On the Hunt Palmer Show, we talk about WHY some defensive back recruits have decommitted from LSU and why LSU is losing out to other schools: NIL. What if LSU doesn't get DJ Pickett, the #1 Cornerback recruit, or a recommit from Jaboree Antoine? Corey Raymond is doing his best to recruit the best, but sometimes it's not enough. Money talks, and LSU stands firm on not paying their players.

@@smoothguy5643 Because other positions aren't asking for ludicrous money 😂. You think OL and DL LSU has is asking for a mill? You think Harlem Berry got a mill? You think any of the linebackers got a mill? I hate when you slow in the head people get on here and run your mouth about stuff you don't understand. A freaking former head coach was on radio telling you the co founder of Nike is giving bags of cash to Oregon to give to recruits, and you're blaming Corey Raymond? Oregon has ZERO history as a WR or DB factory, nit one coach on their team is known for that either, yet somehow they are in the position to land a 2 5 star WRs (already have both), two 5 star corners, and a 5 star safety. There is no way in hell that you are so dumb that you can't put 2 and 2 together. Raymond is going after kids that are top 5 and #1 at their position out of state. He has bent over backwards for Pickett. You obviously don't follow recruiting.

What most people don’t realize is the biggest problem with the players is their own friends and family. Sometimes it’s beneficial when mama not want to go too far away from home. Other times it’s horrible when his friends are and his family are looking at him as a money tree. What players go through is breathtaking. Do a show on that.

There's a limit to the money that can be spent, especially in this state. If the sole criteria a kid uses for his future is who the highest bidder is, you're probably dodging a bullet not having him in your locker room anyway.

NIL needs to be regulated. I suggest a base amt for each position for all players on all teams + additional bonuses based on preformance.

Great take on it Hunt. The boosters need to realize the LSU brand just isn't always enough anymore, neither is just the coaching staff abilities. The real players that focus on their game and don't think too highly of themselves will still come but they have to put up more money in the collective if we are gonna compete with schools who have guys with billionaire status, because frankly most of those schools, aside from Bama and maybe UGA, that's all they have to offer when it comes to competition level, development, championship level caliber contender programs and NFL draft stock they just don't have that argument to make.

Unfortunately they have a old documentary out on how Louisiana should be neck and neck with Texas economy wise. Same plants/refineries in each state Texas taxes them 20 plus million minimum a year while Louisiana is giving them tax cuts and collecting less than ten million a year. Pathetic!

BK literally came out and said “we don’t pay for players”. This was the single most detrimental statement to recruiting . Lots of de-commitments of top players who know their value, meanwhile other teams are paying so why aren’t we, especially top 100 talent.

Not offering enough 💰 can be a problem when attempting to get elite recruits. We can't get all of them, but it would be nice to get 1 or 2.

wellllll,.... NIL will be an uphill battle for LSU. Perhaps you can't get as many 5 stars based on the $$$ arms race. However, position coaches still need to be able to recruit four stars and develop them . Recruiting is still part of the job.

Another thing that is not talked about is how is Phil Knight allowed to spend all kind of money at Oregon but keep all his other customers happy. How are these other schools not cursing Nike out for this. Knight has given Oregon a blank check meanwhile top notch schools like LSU UGA Bama USC OSU who have been loyal to Nike for decades are getting pennies in compared to what Oregon is getting banked rolled.

TRUE TAT- but Louisiana does not have the oil money of Texas, The Aggies and OK- let's not fool ourselves - our economy has taken some real hits in recent years, Obviously, it will be difficult to recruit the skill positions- WR AND DB- NOW D- LINE IS LOOKING FOR $$$$. LSU has to hope for transfers similar to ole miss???

I don't blame Raymond. I blame LSU and Kelly for firing him in the first place. Hiring Steeples and who ever the other guy was, was a huge down grade from Raymond. Left our secondary room in shambles. It will take Raymond couple years to rebuild what was undone during his departure. For people to act as if he can turn this thing around in year one is crazy. He can do it is it like probably not.

Now that's perspective. Oregon over paid for LSU recruit 5 Star CB out of Long Beach Daylon Austin. The kid is buried on the roster. Oregon is closing in on 10 QB's on the roster. Kids desperate for millions in NIL know deep down they aren't NFL material & their ranking is not correct.
