Vinegar was a revolutionary move, for sure!! I worked for a woman who used it instead of fabric softener and she told me about it. It sanitizes your clothes, softens your clothes and helps keep your washer clean of hard water. 👍
I stopped using fabric softener on my laundry two years ago and my eczema went away! My mother thinks I'm a sissy for refusing to use it, but it saves money, my clothes don't feel waxy, they still smell good, and now I don't have rashes all over my body. Couldn't care less what she thinks.
What?! 😲 I hate when people say stuff like this. I got food poisoning from undercooked fresh pasta in a cooking class I worked at and one of my coworkers said, "Oh, you must not have a very strong stomach, then." I was thinking, _B!tch, that's not how bacteria works!_ Unscientific opinions abound about very real and well-researched phenomena, usually related to chemicals and bacteria. A cousin of mine had alopecia for the longest time, not knowing to wash new clothes before the first wear. Is she a "sissy" for needing to wash the chemical finishers off her clothes? 😂
@@heathers1931 the underarm odor is probabaly because 2 things also, some deotorant has aluminum and when you sweat it out it gets caught in the clothing and keeps the odor trapped in. I learned the hard way when I started using antiperspirant deotorant instead of my usual aluminum free. To fix it turn all of your shirts inside out mix a spray bottle with half distilled white viniger and half warm water and spray it onto the underarms of your shirts or where odor is . Let it soak for 30 minutes then do a normal cycle also if you have an he machine they clean clothes terribly and barley even wet them so add a couple gallons of water to your clothing and soak them before you start a cycle and it will add more water to the cycle and clean better . Make sure you pore the water in the clothing slowley otherwise before the cycle starts it will drain all of the water then weigh the clothes
My friend ex-wife told me about vinegar about 15 years ago for laundry it really does help get the stench out of your clothes. I will say I am a firm believer in using vinegar.
@@douglascamus8207 full load about 2/3 of cup. It does not take a lot if you put in too much your clothes will smell like vinegar. I do say it does work I walk a lot for my job and it leaves me sweaty and dingy and the vinegar helps tremendously.
Hi, i hv a question.. how do you clean ur front loader for the sake of maintainance? And is it ok to u vinegar in every wash? Does the vinegar affect the washer in any way??
How? Like less detergent? Am I missing something? My Gran can remember having to hand wash as a kid before they got a machine in the late 40s. Nobody in the family has ever used softener. Never had a problem with the clothes retaining smell - because that's what the detergent hits.
I see so many people hating on fabric softener. What am I missing? I know I don’t “need” it but I honestly do feel a difference in my clothes. Tried vinegar, towels are definitely fluffier but not necessarily soft. I’m only using about a tbsp per load so maybe that’s why I’m not having any issues….yet 😆
You know how it is, once something is discovered to be not as great as advertised all the hard asses come out of the wood work with “I have never used that stuff I am smarter than that” 😂
It’s healthier for your skin (largest organ of your body) and environment (detergents and softeners are cancer causing) Softners build up on clothing but vinegar washes/rinses away excess detergent.
I also use white vinegar in my wash, cleans, brightens, deodorizes, makes clothes nice and soft. Little bit goes a long and if any lingering scent is there when you open the washer, it will dissipate while drying. I use white vinegar in place of bleach and fabric softener. 1 gallon costs a hell of a lot less than fabric softener or bleach. Also a great natural way to clean around the house (that actually works and you’re not paying for a “green” name.
@@robertcollett8073 I just installed a GE dishwasher and it was a pain in the ass. The hose that goes into the garbage disposal didn’t have the rubber part to slip on apparently you have to buy it separately
Thank you!!! I have always hated fabric softener and yet I've faced some resistance when i try to tell my friends and family it's bad. If you wash stuffed animals, fabric softener will ruin them.
Well not to mention kids night clothes is never a good idea to use fabric softeners on those or even dryer sheets and oh btw dont use dryer sheets in your dryer unless you want to lose your home..
Another great alternative to fabric softner is 2-4 wool dryer balls. They help dry your clothing faster this saving on electricity, they break up clumps of clothing that get tangled, and they keep your clothes from getting crunchy while drying. 👍
My mom never used it while I grew up, when I moved out my boyfriends mom bought it for me to use because she would use it. OMG. Every single thing that touched me made me itch like crazy. I hated it so much and I don’t even have sensitive skin. I stopped using it immediately and after some research starting buying white vinegar and it is truly a game changer i use it in all types of wash loads, it whitens my whites like no other (bleach I rarely use now), it fluffs my towels and I use it in the dishwasher as a rinse aid, I use it on white clothes to spot treat any stains or yellowing, I use it in the sink to deodorize, I pour it in a sponge wand add dish soap and hot water and use it on my glass shower doors, and I mix it with dish soap and water to make a DIY countertop spray. I saved so much $$$ considering EBT covers white vinegar! *edit* Some more tips! You can also descale your kettle by pouring white vinegar in it and boiling, white vinegar poured in a bowl placed in your car/ a room will absorb odors, and I microwave white vinegar in a bowl to loosen all the gunk in the microwave before wiping it away easily. I would love to know if anyone else has any pro tips to add on below :)
Pro tip my mom taught me, take old orange peels and add them to a jar of vinegar and you'll get really good smelling vinegar thats just as good for cleaning your clothes.
