I do believe you meant Galvanic Corrosion, with dissimilar metals in contact. It really is only an issue when an electrolyte is present. Ran into more times than I can count when I was a plumber. People use copper fittings directly onto a steel water inlet/outlet of a water heater all the time, instead of using a di-electeic union like they should.
Casey, you’re awesome thanks very much for all your cool videos. I am a mechanic from Ontario and I work for the Ontario Provincial Police and I think your wheel installation guide is fantastic. Keep up the good work.👍😉
I kinda feel like you should forgo the lift, keep those wheels/tires tucked at a ~22.5 degree angle off camber and then add some ground light effects with the taser jl light show and just restrict your off-roading to the mall... money saved for all that fuel your burning. lol, J/king. Those wheels/tires look amazing man! Awesome build!
Hey Casey, videos are great. As far as wheel protection for polished aluminum, or really any wheels, I would definitely recommend a ceramic coating from Shine Supply, they actually make a ceramic coating for suspension and wheels, and it's actually called "Beadlock". It's a kit for around $100 (US) and it will do about 4 complete sets (5) of wheels.
I've always seen the advice of zeroing out your torque wrench also but there's no way it has anything to do with spring fatigue. Springs fatigue with cycling not compression. This is why you can leave 30 round AR mags loaded for years and have no issues. Perhaps it's just good as it reminds you to exercise your torque wrench everytime you use it.
I also have a zr2 and ii is sad how little the aftermarket support there is for these trucks. I build bumpers, skid plates racks everything myself. You have one dompany making 4:56 gears and they are always on backorder.
I hate the algorithm too but I spend a ton of time putting videos together to provide information to you guys and if I don't play nice with how RU-vid works, they videos will get tucked away in a dark corner and not shown to everyone who might be interested. Its a tough game :(
Polished ring and the rest with body paint match powder coating with clear coat and before mounting the tires have them ceramic coated. Mud,dust and dirty road grime will be easily removed without excessive force.
What lift are you going with? I run Evo Enforcer stage 2 with King shocks. Supposed to be 3 inches but is actually 4.5 inches. Love the look of polished aluminum with the Grey nice choices 👌 👍.
Staytuned on the lift. The goal is 4.5 to 5in over factory, but there is a bit of lift that will come from the axles as well. I haven't run this lift but i've been working with this company for a quite a while if you want to take a guess ;)
Wish you talked prices cus this is out of all average persons budget, some forged beadlocks are $1000 per wheel. Gorgeous new wheel and tire package though Casey! 🤘🇨🇦
One thing to note in places where bead locks are not street legal a lot of tire shops won’t balance them. One way to get around this is to use BB’s or they also make specific tire balancing beads. Edit: great video though thank you for the content, wheels look great!
In the States you should be able to take them into any Discount Tire and they'll balance them for you - as a company they made the decision to go ahead and balance them but they won't mount them from what I've heard. Issue is I think they're all privately owned so there's going to be some that still won't do it. They'll definitely do it if they aren't on the truck though, but that's a pain most of the time.
There are "street legal" beadlocks out there. I would love to get a pair of Hutchinson Rock Monster beadlocks. For two reasons. There a true beadlock (inner and outer are sealed). And are DOT compliant in the states.
The Hutchinsons are great, I have a variant on my M1102 trailer which uses the HMMWV steel double beadlocks with a run flat insert. However keep in mind the Hutchinsons are HEAVY. Like a good bit heavier than even a standard beadlock wheel. Something to take into consideration.
It is my understanding, that AEV are Like the mopar beadlocks, they are only DOT approved under conventional mounting with the ring affixed as a rash ring. Both wheels can be mounted as a regular wheel or beadlock.
@@Casey250 aev website Please note: Although the Crestone wheel with the Beadlock Ring is DOT compliant, it is not necessarily permitted for street usage in every state in the United States. BEFORE purchasing, double-check state and local limitations on Beadlock installation and use. The law you have to look for is regarding 2 piece rims.
