Beautiful flames from Big Daddys late model 392 Hemi running on 92% nitromethane. Nitro or Nothing-go fast or go home ! Please watch in HD & turn up the sound .
Larry, Gotta build some heat in the engine before kicking in the nitro. Nitro doesn't like a cold start. Keep working on stuff, thanks for watching!!!!!!!!
It's not so much that as the supercharger can become a very dangerous projectile if it's started immediately on nitro and not alcohol and has a backfire through the intake. We use supercharger straps and diapers on them nowadays so if it does have a backfire and lifts the supercharger off the intake, it doesn't get bystanders hurt or killed. We lost people during the 1960s and 1970s before they started putting them on.

In a Cackle Dragster, is there two separate onboard fuel tanks, one for methanol, the other for Nitromethane with a valve to switch between the two tanks? Does anyone know what the nitromethane percentage is in a cackle car? Does anyone know how many start ups can a car like this make before some basic internal rebuild? Big Daddy always puts on the best show.
Big Daddy fills the small tank on the back of the blower with gasoline. He warms up the engine with gasoline then eases the nitro valve to full flow about the time the gas runs out. 92% nitro with methanol in the Swamp Rat tank. I've seen others run as high as 98%- 100%. Nitro doesn't mix with gas, that's where the methanol comes in. Gas lights easier that methanol and is usually cheaper, that's why Don uses it on warm up. Nitro is hard to fire when cold, that's why a warm up is needed. Most cackle engines are using hydraulic roller cams & don't need freshening very often. Set it up a little on the rich side and that helps keep it cool. Thanks for watching!!
@@bgivco thank you for the reply. Lots of great information. I have always thought having a cackle fuel car for car shows would be fun. I did once briefly get to talk to Mr Garlits about his engine set up. It was real noisy at the time and I missed a lot of his information. I did catch that there are special cams available for cackle engines with more lobe overlap to help create more intense and lengthy header flames. I would guess also dialing in the fuel delivery and timing would be specific also.
Could you get a Flathead Ford with Ardun heads to run like this I wonder? With those heads installed, the engine effectively becomes an OHV hemi, so in theory it should work. With only 3 main bearings I'd be worried about the crank snapping at some point, though.
Dustin, making one run on fuel isn't too difficult, seems like it'd be tuff getting the bottom end to hold up. Thanks for watching, keep working on stuff!!
