latency. Turn on FG and yea I was getting well over 200fps but my latency shot up to 23.5ms and I could feel it instantly in my mouse the delay lol. Ain't worth it imo unless it's a real casual game that doesn't need reflexes/ or isn't a MP game either.
I completely agree. I just purchased an Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 (2023) with an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS and RTX 4080 GPU. I saved money compared to the 2024 model, and just found out that the newer model has dialed down the wattage of the GPU. I am happy with my purchase.
I got a 3060 laptop in late 2021 and it's still holding up pretty well. By my estimates in two more years I'll be upgrading to a new machine, but mostly because of my 11400h CPU which is showing its age by now.
Just got the slim 7i 4060 for $1290 USD, I remember buying Helios 300 for similar price 3 years ago with 1660ti, but the quality of Legion is on a whole new level. Lets hope for a better 2025.
