A wise man taught me a long time ago. "sit down, keep your eyes open , and shut the "F" up. Your suggestions are universal to any organization. Good video.
There's an old naval saying, "When assuming the watch, don't change the settings of the sails until you wait 30 minutes." That allows the new person to understand why the sails were set in their current configuration.
I've been all over youtube doing my best to absorb wisdom from all of these bikers teaching motorcycle culture and I've gotta say, this channel and this video in particular has given the most relevant and authentic info I've found so far. I'm so glad I found this page
Thanks. I'm not a biker, haven't rode for years but I grew up with and around the culture. Your messages are relevant to life in general and especially to those of us who are still around. The majority of folks I run with are a weird mixture of bikers, rockers and people who don't fit the norm. This video especially fits. Again thanks.
Thank you for educating us. I’m a deaf guy , i can talk but ive used sign language all my life. If one of the guys knows sign language I’m thrilled. Love it when they make fun of the deaf guy stuff because they are hilarious. It don’t bother me none . They are not trying to hurt me doing it.
Way back in 1977 when I was 15, one of my buddies who was older than me, was dealing drugs to a really hard core chapter of a national, well known, 1% MC. Me and some other friends went with him to one of their parties by invitation from the chapter president. Nobody had to tell us what RESPECT meant; i.e. we parked as far away as we could from all of those beautiful knuckles, shovels and pans. When we got out EVERY last club member was glaring at us (party was outside) until Daddy Rat (chapter Pres) came over and bear hugged my buddy. Then they went back to partying and ignored us. When I say this chapter was hard core, I'm not kidding. They owned the crank trade in that region (i.e. meth) and probably had a meth lab set up. They were also running guns as well and were into all kinds of criminal enterprises involving theft, extortion etc. So we didn't talk to anyone nor lock eyes with anyone. We hung out for an hour while my buddy did a deal with the president and then we booked it. My buddy then starting trying to recruit me to provide entertainment for them with my 100Watt amplifier (I'm a guitar player). I loved and still love any and all things Harley Davidson (I own a Fat Boy) and never disrespected them. I understand the comradery even though I never joined a club. But those guys were way too dangerous for me. At 15 or 16 I would have more or less been their in house rocking guitar player "mascot" but I told him NO WAY, despite my buddy calling me a pussy. As far as I know, most of those guys in that chapter eventually ended up dead or in prison. And my buddy? He ended up doing time for a pound of weed and almost died multiple times from shooting cocaine. It took him TWENTY YEARS to get clean. I left that lifestyle at 18 and I'm happy to be alive and well and still riding as a lone wolf - God is good. And yes, I show respect to MC's by not wearing patches a lone wolf has no business wearing (I prefer not to wear any patches).
@@paulcarmi8130 Northern Virginia. The president of the ENTIRE club I met died in a shoot around 3 years later. He's a LEGEND in that club. I don't mention his name nor the club out of respect. Most current members wouldn't care if I did, but there's always a few bad apples in a barrel who would make a bid deal out of it.
Really digging your vids , never really been a cruiser or dresser fan however was fascinated bye your vid about how to conduct yourself amongst other clubs , patches , etiquette, an being cool with peoples in general, now Im kinda hooked and fully appreciate your time as well as you consuming mine , stay awesome an be safe out there
My personal preference would be: Lose the coffin tank in favor of a peanut or Sportster style plus install spoke wheels and narrow springer. Then paint it white and call it Poison Ivory.
Very nice of Rhino of hooking ya up with everything that you needed and things that you didn't think about as well! Very cool and no you are not a sell out....you do business with them and they are nice enough to talk about them and promote them. Word of mouth is the best to help any business.
Another great video. I am a member of a Veteran organization and everything thing you mentioned I thought back to the person that acted that way during our open meetings. Also I can’t stand the one uppers. They alway have a story to top everyone in the group just shut your trap and listen. Keep the videos coming. Thanks, Guy
I just came across your page. I have been riding over 20 years. I was in an RC. I had to stop riding for a while due to medical reasons. I have been aloud to ride again. I got a group of guys I ride with ( Not a club) But long story short I have learned the etiquette when it comes to the 1% clubs. I was out with my girl one day and I was wearing my support shit ( I will not name) And a guy came up to me and introduced himself to me. We had a conversation and then he asked me if I knew a certain member of that club of the shirt I had on. I said, "No I have never met him" ( I have rode with him and I have even been to his house really great guy. But I will not tell anyone if I know someone from a 1% club. When we said our goodbye my girl asked me, " Why did you tell him you don't know that guy when you have rode with him and go to his house?" I explained to her that in this world you NEVER name drop it is a great way to get your ass kicked. LESS SAID IS BEST SAID. I think you should do a video of name dropping because some people I don't think know much about that. Especially when it comes to a 1% club. I am so glad I found this page great refresher for me. I know a lot about what you are talking about but it helps to be reminded after not being out there for a few years. Thank you
I tried to inquire about acquiring one of those trailers, but the rep told me, once they age out they get scraped. That way, there can't be any question if it's u haul or not. Big bummer but o well.
