I knew nothing about the Nickel City Opera, and didn't have high expectations, but as it turns out this is a highly entertaining production. Imho James Wright's performance as Dr. Malatesta is the best I have seen in that role; the voice is very good but the acting is top drawer. Also Ruminski as Don Pasquale is a riot. Ms. Hernandez as Norina has fine comic moments, is easy on the eyes, has a gorgeous voice, and is believable as Ernesto's love interest. Mr. Brecher as Ernesto is splendid, if not quite possessed of the same intensity as Juan Diego Florez (who has pretty much spoiled me for all tenors except perhaps Placido Domingo). Kudos also to the creative author of the English subtitles.
