Great interview. Learned so much of the deep social and cultural history of the postwar jazz scene when America was vibrating with youthful possibility. Thank you, gentlemen for being among the builders of the pyramids.

You know, I have listened to this interview maybe 5 times, and each time I realize a new depth to it. Sometimes it’s best to go back with guys like this and listen a few times These are such genuinely nice guys, with no issues, completely dedicated to their music. And their intelligence is baffling considering how unassuming they are. But as musicians, they could play or arrange under any circumstances. -Absolutely top, top level! And there is a chemistry of them together that is beautiful. Thanks, Monk, for one of the most profound conversations I can imagine concerning jazz.

Terrific interview. Sam Noto I had the honour of playing in a danceband with Sam... Great jazz player and personality. Also Don Menza I remember when stationed with the RCAF in Europe I played with a Quintet during Fasching in Saarbrucken, Germany and heard Don Menza with the Max Gregor Orchestra...great swinging band..I have their album, Maximus. Two great jazz muscians.

No mention of the great drummer Mel Lewis - I found that odd - fellow Buffalo, N.Y., native of the same generation and easily as influential and masterful as these guys - I assume they knew each other …

Great conversation by two giants. Menza dominates by force of his personality, but Sam is at least as interesting.