@@ProfessionalMonkey Q and A I wear my brothers old cut now. He was a Marine, and died in action. He had a top and bottom rocker. Top was his nickname redneck with skull patch and bottom rocker USA. His ribbons proudly displayed on my chest. When asked I tell them it was his and the story. NO i have NEVER and would never try that Stolen Valor bullshit. So what are your thoughts on the bottom rocker
@@ProfessionalMonkey Hey mate... what was the answer to your question "what do you do if a 1%er sends a drink to your girl?" I watched all they way through but I think you maybe forgot... or I somehow missed it... I need to know as I'm in suspense lol...
@@freak1sees714 Maybe he has given us the answer. He did not say anything more about it, and at the end of the video, he disappeared. My guess would be, don't do anything. Just leave. Or ask the bartender to take it off his tab, put it on yours, pay, then leave with your girl. Or, alternately, you could walk over to him with the drink, smash it on his head and cut his throat with the glass. Every situation is different.
You talked about your "Old man" riding a trike reminded me of a trip my Dad took. When he was 70 and was soon to get married for the third time. He decided he was going to start at Key West and ride around the outside edge of the continental United States. He ended up going by himself and he took a whole month to do. He said he would ride until he felt like stopping then rest until he was ready to go. It was the Best Ride of his life.
In my local area - well I do not participate. I am not anything, just a gent that will have a beverage with someone, on a single basis. So my interactions are in my view more real of the flavor of the group. I have chatted both MC and MO organizations. While I would support the same MO you are part of - well - I can support IT - without being a member. That is my path. As I say - Cheers to you! You would find me - in the corner - with my back to a wall. I once was admonished by my grandfather about - "looking the Fool, and then opening my mouth and removing all doubt". I sit silent, until a question is asked of me. I like your laughs! I try to inject humor too! PS - wait till the beard turns grey - and the "package" does too. Don't fret - it still shoots! lol
Went to Rhino’s website. Going to order some straps. Added a few things to my cart and started the process. Got side tracked and decided to come back to it. A few minutes later I get a trash talking email from them. (Awesome!) Now I’ve gotta buy the stuff.
Great advice, could be universally applied across the board in every org, bike related or not. You would think that folks would understand these basics and not have to be told; but there’s always intrusive folks that feel the “need” to act this way. Basic human decency, courtesy, and respect goes a long way in life.
Great advice. This should be common sense, but many people do these things with the best of intentions in mind. I am actually in the process of getting vetted for said organization, so this is a nice reminder to not get over zealous. However, I am also in another MC as well as a firefighter and in both worlds this can be applied. Thanks for the great content Monkey
@@SnookFamilyStudios And how would he know? - Its just someone in a cage (everyone owns a cage, unless you live near the equator) driving around the cul-de-sac. For all he knows its someone from out of town that belongs to another club... Presumptions like that is a good way to start something you can't finish. Just Sayin'
@@misters2837 I think you missed the joke. His channel is geared towards those that are in the motorcycle community. Yes we all have cages, but for those of us that ride we get it. He was making a joke that people from the motorcycle community as well as to get a laugh out of anyone that realizes that there is no such thing as a normal person. Normal is just a setting on my washing machine. I think you took it too seriously. This guy helps kids on a regular and I have never heard him be overtly crude to anyone. However I will say that I have also never met him in person and video can be edited. That being said I know the organization he is a part of and they have a great reputation for what they do in the communities that they preside.
@@SnookFamilyStudios It didn't seem like a joke... But... I can understand the "General Public" are far more "dumb" than one would hope... Sometimes its comical! - I ride quite a bit, I belong to a M.C.O. (I live in THEMADONES territory - BUT belong to a different Organization - We coexist well, thankfully.) when I am not out on the road, I work where parts are sold for all types of Rides (ATV/UTV/MC/Snowmobile) - I will say...Normal People Scare Me!
