I think it moves the needle if you're going for a federal government job, right? The CISSP associate appears to meet the DOD 8570 Baseline certification, IAT Level III and IAM Level III
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 5 месяцев назад
You are correct in that per the DOD 8140 (8570 is not the current standard), that the CISSP Associate is listed under certain levels. However, it is a common misconception that simply meeting a certain level of the mandate actually qualifies you for the requirements listed in the jobs and it absolutely does not remove the experience requirement in the jobs you are referencing. There can be very specific situations where it makes sense but they don’t apply to most people even in the federal space.

So you can't even list that you've got the associate cert on your resume?
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 7 месяцев назад
"Associate of ISC2" is the only designation you get and could list if you aren't endorsed and certified for any of the ISC2 certifications. They don't want you mentioning terms like CISSP if you aren't certified.

So how do i get into these roles without experience or exams

I recommend starting with my Getting Started page ( jongood.com/getstarted/ ) and beginning to work through my content that has a ton of information to help you.

How cissp evaluates if someone has cyber sec experience or another IT experience?
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 11 месяцев назад
The experience requirement is based on if your experience falls under on of the domains, not necessarily IT versus Cybersecurity. If you've worked in IT, you should have experience within the domains but again you'll have to look at the domains and see.

@@JonGoodCyber I am a network and security engineer with 15 yrs exp. And my field is not specifically infosec like. So does ISC2 has any process of determining if I have enough prerequesite for taking cissp badge.
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 11 месяцев назад
@vinishvijayan6661 have you tried contacting ISC2 or looking at the domains and seeing if your experience is listed? You don’t need to have a dedicated security role to qualify, although your title includes security so I’m confused what your daily tasks actually are if they aren’t security related.

not to mention 8570s lol
@JonGoodCyber

There is no actual certification called "CISSP Associate," and instead, you become an "Associate of ISC2." You can argue about it all you want, but ISC2 has never changed their stance on this, and you could potentially create problems for yourself if they find out you are misrepresenting your status. I'm not even going to dive into the specifics of the 8570, which is not the current standard, but just know that the "Associate" exception listed was created for Military personnel (more specifically, Officers) and won't give you any significant benefit outside of that. community.isc2.org/t5/Students-Early-Career-Associate/Becoming-an-associate/td-p/57992 www.isc2.org/certifications/associate

I am 53 and have 28 years of experience in software engineering and systems engineering. I don't have any specific cybersecurity experience. Would I be eligible for the full cissp?
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 2 месяца назад
Per the CISSP requirements: "Candidates must have a minimum of five years cumulative, full-time experience in two or more of the eight domains of the current CISSP Exam Outline. Earning a post-secondary degree (bachelors or masters) in computer science, information technology (IT) or related fields may satisfy up to one year of the required experience or an additional credential from the ISC2 approved list may satisfy up to one year of the required experience. Part-time work and internships may also count towards the experience requirement." The question is, do you have experience across two or more of the domains? My guess is you most likely do, but only you can answer that question. www.isc2.org/certifications/cissp/cissp-experience-requirements

@@JonGoodCyber Maybe. It's iffy because every domain mentions cybersecurity in some way. Thanks for the link.
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber 2 месяца назад
@@em7dim9 Well, it is a cybersecurity certification, so that makes sense! Remember that the requirement isn't to have worked a cybersecurity job, so I'm sure plenty of things could apply if you look closely through the domains and exam objectives.
@oXDestroXo
@oXDestroXo Месяц назад
@em7dim9 you absolutely would man. I have the certification and have way less experience than you. It doesn't need to be nearly as narrow of a focus as this video implies.
@JonGoodCyber
@JonGoodCyber Месяц назад
@@oXDestroXo LOL! If you think the scope of cybersecurity is narrow, you might want to look back at your notes. I'm not sure where you got that idea in this video because I never said cybersecurity was narrow, so there's no point in asking for a timestamp reference.
