I feel comments like yours is done under a certain agenda. People will buy products like this because they think it’s an improvement of modern technology considering the alinement of bristles. That can be said is true, but the same can be achieved by angling most brushes a certain way. It’s not blind consumption without any thought as virtue signaling or self-righteous boasters at the expense of others wants people to believe; but it is people being attracted to products that will make their life easier. Sometimes it’s better to stop and think on what one has, and how it can be used another way to achieve the same effect. That is the point. Socially ostracizing people for moral points isn’t.
@@mag-narwhalwell I would assume it wasn't very common knowledge for the public either. I assume it's passed down orally by their mothers. Probably the people getting their hair brushed also didn't know and only the servants would. And others just got it, but don't really know either.
@@user-pt5cl2ro6fwdym? I literally touched a hair brush once and instantly understood that I needed to brush perpendicularly, it’s not like it takes a genius to figure it out
Oval shaped brushes hold the loose hair in the brush tho. Some of these newer brushes dont catch the hair so it falls on your shoulders or your floors. lt really depends on ur needs. I have really thin hair that barely gets tangled so i just use any brush.
@@doeeyes2At least in my experience, as long as the brush has a rubber base where the bristles start as opposed to being entirely made of plastic, it will catch hair no matter what shape it is. A lot of newer brushes are being made without the rubber though, and I’ve noticed a lot more shapes of hair brushes in recent years so it might just be that square brushes are often newer and made of plastic
I’m a natural brunette but have had bleached blonde hair for 15 years, I don’t use any heat on my hair so it’s super long and healthy, but because I bleach I still have to be really careful about brushing when wet. Oval brushes snagged and pulled out a lot, the brush would be full of hair. When I switched to the big square ones I’d only have a few pieces of hair in the brush and it doesn’t pull or snag at all 😃
I have 4c hair, so suuuuper tight curls and the unbrush SHOCKED me to my core! It works so well! I tried it with pre-detangled and undetangled hair, it was effective for both and accomplished more than what my denman brush could in minutes! It may not be for everyone but for those with maybe thicker, unmanageable hair, it's a time saver 😁👍 The tip is useful though! Edit: should also mention I tried it on DRY hair, not damp and it still did the trick (albeit, it still had a little resistance to it but it nonetheless got through it faster than my denman. I do suggest brushing through damp hair when detangling for styling just cuz it makes the process faster and smoother but it still works well while dry 👍
I have 4b hair and it makes such a difference. But based on reviews I’ve seen, the brush seems to only seems to really be helpful for type 3b hair and up tbh. For anyone who’s hair is straighter than that, I don’t think the brush is usually helpful
@@djohnonson Interesting, you'd think it works better on finer hair rather than curly. Just goes to show ya everyone is different and not every product works for everyone
@@SherryDoodlez I’m saying the opposite. It works better the curlier your hair is. I don’t think it works for non-curly hair. One creator explained it as the reason being that the bristles are too flexible. Whereas curly hair benefits from a brush with a lot of give, straighter hair needs a more structured tool.
Pretty sure i have like 3c at the very least or and im very picky about brushes BC most of them have a soft backing which comes out when used with my hair. I only trust brushes with a hard backing or a wide tooth comb
I use a comb. No worries about the channels and waves are kept better. Regular plastic one not causing any damage. I haven’t used brush in at least 15-20 years
Wow, this is why even though I have thick-ish (a lot thinner now) hair I have always liked a comb a lot better than a brush. Even when my hair was at my thickest I would pull out a little com. From my bag and my friends would look at me like I'm crazy, but it honestly combed out my knots so much better
Same I have wavy hair but don’t know how to take care of it but since I stopped using a regular brush and only a comb I don’t have frizzy hair and so much hair loss
My hair is very fine, long and prone to frizziness. I switched from a brush which would always break my hair and make it even frizzier to a bamboo comb. It doesn't cause damage or frizziness, less hair falls out during a brushing, and the bamboo allows for a good distribution of natural hair oils all throughout. It's been just under 2 months since I switched, and my hair feels so much healthier and smoother.
I comb and then go through with a boar bristle brush once or twice after. (I have fairly thin hair). What it is really great for is smoothing flyaways - statics all the hair to itself or something, like magic.
I appreciate this breakdown. As a hairstylist I'm still gonna get the unbrush just for all the air that can get thru the holes in the back of the brush. When blowdrying, there will be less resistance for the heat & hair to get thru the bristles.