Great advice,Every club/ organization will agree when a new fish appears in an Ocean full of sharks, gotta be Koo when being around big dogs, might get that ass chewed. That lifestyle is not for everyone, Some riders, have eBay bikes, and weekend warriors, only ride when it’s sunny and clear. Not saying ride in a storm, oh my it’s drizzling well so much for riding, that type of shit,Enjoy your channel keep growing, that rhino stuff looks good, there’s a reason why you are blessed. Work hard, play hard, love, loyalty, and respect. God sees that! Be blessed be careful, cuida la Familia!
Great advice. I was invited to hang around a organization a couple of years ago. While I really enjoyed riding with them and hanging out at the clubhouse and whatnot it just never felt "right". The last get together I was at was a big event where they invited me to bring my wife and get to meet other guys from out of state, etc. One of the head guys had a candid conversation with me and said "we ain't looking for new guys so if this isn't for you don't waste everyone's time". He wasn't a dick about it, just being blunt and honest. I decided that night that I wasn't gonna hang around anymore.
We kind of say the same thing. We don't want to invest time in someone that's not all in. We also don't mean it to be rude, just don't want to waste time...
Man as a new sub, i gotta say i love the channel! But i dont get the orgs and clubs. Local abate chapter got me to come to a meeting a while back. I quickly decided i had found the ONE way to make the chaos of riding a motorcycle not fun... and that was to make it organized. Maybe i just was around the wrong group but it felt like work. Riding my road king? Shit, nothin work about that bro! Keep it free, keep it fun. Keep the content comin man.
wow Rhino filled you up...lol sorry i had too. i found your channel last night and been watching a lot of your past vids. i like your sense of humor 👍. im from southeast MO . the bike looks good . i think i would rather it had a sprung seat for comfort with it being a hardtail. not sure what to call it but the cut out areas on the front wheel hub looks odd to me like something should be there. i like the coffin tank . the color is ok to me but if i wanted to repaint it i would go with a blue metal flake maybe with gold flake stripes or accents. with all the black bikes nowdays i prefer chrome. these are things that i prefer . what you decide will be fun to see as you build it. good vid
I liken getting to know an organization to deer hunting. You don't rush into the woods making all kinds of noise and draw attention to yourself. You enter quietly, find a nice spot to sit and you patiently wait and observe. It may take 5, 6, or 10 times, but someone will notice you and approach you and they'll want to know who you are and what you're about. Be patient and be consistent. Let them notice you on their terms. And for the love of Pete, don't name drop.
Blitz Black rocks. Some of the toughest/ cheapest paint out there. I did my whole track car in it after I redid the body and it came out excellent. It comes in gallons, rattle cans, etc. Deere has its own primer that you can buy with it directly from the stealership, and it's super cheap. As long as your prep work is on point it's pretty much a no-brainer. Blitz Black is the cheapest way to get the 'hot rod' satin black finish, and since it comes in rattle cans its easy to touch up if needed. I see you're rocking the wink Rallye mirror too. Small world, I used one on the above mentioned track car as well. No blind spots is nice. Enjoy your channel, keep it up bro👍💪
Long story, made short. I live in a semi rural area of S Louisiana. Years ago, I had a date on a Sat. night and got lost on some hwy in the middle of nowhere. I come across a biker club and have no choice but to ask for directions and if I can use the phone. SO, here's this young guy, nice button down shirt, clean shaven, hair was kinda long .. you get the point. I walk up to the giant at the front door and explain that I know this is a "private" club and I don't belong there, but I'm lost and MAY I have permission to ask for directions or place a phone call. The dude looks me up and down, nods and walks inside. I stay put (I haven't been invited in). An older man appears and asks me where I was going. After several minutes, and conferring with a few other members, they realize that I simply took a wrong turn at point A. They aim me in the right direction and then suggest I call my date an explain why I'm late. I make the call, thank them and leave. Moral of the story is this; I KNEW I didn't belong there, but circumstances required me to stop. I followed the simple rules of showing respect, knowing I didn't belong there, and asking permission to do everything so basically not get my ass kicked.
Subscribed immediately. This is not a criticism, It's so refreshing to watch a video that isn't scripted, cut, edited and "too" perfect. I want to see a guy teaching me the things I don't know about a world I'm unfamiliar with.
The first thought through my head when the chopper photo first popped up was...Jeezus! Get rid of that God awful hypercharger!! Then......you said it yourself. Great minds think alike.
i kinda dig them. reminds me of them old timey fuel injection on a funny car. I like the S&S teardrop air cleaner too. But i gotta admit. i likes the hypercharger. is there something wrong with me?