Must be nice. I ordered 5 Nitto Trail Grapplers that size in July of 2020. I am still waiting on my 5th tire. I don't believe I will ever buy Nitto again.
I haven't said yet. I believe we are going to try Metalcloaks 4.5in 392 springs up front, and 5.5in in the rear. I am looking for about 4.5in of lift. We may need to play around with springs on this build to get it right.
I ran 35 1250s on 8 inch rim or 10+ years on my TJ air down to 3 pounds in the winter for snow Wheeling never had a tire come off the bead. and my nickname was leadfoot.
There is a red dot on the side of the tire, line that up with the valve stem for better balance. Balance beads, I just had them installed 8 oz. Per tire on my 38.5 x11x15 boggers on cheap steel wheels weigh 92 lbs each. Still getting some steering wheel shake so I might add more beads. I didn't see you put beads in ?
Tire and wheel weight is calculated under "un-sprung weight". If you plan on the Jeep doing any crawling at all, you want more un-sprung vs. sprung weight. Sprung weight is the weight that is riding on the suspension and un-sprung is everything that isn't on the suspension, so wheels and axles. The heavier the wheels and axles, the less likely you are to tip over. Fuel economy is an afterthought since you opted for a V8, so you'll need to get real with yourself at some point about fuel economy.
Ive been running Hutchinson Rock Monsters ( powder coated red) with 37" KM3s on my 2018 JLUR for 4 years. I check the wheel nuts and lug nuts before ever trip and have never found one loose. The one big problem with this wheel combo is the weight of the wheels. At 153 lbs. , if i had to change out spare there is no way i could lift it back up on DOD tire carrier. Just have to wrap a chain around it and drag it behind jeep.Gentlemen...travel safely and be ever VIGILANT!...West Virginia Overlander in the USA... --(O|||||||O)--
Great video as always. Curious if you've swapped your axles for Dana 60/80 to handle the bigger/heavier wheels and tires? What about the brakes, steering stuff, etc.? I was at EJS, going to Colorado in Aug.
Guy, you're the one who got me interested in the Icon Rebound Pros, DOT approved beadlocks. I know from one of your older videos that beadlocks aren't street legal in Canada. Why aren't you running Icon Rebound Pros? There aren't enough reviews out there on them as it is, you should definitely hook up with Icon Vehicle Dynamics, maybe they'll give you a discount or possibly even some free wheels! ;)
Work at a Autobody shop and have a personal built one so it draws in a lot of jeep people who have been in accidents and want it fixed and or upgraded while it’s being repaired. Long story short the insurance company will only look into beadlocks if it was cause or accident like tire fell off and struck Someone because they lost control. Have not personally heard of that yet most time it’s just people who smash it up on trail and say a deer hit them lmfao guess the deer have some sharp ass teeth that look like rocks
Ive looked into clear powder cloat for other things in the past and from what others have seemed to experience is still getting oxidizing under the clear.
Don't buy bead locks if you plan to drive on public roads. They are not DOT approved in the states and I think Canada too.. Besides there are street legal alternatives from Icon and Method. If you have to have bead locks Hutchinson Rock Monster Bead locks are street legal. I'm running them on my JT now. Running bead locks got expensive for me so. I was told to trailer my jeep home(I didn't ). I tend to warn people of the legality if your going to daily your jeep.
Hey Casey, just a thought, you were trying to show us the inner edge of your tires on your spare… while it wasn’t easy seeing it the way you were trying to, you could’ve just opened your swing gate. 😂
Now, without even watching the hole video, you've got new axles coming, last I checked, 8 lug and 5 lug are not compatible, unless your going to use adapters which is laughable.
I do 2 full circles every other bolt with a light duty ugga dugga, then 2 more times hitting every bolt, then on to the torque wrench. everytime one gets tight the 2 next to it get loose
What you have to lookout for are road blocks with dot commercial inspectors. If you are stopped in one you are screwed. You will be heading for a full inspection.
Come on Casey the gnerls as you called them prevent your tire from spinning on the rim at low pressure causing imbalance. I thought you would know that?