As someone who bought the unbrush, it’s not worth it. I have thick wavy hair and it rips and gets caught in my hair like any other brush no matter how you hold it. I still think hair texture and thickness are important variables.
It's funny, I also have thick wavy/curly hair and it's been the MOST worth it thing I've ever bought for my hair. It cut down the time it takes to comb through my hair by magnitudes, which is important because I generally only do it in the shower. My hair is consistently snarl free for the first time in my life. It's cool how different things work for different people even under (seemingly) the same circumstance.
Dang cuz like most 4c influencers say it’s like the best thing for their hair 😂 and if it can work for the curliest thickest hair I assumed it could work for everyone else 😂
@@AmyAdachie-tz4mnshe mentioned above she preferred it with wet hair and honestly I think that may have been the problem especially with wavy hair because it’s still kind of a curl. I have 4b/4c hair and have since locked my hair because it was thick and tedious. However, many black girls or girls with curls know that detangling with dry hair is a no go! Always add something to slick the hair or add moisture with water to help a brush glide through easier. If I tried to brush my hair with the un brush with dry hair I probably would have hated it too. 😅 But you live and you learn!
you're always going to need like two or three brushes cuz you'll always lose one, but agreed you don't need to buy every new product just because it's marketed like you need it, if you look at most companies at this point promoting things there's like five to 100 other versions for more or less
Yup. Myself and one of my daughters have 4c and my other daughter has 2 or 3 curl pattern. Brush works amazingly on all of our hair. Worth every penny.
You have a wet brush, and that's not meant to detanangle hair as fast as possible, it's meant to prevent breakage when detangling. It has super flexible prongs that will bend before they rip apart a tangle, and the different lengths of prongs also makes it more gentle. I have a wet brush that I use for detangling because I lose so much hair when I use my other brush that has those perpendicular chanels. I use that one for styling, but i use my wet one because even though it may take me a couple swipes to get through a tangle, I know it's because it's gentle and not breaking my hair
Facts. I bought a new brush because the girlies were raving about it, just to go back to my old brush because I finally learned how to use it right lol
Definitely, I went to school for cosmetology specifically to be a hairstylist, more people brush their hair incorrectly than correctly, Always start from the ends and go to the roots, hold the brush in the way it’s meant to be held (just look at the bristles) and if your hair is wavy or curly I personally like to dampen it so it doesn’t get frizzy (this also helps to detangle it quicker)
I'm black and my mom bought the un-brush to see how it did on me and my sister's hair. It actually works better than any detangling brush ever has on everybody in my family's natural hair. It's different for all hair types because it's harder for people with THICK, coarse, curly and/or wavy, hair to detangle their hair than it is for people with tangled hair that's naturally thinner and/or straight, or mildly wavy. I love the unbrush! ❤❤❤
so THAT'S why my cosmetology teacher told us to detangle hair holding the brush vertically. none of us, not even him, knew why it worked, but it's insanely helpful.
This is a content creator that I can support someone who looks at items assesses the situation and sees, what they can do to fix their current problem without buying into a new company.
tbh i just randomly found a brush that looks like the unbrush years ago and it was the only brush that didn't break from my hair and also untangled it. my hair is pretty thick, and i was having issues with untangling and brushes breaking. didn't know it was so popular, it is a pretty good brush (imo) but i also agree if its a trend u shouldnt just go buying new brushes when you possibly already have one that works
That really does make good sense! I actually got a knockoff unbrush from Temu of all places (a two pack of them for $2!) I wasn't expecting much as figured it would be a knockoff but that is how the bristles are and they really do work better than my regular wetbrush
This is also why the tsngle teaser works well, not only does it have the channels, but also varying lengths of bristles to help your hair pass through easier
I like it as a cosmetology student because the holes make it easy to clean, and become theres no cushion that traps water it makes it easier to dry after a dump in barbicide
That’s why I like rectangle or square brushes so much more than the oval ones because square brushes have right angles and straight lines instead of the diagonal lined bristles in oval brushes
OMG thank you thank you thank you thank youuuu for reminding people to look at and use what they have on hand, instead of telling them to buy more and more 🎉🎉🎉
Sometimes I realize a lot of people don't intuitively know that if something is bad, you can probably tweak it a little to fix it. I've been brushing my hair with whatever the hell I can find for years.
This may sound very stupid, but why does the hair passing through more clearly make it work better? Wouldn’t it be better to have the brush hit all of the tangles inside of just gliding through them? What do I not get?
