Where in scripture is this point emphasized - especially in the Gospel of Jesus Christ? God does not need us - but He deeply loves us beyond all comprehension - and His heart longs for the salvation of all! Never ever divorce His wrath or His sovereignty from the irreducible fact that God IS Love! NOT “God is Love, BUT”!
Dear Wayne, I'm guessing you didn't listen to the sermon? If you did, then interact with Carson's points, raise questions, objections, etc. with Scripture. So that we can have an actual discussion
The recipient is the Son, Father or Spirit from the Son, Father or Spirit. Our Triune God is the only one who can be love and not be in need of any person outside himself to love. This is what makes Allah inept when Muslims say Allah is love and also self-sufficient/sustaining in himself. If Allah were love, he would be in need of something to love -- not self sustaining.
I reject all God's, but I will agree with you in saying love needs a receiver. I've been trying to show the love my depression caused me to hide. Pushed her away, kept quiet mostly, and didn't do important things. I love her, but she doesn't love me, and my love is bouncing off of her, back to me and being transfered to self-hatred, depression, and schizophrenic episodes. No, don't pray. My grandmother is a devout Christian and prays for me everyday, and I'm still fucked up.
It's a kukui nut lei. He's in Hawaii and it's a popular item given to tourists along with flower leis. But I'm assuming it's a gift from the conference. I remember D. A. Carson bringing up some of these points in some of his other sermons. His Fighting Temptation series if I remember correctly.
