With your mijello palette, stick those little silicone sticky dots to the base in the corners, that will stop it from sliding. I have seen some people use palette knives to remove the dried paint from those wells. I have heaps of the little meeden palettes (and some big ones!) and I have magnet clips also, they work so well. I recently bought a tiny magnetic palette from Etsy from a Russian brand called Go Draw and it is designed to clip to your sketchbook. Best purchase ever.
Over a few years, I bought three of the Mijello palettes. The first broke in a way that couldn't be fixed or used. I do use parts of that palette. Last year, I bought two of them for gouache. One of the snaps malfunctioned si I had to use an elastic to keep it closed. After getting mold in that palette, I cleaned it and put it aside. The third has worked well. I see so many artists have good luck with them but I'm not a fan. My favorite palette is one of the small business card Expidionary Art palette. I love it. I've also enjoyed a small palette from Watercolor Hoarders. Thet are based in Singapore. You can buy their palettes on etsy or direct. They use quarter pans with magnetic base in small metal tins that have a good white enamel or other coating in all the inside surfaces. They a great choice of sets. Thank you for sharing your supply tips. They were helpful.
I have the two clear surface polycarbonate palettes and keep them at home for studio stuff. I have carried one around a lot, but i guess luckily so far havent had issues. I have a couple of the airtight ones but haven’t used them much. I like the bulletproof ones for the amount of mixing space
I want to try Winsor and Newton's paint so bad, although I'm not a professional, and doesn't really have the money 😅. Also, on my opinion the worst art supplies are those paint brushes that loose the hairs, those plastic paint brushes, watercolor paper that is SAID to be for professionals yet it curves, its so soft, and easy to break down! Those on my opinion ARE the worstt!
I literally agree with everything you said. Im not a huge fan of winsor and newton products at all really-except their designers gouache in some colors (and i say "in some colors" bc a lot of W&N Designers Gouache uses questionable pigments) Never tried Schmincke gouache BUT i really want too one day. Love Escoda brushes. Also I agree about the palettes as well- when I first started my watercolor journey I bought a few of those plastic palettes and quickly realized they werent for me-like you, I need to be able to change around my colors. And finally I LOVE Etcher watercolor sketchbooks, I have both the everyday and perfect version. Love them both! Anyway great video, its be fun to see yoh make the same video about watercolors-like you favorite colors and not so favorite colors and then swatch them out in real time telling us the name of each as you go...Okay sorry about the unsolicited suggestions..lol. Great video and thanks for sharing, much love❤🧡💛
Glad to hear! Yeah I do have a few W&N watercolours but other than that I generally stay away from it! That’s a great idea on the video about colours, I’ll have a think :)
Thank you for a great video! I love the etchr sketchbooks too. I have the same plastic palette, and I place a piece of that non-slip vinyl material, that has little indented squares, under the palette to stop the sliding. Here in America they have it in a roll at dollar stores. I also have the same Meeden palette, and love it too. 👏♥️🙏💐
I've always wanted to try the Etchr sketchbooks, but they are so incredibly expensive here. A single A6 book is over $75, which unfortunately for a hobby painter like me is a bit too much of an investment 😅 (To put it into perspective I spend less than that on groceries for a week)
I wanted to try Etchr for a while, but the landscape format put me off. I'm so glad to see they now make portrait format! 😆 I'm getting one in cold and hot press to try out, but need to figure out what size would be best. Thanks for sharing, you just made my day!!!
The k and p sketchbook is the same that comes from Jackson's art own brand. I love the size of the square sketchbook which is like a short A5 but just wish it had better paper. The etchr sketchbook is hard to find in portrait where I am.
Oh I wanted the b5 etchr too but I just don't feel right spending over 30 for a sketchbook and the a5 falls right under 30 here in the US so I get that.one.
My best Sketchbook is the Fabriano Vergatone Sketchbook. I love it. Literally love it. Can use most mediums on it except oil paints & heavy acryl paints. Inks work too. Oil sticks and pastels work really well in it too. Of course it’s hard to get. Hahnemüle released a new one. 100% cotton. Haven’t tried it yet but I will soon.
Thanks so much for making this video, it really helped me to finalise my dedision to buy the Etchr sketchbook. ❤ Btw. do you use the cold or hot pressed one? Also, that magnet looks amazing!! Any idea what it's called/under which name one can buy it? 😍