Its also the fact that it doesnt have the little balls on the end. i have curly hair and my hair wraps around and gets caught on the balls which rips my hair out. Its also super easy to clean. My other brushes have been a pain to clean. It is however worth mentioning that brush feels and looks very loq quailty in real life. Its not expensive and I got mine on sale but was still surprised by how cheap it feels when you hold it.
Thanks for making this video. I’m about to start my hair and Locke at My Kazmaleje paddle comb and noticed the clear channels. The clearest one are on the diagonal, but there are clear channels in all directions on it. I would not have considered this before. Learn something new everyday.
I use bristles that are more soft and bendy with a cushion base. It passes through tangles easily and i can spot the knots to untangle without pulling my hair too hard.
No. It gets less tangled because that’s the smallest face of the brush so you’re brushing less hair in each stroke. The smaller sections you brush, the easier the brush will pass through the hair. Try it out!
I will only ever use natural bristle brushes. The mix of long prongs and short fibres makes it so easy to push your hair without pulling out your hair and it makes your hair feel so smooth
Oooo I have a round brush and I just roll it straight against my head and it detangles my hair so easily but I never knew why!! That’s so cool thanks queen 💜
This is true that when you brush your hair through with your hairbrush being in straight lines it passes through more easily but the problem with that is you may not actually detangle your hair all the way. I heard this from a hairstylist, basically when the bristles are in a straight line your brush acts like a wide tooth comb and when they are not it acts as a fine tooth comb. So if you have very hard to detangle hair you should use it through the straight lines first but then also do the other way to get all the tangles out. I hope I explained it in a way that makes sense 😅
No wonder i got so attached to my wooden avon paddle brush 😂 its been my go to for around 20 years and has a giant split down the middle. Its still comfy in the hand, gentle on the hair, and those plastic beads are STILL attached. My mom sassed my grandma when she gifted me it when i was 8, but i mean, it was obviously a good gift imo 😂
I have big curls and thin hair, it gets really dry and tangled easily, but for some years I've had only what I'd describe as diagonal brushes and really wide tooth combs, and they pass marvellously, it makes so easy to care for my hair. I don't need any of those weird products supposedly special for curly hair.
Denman Grooming brush is my HG for my thick hair, don't matter if you start brushing from the top of your head or the bottom of your hair it ain't gonna snag at all! It so gentle on the hair, makes it soft and smooth ❤
Just tried this on my typically always tangled hair and wow! You quite possibly just saved my husband from cleaning Sasquatch out of the drain again! 🥳🥰 THANK YOU!
Great advice for anyone who this simple change in how they brush would work. ❤However for the comments that keep talking about consumerism, please keep in mind that sometimes people can’t just simply hold the brush another way. (Someone with arthritis for one example.)
I saw this too and just changed how I held my brush. I’m not buying som expensive nonsense if my cheap brush does the same thing when I hold it like some renaissance era princess 😂
That’s very interesting and would have been good to know back when I had long hair, but I don’t and so I don’t actually use brushes anymore. But hey maybe one day I’ll grow it back out.
I heard that vacuums are designed to be so loud bc we dont trust them if theyre quiet. Kind of curious if this is a similar deal bc like if the channels are the case (which it makes sense it would be) then it seems like theyd be known by designers for hair products by now. Idk maybe not
I think it depends on the person and their hair. my hair is short (because of shrinkage it is about 2.5 inches tall all around when brushed) and about 4c(?) and I am tenderheaded, and the unbrush allows me to start detangling my hair without a lot of pain. I don't wanna bear more pain than I have to at least start out detangling. then I climb up to my tangle teezer brush, then a wide tooth comb, and the my long tooth comb (because you're gonna be detangling for a very long time with my hair texture and length with the un brushable when my hair is tangled enough). even trying to go along the treads of the brush still hurts, which is the same reason that starting out with a normal comb would hurt me. So, I'm glad that it works for you to not use the unbrushable, and I know not all types of hair and pain tolerances don't come to mind when you're talking about your hair and products you use, but from my experience, the unbrush has been a godsend. however, not enough of a godsend for me to care enough to check if it's called the unbrush or the unbrushable. (all of this was written by speaker to text with some subjectively necessary corrections by me because I'm too lazy to type it all out and do proper grammar but it is a comment section so who cares. if you don't understand what I'm saying, ask questions.
I’m black. I have textured hair. I have been brushing my own hair since I was five and it has ALWAYS hurt. My husband just got me the unbrush and I legit cried. It was the first time in 20 years I brushed my hair and it didn’t hurt.
