IMO when driving machine screws into threaded holes, start with a screwdriver, you'll get a feel for if the threading is going properly. Drill drivers won't give you any feedback and have too much power before you'll realise you're cross threaded.

I Have just installed one of these on a Grp roof. Absolutely the best sky lantern i have seen and had the pleasure to install. A little tip for the fascia/glass trim. fairy liquid it first to ease the trim onto the glass

Hi Rog great video, the Korniche lantern is definitely the best system out there, fitted plenty and it’s such a nicely made product! Get your hands on some Bohle suction lifters (not that expensive makes it a lot easier glazing up 👍🏻 top work

I was thinking the same, pretty sure you can rent them. I don't think workplace health and safety would even let you carry glass like that up a extension ladder. I know we live in an overley cotton ball wrapped world, but that would have been such an easy accident.

As a mechanic it always make me wince seeing people starting bolts with an impact or any other motor driven driver. Nothing beats starting your bolts off by hand as you know when you have crossed the thread and can back the bolt off and try again with no damage & then finishing them off with the tool of your choice as once you cross thread a bolt you will soon realize the extra time to start them by hand was well worth it. I would have thought the manufacturer of this lantern would have specified torques for those bolts? Power tools are so powerful nowadays especially impact guns that it is very easy to strip the threads with them as you don't know how much torque the tool is applying.
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder 2 года назад
Actually I should have mentioned that the taper on the head lines the bolts up perfectly. They also go into steel threads. The correct torque is when the gap is closed.

Not sure how big this one is but I’ve just fitted one to a conservatory at my house that’s 4m x 2.75m. Because it’s a conservatory not an orangery so very slim roof round it, and access issues we had to put the glass in from inside. Out through the opening, twist, and lower into position. That was challenging, and not something I’m in a hurry to repeat!

Funny I was just watching another UK channel Homebuilding and Renovation where he fits a 2.4m x 3m lantern. They did the plaster first into the upstand but strangely didnt finish the top. So with the lantern in the framing is still exposed and you can see the unfinished edge from inside the addition. Very odd. You guys did well putting that together. Metal is very unforgiving if something is even a fraction out, and wrapped in jackets made me feel cold just watching it even here in sunny Australia.

Kerb should be 12mm narrower than lantern according to Korniche. All the ones I’ve seen you build have the kerb flush with the lantern, when the lantern should overhang by 6mm all round. Doubt it makes a huge difference, but I’m sure Korniche give that instruction for a reason.
@SkillBuilder
@SkillBuilder Год назад
To be honest we found that opening size to be the most difficult bit to understand. The 6mm either side was to allow for a membrane and some adhesive as far as we could see. I will check

Looks really good! Evidently a slight loss in insulation over flat skylights. Couldn’t find much (any?) uptake in the US, but they look like they would be a great improvement over flat and domed skylights on low-slope (flat) roofs.
