I'm not Italian at all, but I've read the book at least 10 times (not including when I flip through a few chapters for fun) and have seen the movie more times than I can count. But, after 30 years, I just realized that Fanucci says "boca" here for "beak," whereas I know from the book that the Sicilian word for "beak" is "pizzu." Details, Francis, the Devil's in the details! (Slackness like that is why Part III sucked!)
Vito may not have killed him if he thought Fanuci was an actual made man instead of a poser. Fanuci had a reputation as being a made guy under the top Mafia boss at the time, Guiseppe or Marazano (don't remember which). One day Fanuci survived a knife assault brought on by a few hoodlums. When all the kids didn't end up dead as a result, Vito came to the conclusion that Fanuci wasn't actually backed up by the Mafia. By killing Fanuci, Vito became a man of respect in his neighborhood. Years later Vito would also go to war with the Mafia boss himself.

The manner in which he uses it, he meant countryman but in the context we use brother or buddy. Many things get lost in translation, especially context. Me knowing multiple languages, I realized the persons they get to translate only want you to get the gist and find certain verbiage solely for the native tongue speakers, feeling no need to translate it all.

I see this clip and I WANT it to be a good clip but it’s like halfway through most of the context. If he could include a longer clip then how about show this exchange and then cut to him appearing from the shadows with his towel wrapped piece lmao It’s cool to see anything thing from the Godfather’s but it’s still not enough unfortunately personally.
