This very handy for a new potential airhead owner. My bike was a basket case that sat for 33 years. Bought it sight unseen, I knew I was going to pretty much do a restore or resurrection. Already had the bike to TX and back to MD. But great advice you are giving here!
Thanks for this. I made the mistake a few years ago. Pined for a long time to buy an airhead, I went got a ‘build’ without seeing it personally. I went off of a video and pictures. When I received it, the Center stand pin was practically glued on. The battery was gel and not lithium as explained, and was being charged by a lithium charger. The fuel cap was fucked, EVERY seal was leaking and was only apparent after I had rod it a few miles. The head bold on each side was damaged in a way that it allowed oil to also gradually seep. Oh, and the clutch slipped. I made a £3k loss to a custom builder after I sold it on. NEVER again will I buy a bike without seeing.
Hi brother, i have the r r80 gs early first generation.want to change the battery, is it normal that i have to make space by unscrewing the rear shock? Thx bro! bBob Belgium
Obviously don't know if you got a reply from Marcus or elsewhere but if not have a look on a chap called Andreus who runs Workshop Rebuild you tube channel. He normally replies to questions.
a slight tik tik tik sound might indicate that the rocker valves need adjustment', I would also check for presence of oil inside of both engine covers; if there is no oil then you will face a lack of lubrication problem with the valves
Hi mate, i have r 100rs, and r 80gs first generation, is it correct that i have to unbolt the rear schock to change the battery, seems 2 mm to big to get it out from above.’.what is the trick? Thx for helping out mate! Bob Belgium