@@drewbiedoobie1416 You do you Boo Boo. My reasons are mine and they're simple; 1) Wind tunnel tests show that the majority of air is NOT taken in through the front of an air cleaner. Most air is taken in through the back and sides. So those little butterflies do nothing. 2) Moving parts = greater opportunity for failure. If you don't have to have moving parts, why have them. 3) It's a signal to all other riders (most of them) who these things that you don't. It's a dead giveaway that you're into "cool looks" above performance. Nobody's gonna take you serious.
Coffin tanks were popular because they are made from easy to cut flat sheet metal peaces. You would cut cardboard mock up peaces and tape them together until you got the size and shape you wanted. Then you would cut your steel peaces out and braze the peaces together. Back when people started building Chopper's there were no shop's that sold custom parts like there are today. You did everything in your garage or backyard shop.
I’m with Dixie ABATE of Alabama and we will have a new member every few years come in. Then after a few meetings start wanting to make changes to the Bylaws. At this point is when I hurt their feelings.
I went to a couple meetings of this "organization" you speak of,about 2 yrs ago. Top off and Witchn are really good family friends of ours. They're the ones who sent the open invite to check them out. As matter of fact, I've done a bit of plumbing in top offs house. I decided to go a different direction but am highly reconsidering and going back. Did background and all and that's when I stopped going.
I am a new viewer and watched a couple of recent videos. I live in South Florida. I am sportbike and supermoto guy but I have owned a rare Harley XR1200 for around 5 years. I go to HD bike nights and sportbike bike nights. My friend runs the local Harley bike night so I have been sitting at his table for years. The dominant club show up at some of the events. I sometimes bullshit with the guys about motorcycles or general chitchat just to be friendly. I know they tend to hang by themselves but I go off to make a phone call or have a smoke. After watching watching your video you it makes me feel like I should bow down. Hahahahaha. I still wear my jeans, Joe Rocket summer jacket, Bell fullface helmet and Alpinestar supermoto boots. Plus I am 57. No tatts and clean cut. Not very threatening. I subscribed and enjoy your channel.
This is SO valuable and without videos like this we may be left to just mess up and figure it out by ourselves. Yet you present it in a friendly, approachable way for beginnings, and you're super entertaining to boot. Your channel rules Monkey, thank you! This is gold.
I’d hang that coffin ⚰️ tank on the wall in your garage as an art piece. Not MY style per se.. but I think it’d be really cool hung up or made into a end table or something “different & cool”. Maybe get something from Lowbrow Customs?
One thing a "ol skool cat" once taught me when I was coming n to the MC world "God gave u 2 ears n 1 mouth for a reason; Listen twice as much as u talk."
I just found your channel a few weeks ago. You provide some valuable info..I also hail from south Florida..I ride alone mostly but one thing I've learned about life "RESPECT IS EVERYTHING"..Cheers .keep em comin
Ive watched this vid in my feed probably 4-5 times in the last year or so, Man... I met that "over promise dude" at a recent meeting. Almost comical that you hit that nail so well... sure enough he wasn't able to accomplish half what he raised his hand for and now he's having to mend bridges. He's got a long road to go but hopefully his enthusiasm and a little "Old Dude" guidance will help him. Seems funny to me that I'm considered and old dude, but whatever... Stay safe, keep slinging the truth... ML&R
Hey mate - just stumbled across your channel and I have had a good laugh for the last couple of hours......loving your sense of humour. Looking forward to the chopper build.....
You're going to love that inflator. I've got one and it really saves time and energy. It's a tire filler and a gauge all in one. And you'll love the clip-on, quick connect, disconnect nozzle.
Just found & subscribed to the channel. It’s all about common sense, courtesy on the road, and being a better rider. Glad I ran across this channel. I’m older than most of the classic bikes out there. In fact, I was kicked off the Ark. On that black paint job, I have a thought. Don’t laugh right away, because I saw this done on an old British machine, and it was done by a super skilled hand. The talent some folks have never ceases to amaze me. It had iridescent pearl pin-striping of about 3 or 4 different widths throughout, and it was over satin black. The machine was one of the classiest I’ve ever seen. Coffin tanks have a long standing tradition of out of the box shyt.
29 years as Disaster Service Volunteer and We too had to limit and space out commitments to prevent all You Said, but managed to Make a Difference that Mattered
Those are excellent words of advice. I didn’t real all of the comments, but I’d like to put this out there. A while back, in an organization I used to be a part of, we had a guy show up projecting an “I’m the baddest futhermucker in here” attitude. Most of us saw through his shenanigans and called him out on it. I guess he watched way too much Sons of Anarchy. It’s entertaining but it’s a TV show. I’d add the suggestion of don’t try to act like you’re the biggest badass there. (That might be part of not being “flashy” but some folks need it broken down “Barney Style.”)