Because most people pour straight fabric softener into the fabric softener dispenser. You’re supposed to dilute it with 1:1 ratio w/water. If you use it properly it doesn’t build up like that.
This is as funny as thousands extra dying so often now the US Life Expectancy is dropping 1 year per year, three years running. So long and thanks for all the 🐟.
Yeah I kinda stopped using fabric softeners ages ago mostly do to money problems. But vineger helped a lot through some tips from the old ladies at the laundry place
@@oswaldjenkins8557 my family has money, never used this shit growing up. Forgot it existed til i saw this. Not a money thing, just a dumb person thing.
Fabric softener is only marketed for big companies to make extra money. I personally only used it for about a year for the additional scent boosting effects, until I noticed it was making my clothes fade quicker.
All of you smell like bleach for one… or smell like “get away from me” 😷😷. Don’t use fabric softener? You pry ain’t use sheets for ya dryer too. Double whammy why you all smelt bad lol
The problem isn't fabric softener itself; it's that many people are using it wrong. You can't just dump it into those agitator dispensers, you have to shake the bottle before pouring, and you have to dilute the measured out softener with hot water. Otherwise, the lipids that actually do the softening will come out of solution and stay in the dispenser. (Unless you're using a front loader, in which case the dispenser will dilute the softener itself)
@@Silentguy_ but the liquid fabric softener actually coats and clogs the fibers of the clothes so they smell nice but actually don't get clean. Plus the build up will ruin your clothes over time
I use it much. Our machine runs 15 yrs now without problems. Well, we have a good brand and not such a top loader. Probably a problem caused by construction error.
Can confirm the white distilled vinegar thing. Have been doing it for years. It also helps the clothing stay cleaner longer, because of its anti-microbial properties.
Yeah that's not how that works at all. It's already super dilute and then you dilute it a fuck ton more by putting it in the wash and then you dry it which further removes the vinegar concentration leftover in the clothes. It will not "stay cleaner longer".
It's not just the whirlpool family it goes to every appliance manufacture. The federal government regulates the appliances now. The best washer is the Speed queen TC5003WN
Hey.....my Maytag dryer is almost 40 years old! And the only reason the washer mate is gone , is from the high rust content in my water, literally ate through the drum!! Never had a repair man! My washer has been Kenmore elite front load, 15 years. Zero repairs, still going strong! My friends bought Samsung and LG NEW.... nothing but but repairs.🤷♀️
Same here, had maytag 25 years until I gave them away and they still worked got a samsung pair front load washer took 3 repairs before they got it to work 10 years old now. Maytag was better
We use good old german Miele. I use much softener. Machine is 15 yrs old now and never needed service. Just buy a proper machine where all those things were in mind in construction.
When you come across those kinds RU-vid channels, subscribe to the channel and they’ll come up often plus draw in other channels of the same topics and subscribe to those as well.
For the folks saying they use vinegar ty for solving the weird sour smell issue that comes from folks no matter how clean they look been wonder if it’s what u eat or whatever but now the question is answered
Same. I found out you don’t even need a lot of detergent. Once I purchased my LG machine it doesn’t require a lot. Before I would dump so much I’m not knowing.
Fabric softner isnt usually a bad thing, its just that people overuse softner and soap. Tid bit for anyone reading this, the jugs of detergent you get tell you to basically fill up the entire cap. This is overexcessive and they tell you to use that much so you go through it faster, so you can run to the store and buy more. A tablespoon is usually good enough for the average load since most the time you wash its more so to freshen up clothes than them needing a deep clean
As a maintenance tech I can say for sure fabric softeners are bad for your machine and clothes. Especially if you use too much. One table spoon, 2 at max for a full load if you insist on using that artificial liquid wax. Use white vinegar. One cup, 2 at max for a bulky/over filled load. It will actually soften your clothes, it will sanitize them and it removes bad odors. You can also put it into the bleach spot that says bleach only. Sure it's a little more expensive in the long run but you don't need it every load and it works much better. If you are worried about the smell sticking to your clothes, don't worry. You might smell it faintly when close by while the machine is running if you have a top load washer but it will not stick to the clothes. Please do not use that liquid wax. It will do more harm that good.
Fun fact. Vinegar removes water deposits and rust from your machine. It also removes water deposits from your clothes, makes them soft and aids in cleaning. Vinegar is 5% acetic acid, and it won’t hurt rubber. I run a detailing shop. My microfibres are far dirtier than clothes. They last 100-300 wash cycles. Vinegar is key
Ok this is coming from someone legit in the laundry field....if you are not going to use fabric softener USE LESS SOAP!! softener isn't just for clothes and scent it helps cut down soap suds as well. Take what you hear from this one video and one machine with a grain of salt, I use the downy softener release ball for all my loads and never have an issue with buildup. People please remember these videos are for views and likes so they will exaggerate alot of information. That one washer must've seen years of people adding way too much product into it. I will forever and always use fabric softener.
