In this tutorial, Don Bluth draws a scene from the classic video game, Space Ace. In this animation tutorial, Bluth describes the thinking process of the character design of Kimberly and the Video Guard.
Amazing, masterful strokes. An instant masterpiece....... with a #2 pencil. I'm so thankful he left Disney all those years ago and went off in his own direction.
Mr. Don Bluth, I Am Really Amazed that You Did Natural on Drawing Kimberly defeating the Video Guard for Art's Sake and I Am Your #1 Fan and So Is my Online Partner, Andrew Steiner!
Wow! Don, I am a HUGE fan of yours. I've been studying arts, and this year am going into animation at Sheridan. Your masterpieces have influenced me so much. You are so talented!=)
I'm amazed at how sparse his sketch is. It's rather unusual. Most animation masters like Don make a very open and rather busy sketch, then reduce to outlines then fine tune the details. Don seems to know exactly what he wants. See Hayao Miyazaki for a different but equally beautiful approach. I really hope hand drawing comes back to reign in animation. It is so vastly better in every respect.
Don is one of the greatest artists of all time if we had him or more artists simliar to his style we would have more better cartoons. Don you are very talented you make it look so easy :) you rock!
wow don bluth you drawings is amazing i watch all the videos of yours you made like an american tail, all dogs go too heaven,a troll and the central park, everything i watch your awsome 5/5 stars for you XD
Don Bulth, you're such a great artist. By the way, have you ever heard of an internet star named the Nostalgia Critic? He's a big fan of your movies. Infact, he accually put your movie The Secret of Nimh at number 1 his top 11 underated nostalgia classics.
Does he really draw this slow, or is he doing it just for the benefit of the video? For hand drawn animation, you really have to crank it out if you want to make any progress at all.
Don needs to make ONE LAST AMAZING movie before he...goes, you know Hes a pretty old guy...and his last few movies sucked. I enjoyed Thumbelina and i believe Anastasia was THE best movie he ever made. He needs to make something that would be as good as Anastasia or almost as good that would make theatres and have well-known actors for voices. I LOVE him!!
