Brilliant to see the kids out. My kid has been riding with me since he was 4. He's now 13 and patiently waiting for me at the bottom of runs - all those rides and memories are so precious.
Thanks Nic! I also ride with my daughter at least once a week. She's on the middle school mountain bike team. There's nothing better than skiing and biking with my kids!!
I just got so excited seeing you and your boy riding together. What a shredder. It makes me really excited for the day I can ride with my kids on these trails
Riding and skiing with my wife and children are my absolute favorite things! You can’t get more quality time than climbing up on a single track or sitting on the lifts with your kids at the ski resort. Priceless!!
I bought a ripmo af a few months ago and loving it,just bought my wife one and hers came with carbon bars, new gen 3 topaz, z1 coil fork which rides real nice and a nice dissector,dhr2 combo. Well done ibis
Those boys are fearless! I had to laugh because I’m one of those over 50 guys that had never hit the gap on Jacobs. With that said, I just picked up my new Custom built Ripley from Jason at Salt Cycles and heading to Moab in the morning. Maybe will try the gap if Ripley is as playful they say. Absolutely loved the fall colors segment on Rush!
You should do a Ripmo AF review with the build that’s on sale with the Bomber Z1 coil fork. Waiting patiently for my SLX build. Was apprehensive about the coil fork but after doing some research I think I’ll love it. Keep up the good work. You’re my go to when buying a new bike. That testing track you run the bikes on makes your reviews super consistent.
This is the exact model I bought a month ago. I had apprehension about the weight of the fork. I can happily admit I was completely wrong. The only time the bike feels heavy is when I pick it up. It climbs better and feels lighter that I would have ever guessed. My only regret is not getting one sooner. Enjoy your new ride!
@@curtislavoie2242 Nice. Does it feel super supple on small bumps? Looking forward to the added traction with the coil. Especially in the winter riding with the wet roots.
@@LoamerMTB Absolutely, I was riding a Ripley AF with a 140 Pike. Not a bad set up, but my confidence and down hill corner speed are much improved on the Bomber.
"Just go, you'll be fine, mom did this!!! " ---- lol lol lol, I was dying when I heard you say that. tho normally I tell my kids - dont tell mom I said to do that
Haha yeah, funny!! Honestly, When it comes to skiing, dirt biking and riding mountain bikes I really trust this 10 year olds internal gauge as to whether or not he can do something. Rarely do I need to motivate him to do something sketchy and he’s become a really good rider this season. It’s been a lot of fun to see him progress! Super excited for next year!
Great video Jason. So cool to see you riding that trail with your son. Many years of riding to come. I enjoy riding trails with my Dad who's 74. He has just gone to an ebike. Pressure on me to pedal harder now. 🤣 Neither of us would hit that gap I don't think. 🤔
haha that's awesome. So cool you guys still ride together and he's still riding into his 70's!!! So cool! I love hearing stories like this. I wish my Dad was still riding with me.
Love Salt Cycles thanks to finding them from your videos! My Switchblade they built up is amazing and should be pulling trigger very soon if not sooner on a Ripley build thanks to your suggestions! And btw your boys rip! I've only hit that gap a couple times. Many times I wimp out and veer right lol
Thank you for your stellar videos! I particularly enjoy the Ibis content and seeing the two boys. They can shred! I also feel for you as you sorta squirm and describe how much you enjoy the Ripley without putting the Yeti down. I like most of the others also but I built a Ripmo AF and I am thinking of building a Ripley AF. Would that be a good move in that I would ride both of them equally?
How poppy is the Ripmo compared to the 130LR? I feel like the SB130LR likes staying on the ground when compared to the my SB140, which is much easier to get in the air (at least for me). I was just curious about the Ripmo tendencies for jumping, popping of off things, and turning. Do you have a 36 or 38 fork? Great videos, keep them coming. Riding trails with your kids is awesome.
