@@pinchpeak5203 sure, but if your desk is attached on the wall (as mine is, being an hardwood desk built in the library) you cannot set it up with the clamp and you surely don't want to cut a hole in the desk
@@myriamscaramella9444 that's a very specific issue you would be able to fix by mounting a monitor on the wall, given the fact your desk isn't going anywhere. unless you dont want to drill into the wall too
@@myriamscaramella9444 Cutting hole to your desk isn't that bad option. New surface costs like 100€ if you need to buy new one at some point. Probably you will not remove that arm, so the hole is where it should be.
Yeah I was hoping for a product recommendation of a grommet mount that allows cable management THROUGH the base of the monitor mount. If you have to route the cables behind the desk then what's the point of grommet mounting a stand at all?
Most can be easly fixed. No vesa? Use a small piece of wood and drill the holes. Stabilitie? Crank up the clamp a bit more. Bad cablemanagement? Use zipties. Monitor to big? Use a diffrent arm or use more.
Or some legitimate problems. Sounds like they'd make a video where they'd say "one problem with owning a car is that you have to fill it up with gas/electricity." Like.....yeah.....That's how things work indeed 🤣
The longer I think about it the worse does it sound, sure behind the desk clearance allows for different arrangement but it should never be required unless the stand is badly designed? I wanted to achieve one position with mine and it was impossible without back space, but the solution was simple the same position was easily achieved rotating arms 180 degrees and shifting entire thing to left. Then it achives the same range of motion with arm moving towards you insdead of away from you.
The largest problem with monitor arms is the lack of arm length adjustability, combined with the fact that most monitor arms requires air space behind the back of the desk (where most people have a wall), means that it can be very difficult to actually put multiple monitors where you really want them. With these restrictions, I haven't found a set of arms that will allow my two monitors to be side by side in any but a single location (usually very close to the front of the desk. Since the arms hit the wall in any other configuration where the monitors would be side by side, I am stuck with this configuration. It's a major sticking point, as I 1) don't want them that close usually, and 2) it consumes so much of the desk space that the utility of the arms is largely negated. I have been using monitor arms since I got my very first LCD monitor, and they've almost all suffered from this problem, because all the manufacturers are simply copying each other and not innovating. All it would take is for some of the arm lengths to be adjustable, and this problem would be solved.
I was thinking of that problem, so for my two monitors I will buy two separate single arms instead of a dual monitor one. I will mount them on opposite sites of the table, the arms going parallel to the wall, the monitors meeting in the middle. It might not look very good though and I don't know if that will work at all, but I will try.
I would love to see a video that explains how cheap "amazon basics" or "monoprice" monitor arms compare (or not) to the big boys in the business (Chief, Humanscale, Workrite, ESI, etc). I can find individual reviews of each, but none really offer a comparison. Like...are you rating that cheap chinese restaurant 5 stars because the food is amazing, or because it's cheap and you get a lot? :)
It is not necessary for your monitor to have a vesa mount, I have my monitor mounted using a vesa adapter and it works great, although can get fiddly to install.
If u use the limnono one it wont hold up. I installed one on the side and it only lasted one day before it leaned and damaged the surfaced of my table. Maybe it will be a different story if u clamped it on actual wood table top.
My gas spring stand is 7 years old. And it: Dont have stability issues. Nothing has loosened even a bit. There is no single cable visible. I dont change desk every week so mounting metod is not an issue (beside fact mine support both camp and desk hole method).
There is also the problem with the cables. Cable management is an issue, but having the right length is the one I run into. Most people forget that the monitor arms add distance from the Box by about 0.5-0.7 meters, meaning you either need your power supply and Computer case super close, or you need a longer cable, for BOTH power and for the Monitor signal.
The hardest part is to buy monitor arm. They are lacking all important information like how much space they need behind the desk, how far back I can push my monitor, how close can i bring it, and so on.
im using 17 USD amazn basics arm with my 27" legion monitor, luckily haven't faced any of these issue. to tackle it, all you need is a proper management and basic common sense
That's what I'm about to comment. You can clearly see that there are built in wire management and they are not being utilized just for the sake of pointing out this flaw about monitor arms. If they used a monitor arm without wire management built in, fine I guess (though, they should point that not all monitor arms do not have cable management systems) but using one without using them is a bit bias. Either way, some of the points are indeed informative and easy to understand.
@@josephusaquila5439 yeah. I'm actually using that specific monitor arm in the video there at 5:15 and it looks and feels way better without the stands on the desk. I think they are worth it.

I once had the opposite problem on an office job-site. We were installing 73 new workstations, and someone checked the "HD" box for the monitor arms. Their monitors were only like 4.5 lbs, but the monitor arms were made to support 7lbs and up. All of the monitors were hels up 2ft above the desk surfaces, untill we could get ahold of 73 four pound steel plates to go between the arm and the monitor to make them heavier. Man, that sucked...customer was PISSED!
These problems are not problems, since they've removed dislike button, please do not believe in everything in this video. I've bought two of the cheapest gas arms I found and they work perfectly, even though one of my monitors is a 27 inch AOC, very heavy and very stable on the arm. Buy longer cables and spend a bit more on buying two arms instead of this dual-crap since that may be only relatable problem to the ones guy from the video had, two large panels may not fit well besides each other, two stands solves the problem though
I bought a single arm of this thing with the intention of hanging it from something... My computer desk comes with a sturdy shelf right over it... But the pressure system arm (only way I can think of to refer to it) was designed to hold it up... Not to hang from something....
It's really heave to lift a monitor up and then screw everything. It's easier to put your monitor on something soft facing down and then screw everything and ofcourse don't put any pressure.
Some arms come with a removable mounting block, so you can attach that to your monitor first, and then mount said block on the arm's receptacle. Obviously still varies per design, and from the ones I've looked at, it's not too common.
This is the reason youtube exist. Very comprehensive explanation that helps consumer to think twice when choosing the right product before actually getting one.

How high do you rise it? Its usually like an extra dm for the cables which you usually have since a monitor cable isnt exactly how far your pc is from it
Glass top (electric height adjustabel Costco desk) wondering if I should get a new desk or fiddle around with padding of some sort to s[read out the load to avoid glass breakage. I think the underframe will suffice although the frame is square tubing that most likely will missalign with a C-Clamp and therefor probably will also require (in this case) blocking. Without having arms to tryout it's a difficult guess. Anyone had this scenario?
@@brokeAK I thought it was too risky so decided to buy a (beautiful) strong sturdy desk by "Desky" Australia with a cable tray and a bamboo top. Took a bit of saving up but was worth the wait. I still have the Costco desk with a second computer, although I don't need it since the Desky would fit both.
1. VESA is not a problem but a standard most monitors follow or should follow. That's why it is called a standard. If the monitor doesn't support VESA, then don't buy it. This is monitor, not monitor arm issue.

Well the video made me decide not to cheap out on a monitor arm. Many look very similar but can very in price from $50-150 for what looks like the same thing, but I’ve also seen this in computers where it’ll have the same amount ram, the same cpu/gpu, but one will cheap out on everything else and one won’t and that’s where the price difference is. And it often matters.
BTODtv I need help on this problem on my monitor and mount. And the problem is their are diffrent monitor monuts plates with square and star. My next problem is my monitor the back of my monitor it has a diffrent shape for a square and star. So whats your opion on this to help me fix this?
Lol this is a monitor arm hater video lol. All the problems he addressed are only problems if you buy a monitor arm that does not support the weight of the monitor you bought. Just make sure your monitor arm supports at least 5-10 pounds more than what your monitor weighs and you'll be fine.
