She basically even told us that her dad was either a deadbeat or (statistically way more likely) absent. Her entire life was jolly but she was indoctrinated into a cult of hate by her single mom while living off the paycheck from the dad whom she was told to hate early on in live.

This short hits hard… man, my wife wants to “go her own way”, because she despises place we live at (my home) and my personality (calm introvert) and I wanted to keep the marriage neverthless because of our children, but not her… and so I am sitting on the toilet, watching this short and when “show you have courage and strenght to be free” plays, my eyes get all teary… f*ck me, that hits like a truck at the moment… time to join Helldivers, I guess…
You got to admit, super earth armed forces are incredibly individualistic to let their soldiers pick their own missions, decide how to run those missions, decide what weapons and load out to bring on those emissions, decide how much resources to utilize almost missions. It's an incredibly free society
It makes sense, from a Special force’s standpoint, they (the helldiver) are the guys in the ground getting it done, everything else is there to ensure they are victorious, so you want them to have free reign because they are trusted that much.
Makes sense though, despite the memes they are Special Forces taking on highly dangerous missions. Irl SF have a lot of freedom too compared to regular soldiers

Holy crap, this is pure gold on so many social and cultural levels in the US right now. I can't even begin to put into words how much it resonates with young men. If army recruiters get ahold of this it's game over.
This game changed my fucking life and got me back my confidence. I'm being social again, I'm working out, I'm waking up at 0530 every morning just to practice more and get more in a day done. Because I have the strength and the courage to be free.

My girlfriend saw me play Helldivers, I was about in the middle of the mission and we were annihilating the bots in a perfect way, after an intense fight we manage to extract, I greet my teammates who compliment me for the performance, I close the game and go to her... she angry explains to me that it bothers her when I play because I'm wasting time and I could study for university instead, she told me to study this morning and make up for lost time. The new warbond is on the way and I've been playing since eight this morning to get enough medals. FOR DEMOCRACY!