I am a new subscriber and love the content that you are discussing. I am new to a club here in Indiana and without seeing this video, have followed your ethics per "you". I am really looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos and the messages they contain. I have been asked whom I ride with and before this club I rode independent. Now, to clarify, I would say "I ride independent since I have not been invited to a club". With that, I bare no patches or anything. In roughly 3 months I will be a "member" as my probation status will be over. Looking forward to more educational content. Thanks Again.
A member in 90 days? That's quick. Not talking shit, that's just fast. Our people go through a minimum of 15 months before they are eligible for patching, and that doesnt mean they're getting it at that point.
I'm the assistant director of our local HOG chapter. We have a director, assistant director, etc. As such, for us, its a little different. We are fortunate that, out of our 117 members, we have about 85% of them that ride regularly (which is apparently not the standard). We also put on an average of 10k miles a year for our active riders. Given that our riding season is about 7-8 months long, thats pretty decent. We try to get people involved in our activities as much as we can-we generally have a core group of about 30 that support the rest of the chapter. But, for us, its like family. Case in point: I had to drop my bike off at our local dealer for a tire yesterday. My buddy was supposed to drop his wife's off for handlebars. Well, he texted another member, who was my ride, saying he was called in to work. So, me and Bob (my ride), took it upon ourselves to go to his house, grab his wife's bike, the parts, and ride it to the shop for him. That is typical for our chapter members. Its like a big family. I rode with another group (not HOG) for 2 years-and ALWAYS felt like an outsider. I started with the chapter in 2015, observed for a couple years, started getting involved in things, became close with the then assistant director-and, when he passed away, with the blessing of his ex, I put in my nomination for AD. Now, it runs my damned life, lol. Every day, something to plan, someone to speak to, etc. But, its good. We have organized several charity rides, we are the escort this year for The Wall that Heals (the Vietnam memorial wall), I have organized several group rides, instituted several ride challenges-even found another chapter member in OR who does website design, and got in on that, to update our site. Its busy work-for no pay. But, they are family. In fact, one is retiring down to FL as of next week.
Good on you. Our HOG chapter here in Fort Lauderdale is great if that's where he is going. I am not a member, but they support our org regularly at rides, etc. They put on a lot of miles, I think they won the competition the last few years?
@@ProfessionalMonkey Yeah, they put a shit ton of miles on, for sure. We do respectably for a smaller chapter-but our riding season is only 7 months if we are lucky :)
Again i wish i could share pics on this format like facebook, think you might like to see a chopper i built in the 90's was my tribute to Billy's Bike, and it too was a Sporty motor but i used a genuine 1200 out of an 89 1200XLH and i too used the Buell heads
all good advice. Damn thats a lot of work. another reason why clubs and groups are just not my scene. THat said its still good advice and information. I worked as a doorman in places frequented by various groups. and it is good to understand how things work. You get a lot further at least understanding and acknowledging other groups ways and means
i am definitely interested in looking into potentially joining your org way down the line. I think it's an amazing thing and really important people do that kind of work. You gotta be passionate enough to put in the work. Thank you for the video!
Had a guy, brought his '69 Sportster Chopper to the Reno Show every year. Dude was a serious rider out of Oakland. I asked him one time, how many miles? Dude laughed in my face. Original motor, never rebuilt...ran like perfect, no oil. Immaculate. Never gave the guy a trophy, but the last year we did the show, I gave him best of show. Last year....Street Vibes....best of show. The guy earned it...gave me a very special TY for the respect. That was a setup for this bike....If it were me I'd shift can the Hypercharger or turn it into an ashtray and give it to somebody I never liked that well.
As a general thing about volunteering: Only volunteer to things you really CAN do and you absolutely WILL do. Like volunteering to be the IT guy....when you can't even tell a mouse from a rat. Also if you don't follow through with your promises you won't be taken seriously ever again. Also mix generosity with common sense. Do be generous, but don't overdo it. Buy a round or two at the bar once in a while. Make it stand out. Else you can and will be taken advantage of. You may get treated as an ATM and you don't want that. in short, don't be flexing your stuff. or else some nice gentlemen might help you relieve you of your burden behind the bar.
This works not only for motorcycle organizations but for all groups Masons the elk Lodge, hell the boy scouts... That was great information keep up the videos...

@O O The government maintains a file with every male citizen's military service number. You can go to a website or phone call them. The number tells you if that person served, was drafted (if an old timer), or never served. Edit: Selective Service ID I believe it's called.
Will admit I’ve been that guy … and fortunately, a good friend took me aside to let me know I was showing my ass … I appreciated the clue in & corrected my attitude & behavior