Yeah, I think the Ripmo is the most playful and poppy of the mid to longer travel 29 inch trail bikes. This bike has the fox X2 shock and Fox 38 fork. My personal Ripmo had the float X shock and Fox 36. I preferred it that way over the X2 personally
haha thanks! Yeah, I'm sure once he gets older he'll start riding my bikes and different bike and start being a bigger part of the channel. for now, he just likes riding bikes!! He rides a Transition Ripcord that we bought from Salt Cycles.
Thank you! I just wish it would get the attention of the bike manufactures so I could get first looks at all the new bike and actually be able to do this channel for real... with out some level of support I'll likely never be able to review all the different bikes out there...
I was out in AZ last week and rented a 2020 Ibis Ripmo GX build V1 bike and loved it, they gave me a price of 3k for it, I am thinking of buying it, it rides like a dream, so I can save money rather than buying a new IBIS Ripmo, just wondered what your thought was on that price for a used demo bike? Appreciate your response.
Personally, I would never buy a demo or rental bike from a shop… same thing with skis. In all likelihood, that bike has seen more miles, use, abuse and more hours ridden then you’ll put on it in the first 2 years of ownership. Hard pass for me. Suspension will likely be clapped out and there is nothing like those first 60 hours of smooth operating suspension!! Save up or buy an alloy bike… Ripmo AF, Ripley AF or Giant Trance come to mind. Good luck!
How much climbing capability am I giving up by going to this from a Tallboy? I’m a 1 bike guy, especially in northern Utah where you don’t need much squish….but I’m starting to miss the big bike lately and want to try an All Mountain instead of an enduro
I don’t think the Ripmo gives anything up climbing when compared with the Tallboy. In fact, it n my experience the Ripmo climbs better. I would highly recommend the fox 36 fork and Float X shock. Call Chris at Salt Cycles… 801-943-8502 he’ll get you set up with the perfect bike for all of N Utah 👍🤙
@@mtbyumyum Really? That’s pretty awesome, I’ll have to demo that and the Hightower in corner canyon and see for myself. Is the AF as good as they say? I like carbon but wonder if it’s worth the money considering they make identical bikes in both now. Thanks man, your channel is great and it’s nice to see reviews on trails I’m familiar with.
Give them a call, 801-943-8502 They offer a personal custom experience like no other bike shop on planet earth! Ask for Chris… you won’t be disappointed!!
I am so hung up between a new Ripmo V2s or a pivot Firebird. I’m 245 lb rider and I absolutely love that cushy feeling on longer travel bike. I rode an SB150 for a few years and really liked it for the most part. I love chunky descents, drops, jumps. For a big guy I can send it. So I almost feel a need for that deep travel feel. But on the flip side, because I’m big. I also need a bike that climbs well. That feels playful on less robust trails. Im hung up on the Firebird looks. I love them. But I know looks aren’t what matter. Lol Just not sure what to do. 🫠
My buddy Tyler who you see in a lot of my videos always recommends the Ripmo to people but…. For the past 2 seasons he’s been on a Firebird😆😂 the Firebird climbs well and feels deep and plush but not as nimble as the ripmo. Call Chris at Salt Cycle and see what sort of deal he can cook up for you!!
I picked up a Ripmo AF SLX build over the summer on a 25% off sale. Loving it so far, although it is a bit heavy. Just like you said - it can handle chill trails or chunky technical runs - whatever you want to throw at it. Climbs great too!
I wanted to get the ripley at my lbs, but they didn’t have my size. Then there was the Pivot 429 trail enduro with Shimano xt/ xtr trying to get my attention like a puppy at the animal shelter. Took that bike out on the trail with my buddy on his Mojo HD, boy was I glad I bought that bike. Jumping from my 16 year Santa Cruz Superlight to the pivot, I felt every single detail of the bike’s performance. 29er wheels are freaking awesome no. No need to pick the line.