I was recently taught(about 2 years ago) by the father of my child not to use fabric softener or dryer sheets. Not only did he teach me to save money but my clothes and blankets last much longer and they feel better too 😌
Yeah, I was a bit suspicious of Fabric Softener for some time now. It is a gimmick for manufacturers to make money. So many household products are not necessary but money making gimmicks.
It's because people overuse fabric softener... You only have to use fabric softener on your clothes twice a month it does not wash off your clothes in the washer.... So say you wash a load of clothes today with fabric softener. Then you're supposed to use it again the following month. And you should use unconcentrated fabric softener like snuggle.... Downy fabric softener is too concentrated... Tied in Downey are the two worst detergents..... They can clog washer machines and they can seep into the pores of your skin
Idk about gimmick lol it definitely works People just don’t know to use it correctly that’s all really . Going back to non fabric softener cloths is the worst lol not all of us have skin conditions . If you want to use softener and not mess up your machine just take it the laundry mat All the benefits . None of the repairs. It’s only supposed to be used twice a month anyways
With a drip system, chemicals leech. Eventually into water, do you know what the Alf life of this stuff is? If you get it pumped... It goes to the same sewer systems everything else does
Yup I do vinegar and I swear it helps my clothes actually smell better (probably because it neutralizes odors lol) and then I use dryer balls in the dryer. If you use the wool ones you can drop a drop or 2 on each ball of essential oils to add that touch of great scent!
I once read a comment from someone who worked for Sears which said that people also tend to use way more soap than they actually need, and it slowly eats away at the machine over time. Since then I only go up to Line 3 for the largest loads and supplement with vinegar; still gets clean, still smells good!
oh you put in on your washing machine. we don't usually do it like that here. We dilute the fab con with a basin of water then soak our clothes for a while wring it then put it in the drier or just hang to dry.
@@Ethnicbeauty I don’t think fabric softener actually cleans the clothing. So it’s just like wetting your clothing, drying it, and then spraying it with perfume lol
This is especially important if you work with anything that is flammable or can start a fire. If you wash your clothes with fabric softener and you catch fire, you will burn easily. This is because it puts a waxy residue on your clothes and turns you into a human candle. Your clothes can melt on to your skin as well vs burning up/off. Also it decreases the absorption of your towels, cloth diapers, and wash rags
If you had to compare how soft the clothes were after the vinegar as opposed to regular fabric softener, how effective would you say it is? Does it also cut down on static as well as the softness?
@@rem520 I'll say my clothes were softer and there was no static however this could also be because my clothes are mostly natural fibres so I can't say if it's going to be same for artificial fibers. For smell they smelled like my laundry powder very mild though. The one thing I'm certain of is they were definitely softer no crunchiness at all.
I work outside, so i usually dump four dryer sheets into the dryer. Screw the fabric softener. I figure, if every ME Vet has always appreciated all the Bounce I’ve sent them, there must be something to it. I WILL be trying the white vinegar, though.
Fabric softener does soften your clothes but gets rid of static since it reduces friction, vinegar doesn't help with that. If you're having issues because of softener use, it's because you either put too much or you don't use enough water.
Exactly! This guy who posted this video is stupid! If he had any common sense, he'd realize that softener is not the problem. It's how it's used! SMH!!!!
Fabric softener actually increases the flammability of clothes. Most fabric softeners have warnings about it on their labels. Especially that it decreases the effectiveness of flame retardant fabric.
I have really bad allergies and a few skin conditions so my family stopped using fabric softener awhile ago so seeing this makes me glad we don't for another reason
Been using for as long as I lived, never had a problem with it Okay now,👇 down there, didn't know this would cause a dumb argument. It's a "you" problem if you have it the hard way. Yes, sucks to be you. Have a nice day 🙃.
smart man what a good person wanting to help people because you could have let people keep breaking their washers, thus helping you make more money. God bless you
I read yrs ago some in a article that you could chose any hair conditioner that you liked, and diluted some I think use as fabric softener, that says it all.
Ah, well over here, we use fabric softeners but it's heavily diluted in water as said on the instructions. I love the smell and it does make out clothes and sheets soft.
Thanks for the advice, I stopped using fabric softener and now all I use is scentsy candles. I absolutely love it!!! I can now make my clothes smell like my favorite holidays, or even the beach!!!!
@@cjw648 About half a cup for each load of laundry, just pour it on top once you've put everything in. Same thing when drying, but I'll only use 1/4th cup maybe.
Since I don’t use that much fabric softener with each load, never had a problem. All that buildup is caused by people using only cold water which isn’t good for your clothes or the machine itself, along with not adding water to the fabric softener and filling it up to the max line.
Thank you. It's bad enough when people use that crap in their own washing machines, but it's intolerable when they do so in shared units. Because of scented detergents and fabric softener, I run washing machines three times before I can even put in my clothes.