I demo'd that identical Pivot at Salt cycles when the Pivot demo guys were in town a month ago. Amazing bike! Probably the best mountain bike I've ever ridden.
Yep, I totally understand what you’re describing from your experience. Pivot is making some pretty incredible bikes right now. The T429 is in a league of its own!!
FYI, just purchased a Ripmo through Chris at Salt Cycles. Thanks for the heads-up and thanks for your videos over the past few years. Great info and fun to watch!
Could I buy from Salt Cycles and have shipped to WI? Or would there be a high shipping cost? Would I get a further price break since I would be assembling the bike?
Give Chris a call and see what he has to say. I know for people who don’t have IBIS dealers near them or no stock or no ibises in stock, he’ll get you set up no problem!! 801-943-8502 🤙
shipped mine to CA. Was a great experience al around. Assembly is minimal, as they ship them in a padded bike bag. Just tighten handlebars and install the wheels
I bought an Ibis Ripley earlier this year from Salt Cycles based upon your recommendation and I can honestly say they were GREAT! I live in Las Vegas and drove up there to order and to pick up the bike. It's a great bike shop. I STRONGLY recommend you check them out.
John, so glad they got you set up on a Ripley and thanks for sharing your experience here... with so many terrible bike shops with "bro culture" it's nice to work with the good guys!!
Great videos. Your reviews are top notch. In your opinion for south Florida trails, very little downhill action, would you recommend the Ripley or the Trail 429. Looking to upgrade for the “winter” riding season.
Thank you! Eash, tough choice... Personally, I would go or the Ripley... it's slightly more easy going, feels lighter weight under you and not as harsh as the T429... that's not to say the Pivot is overly harsh or the Ibis is too soft.. it's just that if you're not going to be descending at higher speeds the Ripley will feel more forgiving and easier to ride. Hope that helps. Also, Salt Cycles (801-943-8502) is both an Ibis and Pivot dealer... although I would point you toward the Ripley!
I’m from Vernal. I bought the Bug Zapper Blue for 4100 at the start of the pandemic. It was supposed to come kitted with full Deore, but bc of starting supply chain issues I got hooked up with some sweet upgrades. Love the bike. Love the color. I don’t like the new colors. I was able to hit Jacobs Ladder with it last year. Sweet trail.
Ryan might actually have better technique than Marci at this point but still not quite as fast downhill. Getting close though! Next year I bet he passes her up. Also, Marci wouldn’t have hit the jump😆❤️
wow! rad day for y'all ! those kids are awesome :D I just wish Ibis will somehow offer a ripmo with Fox 36/float x, or Lyrik/super deluxe suspension combo. So people that dont want to have the biggest suspension combo will have those options.
@@mtbyumyum that is 100% something I would say to one of my boys and they would immediately report to "Mom" what I said. So funny. Love the channel and I truly hope good people like you continue to gain popularity.
Can you give us an idea of how light the Ripmo can be built up? XC rider looking to move to something with more travel but keeping it as light as possible. Thanks
Yes, finally get to listen to your Ripmo (this one is yours right?) and the rear end makes the same noise (rattle-y) as the Ripmo v2 I got so I guess this is normal. Are you on Float X here on X2? Mine is the stock X2. Thanks!
@@mtbyumyum - Thanks so much, Jason! There's still hope with this Ripmo v2 that I got then. lol I took the bike apart already and now working on building the Sworks Stumpy Evo but let me give this Ripmo another chance but with a different shock. I do remember you mentioning that you ran DPX2 on your other Ripmo but I will look into that Float X. Is that over the counter or you had it traction tuned? If you have that Float X laying around, I would like to buy it. I am also 145 lbs... Please lmk, thanks again!! Your videos are very helpful btw. 👍👍
ha honestly, I didn't even realize how "on him" I was until I watched it back on my computer... I think I stay close to give him pointers, trail info were rolling into and so on... but yeah, #tailgating
Thanks! Yeah, both these boys look very comfortable on two wheels! Beck is a third grader and Ryan is a fourth grader. Very excited to see how their riding and skiing progresses into middle school in the next few years.
Thanks! Kevin is a good lifelong childhood friend. He was a pro skier in his 20s and I have no doubt his son Beck will be an incredible biker, skier and dirt biker! Much more to come from these boys here on the channel over the next decade or so!
Rascal, Ripmo, or SB130? Which would you say is the most playful of the 3 bikes? Which makes a normal trail the most fun? Jumps on small trail features well, easy to throw around and maneuver. I already have a transition Spur, and an evil Wreckoning. I am from SLC and hit a lot of the same trails you ride. Would love to know what you’d recommend. I am not trying to set PRs on the uphill and downhill- just trying to maximize the fun. I’m 6’3 and about 210lbs - not sure if that would make a difference in your recommendation.
Haha yep! This is one of the things I love most about my RU-vid channel. We have an awesome community here at MTByumyum. Everyone weighs in and shares their thoughts and comments. I love it!
Sizing is such a personal matter. I am 5’8” with longer arms and legs and the medium is perfect with a 35 mm stem. I wouldn’t want this bike in a large. If you’re mostly riding bike park and high speed stuff I could see maybe wanting the stability of the slightly longer wheelbase in the large but honestly, I think the medium is the right size for you. Call and talk to the guys at Salt Cycles. They deal with this stuff every single day. They would love to walk you through it. 801-943-8502
I'm 5'9". Just bought a new Stumpjumper Evo in size-L. 5'9" is the between size. The medium felt too small and the large felt too big. However, I think it is a mistake to need a longer stem and have to push the seat back to get a proper fit on a size medium. Much smarter to install a shorter stem and push the seat forward on a size large. On the medium, I felt I was sitting on top of the bike. On the large, I felt I was sitting in the bike. The longer wheelbase size large will descend better and be more stable. The shorter wheelbase size medium will perform better in tight turns. There isn't a right or wrong. It's just what feel and performance you want the bike to have. For me, it was the longer bike. I like that "in the bike" feel and I prefer the more stable bike. My bike shop traded the stock stem for a shorter stem at no charge and adjusted the saddle forward for a perfect fit. After multiple rides. I'm happy with my choice.
@@mtbyumyum I really didn't want to do this but ok. Kid tells you he doesn't want to do it and you still coerce him. Not right, from one father to another
I see what you're saying. Thanks for your concern. Ryan is a very capable rider. I would never put him in a situation I didn't think he would be able to ride... He also rides dirt bikes at a very high level... you would be shocked to see this kid riding his YZ65 with a top speed of 60 mph...
@@mtbyumyum LOL, sorry for that misunderstanding, and how old is Ryan? I'd say he's kickin' arse for so young a guy and I'll bet he could already outride me - lol.
I'm sure you're tired of people saying "try this, or try that bike" BUT when you get a chance, check out the new Revel Rail29. It's very very similar to the Ripmo with the cool Revel CBF feel on descents. They steepened the seat angle and I feel it climbs better than the Rascal. I want an official reviewer to get a hold of it and your reviews are some of my favorites!
The kids did great! Cool bikes for them as well! I helped raise two little girls on the trails since they were 7 & 9 and they kicked butt and now are great riders!
@@mtbyumyum I am 5ft 9 with shoes on, and I always ride Medium bikes.Small changes make the difference... I went with a 40mm stem from 45 and may even try a 35, as well as with 35 bars and the cockpit was way more comfortable. Of course nothing changed as far as wheelbase is concerned, but still, the bike is awesome! I really like the beefy frame tubes that inspire confidence for frame rigidity and is my one and only bike for any trail.
Such an unnecessary and burdensome comment that even has the Lord's eyes rolling. Make sure you do the same for all earthly matters that bring you joy, of course.
